Haulin' shine? Heck you can walk around here while drinkin it! No need to haul it. These are the hills that put the hill in hillbilly. Believe it or not, it's only 45 minutes outside of NYC. You stand outside the bar and wait for a deer to get hit out on the road. Then you have a barbecue. Stone gaurd is a clear plastic sheet tape made out of 3M poly-sumthing. You spray water/alcohol on the paint and the back of the tape. Position it on the car and press it on. It's almost invisible and takes a beating. I got it in bulk rolls from http://www.xpel.com. Don't fall for the expensive pre-cut kits. Get the cheap bulk stuff and cut it up yourself. It takes some practice to get it on right but it's easier than doing tint because the stuff stretches. I had the car painted BMW Arctic Silver about 8 years ago. It was originally stock Z silver. The problem is that now I need a beater for the track because the body is so clean.

Thanks, yeah the car is clean and simple looking. It should look a bit more agressive with the black sportmax 8" wheels. The noise in the car is gravel. There are so many hills so they throw tons of gravel salt and sand on the roads in winter. We need a few good rainfalls to wash it all away. I have stonegaurd on the bottom sides of the car or all the paint would get destroyed.

Got the Z out of Winter storage and I did a walkaround video and a couple of driving videos. This weekend, the Panasports are coming off and the 16x8 Sportmax wheels are going on it. Then I will strip the stock EFI out of it and install the large injectors, fuel rail, triangulated strut bar, and MS-II. I also need to grease the rear swaybar and install the rear camber bushings. Walk around (the camera makes the fan, valves, and injectors sound really loud) http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8503356633210792365 Short drive. leaving my parents house: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7571635835208542681 Longer drive and some nice curves: Watch the thing hanging from the mirror for g-force indication. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=6790766533792011334

On the MS-II you cannot edit maps. Quoting the Megamanual: http://www.megamanual.com/v22manual/mtune.htm#mv MegaView has the following features: All runtime parameters are displayed in a scrolling fashion on the display. In Runtime Ticker-tape mode, the parameters displayed for MegaSquirt-I include: time since start [sECS] up to 65,535 seconds (216-1), over 18 hours, current engine operation state [ENGINE] (CRANK/RUN), warm-up [WRMENRICH] enrichment (ON/OFF), acceleration [ACCENRICH] enrichments (ON/OFF), engine speed [RPM], injector pulse width [PW(MS)]. intake manifold absolute pressure [MAP(KPA)], barometric pressure [bARO(KPA)], coolant temperature [CLT(F)], intake air temperature [MAT(F)], throttle position sensor voltage [TPS(V)], battery voltage [bAT(V)] Exhaust sensors voltage [EGO(V)] EGO correction [EGOCOR(%)], air density correction [AIRCOR(%)] barometric pressure correction [bARCOR(%)], current volumetric efficiency [VECOR(%)] warm-up correction [WRMCOR(%)] acceleration enrichment correction [ACCOR(MS)] all computed enrichments [GAMMA(%)], and For MegaSquirt-II, MegaView2 code lets you change: CRNK ENRCH_L, CRNK ENRCH_H, AFT WRM PCT_L, AFT WRM PCT_H, AFT WRM EVTS_L, AFT WRM EVTS_H, IACSTART, PRIME PLSE_L, PRIME PLSE_H, REQFUEL, DIVIDER, ALTERNATE, INJOPEN, BATTFAC, INJPWMT, INJPWMPD, INJPWDTY, ADV OFFSET, AMC Option. MV2 does not allow you to change the VE tables (because then we'd really want to also be able to tune the AFR and spark tables, and with 144 entries each, it would take almost forever to step through all the entries). It takes about 45 seconds for MegaView to scroll through all the variables. The automatic scroll mode can be frozen at any time in order to monitor any desired variable.

I adapted stock Z seat rails to the BMW seats by using aluminum blocks and four strips of 1/4" x 2.5" aluminum bar stock. Basically you make four "legs" out of the aluminum blocks and then use the bar stock to make "skiis" that fit under the blocks. Then you mount the stock Z rails to the skiis so they line up with the stock location in the floor. You can make the "legs" whatever height you need to get a comfortable seat height and angle. The blocks and skiis bolt to the seat holes in the bottom of the BMW seats. Then you drill holes to mount the Z rails onto the "skiis". Measure twice, cut once! The drawing is NOT even close to scale. It's just to give you the idea.

I would retire with that cash.

Hey are those the Sumitomo HTZ's that I posted about for $60 each at tirerack? How do you like them?
-
That car, if honest, has alot of nice components in it. It seems like a great car to drive while re-restoring. You might only need to paint some sections over if the rust is not too far. Even so, I would pay a bit over $5000 for it IF I saw it and it just needed minor rust work. It is soo hard to put a value on a Z without actually seeing and driving it but it sure looks tasty.

