Looking real nice. You are at the exact same point I was two years ago. It has been real nice but now I am getting rid of the AFM for MS-II. You will not have overheating trouble. I have A/C, Oil Cooler, and IC up front with one 16" electric fan and have no cooling issues. Funny, I mounted my vacuum bottle in almost the exact same place as you did too. My coolant overflow bottle is right behind the airdam though.

Bee in the helmet, is something I have experienced. LOL. Not funny at the time. Fortunately, I was only racing/freestyling BMX bikes at the time. It's not about cell phones it's about <> "No Respect!" for the driving privledge.

Monday morning, I was driving to work on a road with one lane in either direction separated by a double yellow. It's a 50mph rural road. There was a car behind me that looked like an older Honda with a young male driver in it. He was keeping a good safe distance about 20-30 cars behind me. I was keeping my eye on him because 1)He was young 2)The car looked a little beat-up. After about 3 miles he got on his hand held cell phone. Within seconds, he was riding my back bumper and yapping away with a distant look on his face. I slowed down to about 40mph for his sake, to buy him some reaction time. The road is notorious for cars coming out of driveways and intersections by surprise. The change in his driving was completely and obviously changed by the cell phone conversation. Amazingly, on the way home Monday evening, I had a young girl tailgating me by about 12 feet through a 30mph residential area. She was on the phone also. I was driving about 40 when she caught me so I slowed down to about 30, again, to buy her reaction time in case I had to brake. These types of drivers won't learn until they get into an accident. Even then, they may not learn.

I have these in my Z. They are stiff and hold me in real tight. Probably cant use a harness though. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/BMW-320is-Recaro-Seat_W0QQitemZ130092720062QQcategoryZ33701QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I adapted the stock Z rails to fit these seats by making a couple of aluminum offset spacers.

At this point, you need a voltmeter, ohm meter, and a service manual. Start measuring the specs on all your sensors. Check, clean connectors, grounds, and check fuel pressure. Set base timing by the manual.

What I do is spray the solvent on the motor cold and let it soak for a while. Dont spray on the connectors and electrics too much. It's not really a big deal on the Z as long as you disconnect the connectors, dry them, and add some dielectric grease to keep the moisture out of them. To rinse it, I start the motor from dead cold and hose it off quickly while it's running. The trick is to rinse it all before it gets too hot. The reason I run it, is because if it stalls, I know I sprayed water in a bad place. Also, while running, the alternator just spits the water back out of itself. I have never had a problem doing it this way.

Anything MS-II, I am all ears! Mine is ready for an install. Congrats on the purchase.

Who say's we're not nuts?

I think the thread can remain civil and driving related rather than political. I know that driving attention required varies alot from region to region. I personally can multi-task, but I choose not to include non-driving tasks while driving. I don't have a need to use the cell phone while driving and my opinion reflects it. It's just scary. I am sure this has happened to everyone. You glance away from the road for a second and then you look up to see a stopped car, or your car is near the edge of the road, or there is a car in your lane coming at you. It happens. When it does, I want to be 100% ready. I am always looking for hidden trooper cars, I am anticipating other drivers, I am keeping mental locations of the surrounding traffic, driveways and intersections. I am looking for deer and other anomalies. I am also categorizing other surrounding drivers as threats or non-threats by their driving style. So far I have never so much as scratched a car in 20 years behind the wheel. Knock on wood. No, I don't drive like a granny, I drive aware.

Funny thing is that I am sooo far from being political or PC. I just can't stand incompetent driving.

After hearing what happened in Mike Kelly's family, my bitter feelings towards distracted driving have been re-kindled. I always tell my passengers that they can talk to me while I drive but I might not talk back, in fact, I might not even hear them. The reason is that, when I drive, 100% of my attention is going towards driving. I don't know how I learned the habit but I know it works. Talking on a cell phone while driving for me is totally out of the question. I am sure there are people that claim it can be done and that they are not distracted. I claim B.S. Sure, some may be better at distracted driving than others but you only find out how good you really aren't when it's too late. I always drive with polarized sunglasses during the day. Even if it's cloudy and bright, or even rainy, I usually use them. The polarized glasses seem to make puddles stand out from the asphalt better in the pouring rain. Anyhow, with polarized glasses, you can see very clearly, the faces of drivers through their windshields. I am amazed that during my AM commute, I see at least 10-15% of the drivers with phones held up to their heads. Mind you, I am driving in a state that bans hand held cell phone use while driving. Out of those 10-15% I usually catch 1-2% showing warning signs of dangerous driving. Tailgating, riding the double yellow, two wheels in the dirt, struggling with the wheel with one hand.....it is downright scary. One thing I notice in ALL of them is a distant look on their face. They are NOT in the moment. Even the drivers that use hands-free technology are not ALL there. Is there anything that can be done? We are a large group, and the internet contains an even larger, collective group of driving enthusiasts. What can be done? Let's at least try to do something about distracted driving. It's obviously a HUGE problem. A REAL driving education system needs to be implemented. Anyone who plays online driving games, knows what happens when your spouse or someone starts talking to you while you race. You either crash or you get passed. http://www.unews.utah.edu/p/?r=062206-1 http://www.consumeraffairs.com/news04/2006/04/cell_phones_distraction.html