There is a sh!tload of information about this in the turbo section. This path is the one most travelled. I think there is even a breakdown of HP vs $$ vs Mods ranging from stock to outrageous L28ET setups.

I finally figured out where these seats came from. They are out of an early 80's BMW 320is and made by Recaro.

It's the part about moving all the crap out of the garage that freaks me out a bit, I suppose I could use a filler and do half the floor at a time. This way I could shuffle the stuff from one end of the garage to the other. The surface isn't too bad but I know there is some loose concrete under the old epoxy. You can hear it when you tap it with a hammer. I would need to chip out all the loose concrete abd then skim coat with a filler. Maybe I'll look into the roll out mat for now. Quick and easy. I could roll it out to hose it off.

I painted my garage floor about 8 years ago and it's starting to peel up and the concrete has a few small rough spots. I was thinking about using one of those modern epoxy floor coatings but I still wont have a perfectly smooth finish because of the pocked condition of some of the areas on the floor. I started thinking about doing one of those snap together checkered floor tile systems. Anyone have any experience with them. I am a bit concerned with winter snow melt, and other automotive fluids that might pool under the floor tiles if spilled. My garage is about 14x23. 1-1/2 car garage. It's really one car, detatched garage with alot of working space. Heat and A/C, if I need it. Should I use perforated tile to let liquids through or solid to keep liquids on top. There is no drain. Maybe just a large 10x20 roll mat would work? http://www.airomat.com/garagematwebpg.htm#tile http://cgi.ebay.com/Garage-Floor-Tile-Plastic-Modular-Flooring-Locking_W0QQitemZ160099339729QQcategoryZ20604QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Patents can be global. Alot of patents are not global. However, if it was patented in the US, even if it's made on Mars, it can't be marketed in the US (I am almost 100% sure on this). On the other side of the coin, most patents only last 17-20 years max. Once a patent is expired, it's design and marketing is free reign. Don't forget these cars have been around for 30+ years so alot of this stuff, if it was patented, may already be expired. When a patent is violated, especially by a "Taiwanese" company, it is often not even worth the money it would take to file a lawsuit...and that's the loophole. Anyhow. The original post really boils down to ethics. Ethics are slowly disapearing, along with, common sense, driving skills, and beepers...except for here at HybridZ where everyone still takes the high road. No beepers though. Right?

Juan, finally got my messages. Thanks. Someone from here told him I was trying to email him. My emails were going to his spam box. My rail is on the way. Helllllooooo Megasquirt installation! I have dealt with him before and had no trouble. I figured that maybe there was a communication breakdown...
-
Anyone know Juan? I paid him over a month ago for a fuel rail he was advertising on ebay. We corresponded because I needed a custom 14mm rail. He told me he was waiting for more orders to get a better price on bulk material. I said OK. That was a month ago. This week I inquired about my rail twice via email and he doesn't reply.

I always got lucky with Zbarn. If you get him on the phone the first time, settle all the business because it could be weeks before you get him again. The parts and service has been good for me. On the other hand I have heard he is VERY difficult to get a hold of. Once you do, you will get a good deal from him. He has nice stuff.

Awesome! I miss those days. Maybe I should move down there too. Nice weather. The engine sounds ferocious.

I need to practice video compression YUCK... but anyhow here is a video of the MS-II and Megaview on the bench. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=7184866050736929904

I agree, and disagree. It's all about the money. If the price they are willing to charge for the part is reasonable, I am all for it. If they are copying someone elses design and selling it for less, I don't think that is right. I personally think it's immoral. On the other hand, it breeds competition which is good for the consumer and product development. If there are patents involved, then it's illegal. When I ran my own business making custom motorcycle parts, I would ask forums for beta-testers for new products. The testers, in exchange for development information, got fame, and free parts. I always rotated beta-testers, I never used the same people twice. <> http://www.hvmp.com

I was an early member of the z-car-digest but I wanted more in-depth technical info about performance and upgrades other than what I could get from the FSM type of banter I found over there. I learned alot from z-car-digest and still read it, but it has it's limits. The digest is like an oval track, whereas, HybridZ is like Watkins glen I think I found HybridZ through the digest.

Ah the dreaded aluminum oxide...yuck. For cheap protection, I sprayed aluminum flake paint over all my cast aluminum parts. It looks great and holds up well. It's basically cheap brake paint.

I am all for personal freedoms too. Unfortunately, it's a catch 22. Enforcing safety results in a loss of common sense. The solution is education. REAL driver education....or fully computer controlled cars...which do you think will happen first? I am betting the latter. I have a coffee maker with a label on it that says: "If you get water overflow, fill below the full line." LOf'L.