Back when booming sound was important to me I had made two ported cabinets that filled the space behind the seats. They were angled to match the seat rake and the tops were flush with the rear deck. They housed 8" Nakamichi subs. Small by todays standards, but they were stealthy covered in black cloth.

Wait, aren't they like binoculars, when you turn them around they do the opposite. Like, a backwards muffler is an amplifier? LOL J/K. Go to the manufacturers website and try to find a cutaway of the muffler. You should be able to tell if it's directional or not.

The stock wire for my ZX fuel pump was shielded, so I replaced the wiring with a heavier shielded wire when I switched to the Walbro pump. That sheilding may have been due to the original pump being controlled by the Fuel Pump Control Module. Not sure why, but it was shielded. Thanks for the tip on the dist. signal wire being shielded. I will definitely take ALL precautions. X64v, I was thinking about this. Even though your pulswidths in your datalog seem correct, that only means that the MS is doing it's job and sending out the signal. It doesn't necessarily mean that the injectors are actually performing the duty that they are asked to do. I wonder if B&G are going to be integrating fuel pressure monitoring into future units. That would be really helpful in the datalogs. Although, the O2 sensor is already telling you, "fuel is missing".

You are getting closer. It sounds like you need to rewire some stuff. Make sure all your MS grounds and battery grounds are connected to the engine block with a large cable. In another post, I listed what I plan to do for my wiring. I am going to make a ground terminal block for ALL system grounds. The ground central "manifold" will be directly connected to the engine with a hefty braided cable. BTW, use shielded wire for the fuel pump.

maybe it's time to post your msq file and versions so we can check them out. It can't possibly be going into flood clear mode can it?

14" and still falling ice and snow. Avalanches keep falling off my roof. I'll never get the Z back on the road at this rate!
-
What kind of injectors are you using. I am beginning to think it may be the injectors reaching some sort of "resonance".

Anyone want to share their MS-II settings for a snowblower? Got about 12" of snow and it's still coming hard. Took me two hours to clear the driveway and walkways with the 3.8HP snowblower and I will need to do it again in the morning.

Yesterday, after two months of my Z being iced in the storage shed, I was finally able to make my way through the sticky mud to open the shed doors. What a pretty sight, a sparkling clean Z in the midst of our salt and mud covered daily drivers. I hit the ignition, and in half a crank, she fired right up and roared the mice right out of the shed. I let her warm up and enjoy the time idling. Rev'd her to about 4grand a few times, and shut her down. Then I closed and locked the shed in preparation for a foot of fresh snow. What a teaser! Especially with the MS-II running on my kitchen table waiting for the install.

Jegs.com make your own set with one of the V8 wire kits. !!Thread jack over!!

on the other hand, if you want to keep every function of a stock Z, and want to keep all the vacuum lines, I think silicone lines work well. I use them all over the place and they work great. For the tiny vacuum lines that go to the vacuum bottle and operate the vent controls in my 280Z, I used radio controlled car fuel line which is also silicone. The valve cover hose is a dishwasher drain. LOL.

The BIG CLUE for this mystery is the fuel gauge needle jumping from 36psi to 0psi as fast as it can during the anomoly. It should be staring you in the face saying: 1) The fuel pressure pulsing is PROBABLY caused by the injectors opening-closing. 2) The 0-psi is when they are open and there is not enough fuel to refill the rail fast enough. 3) Lean spike TOTALLY corroborates this. My guess is that your fuel delivery setup is flawed. -Plumbing restrictions somewhere. -Too much fuel returning to the tank...ie. not enough "back pressure" from the regulator at that RPM/LOAD range. -Injectors sticking...maybe but I doubt it because it is leaning out. OBSERVATION: The pulswidth is doing what it should be doing. The O2 levels go lean really suddenly. Strangely enough, it doesn't taper off as if you were reaching flow limits of the fuel lines. It's almost like someone shut-off a petcock in the fuel line or opened the return line wide open. I would check four things in particular: 1) Pressure regulator 2) Pump cavitation 3) Broken fuel filter element. 4) Collapsing fuel suction line before the pump.

Oh well I have to break my promise for videos. I actually took the video and then I got a call from mom that she was going to the emergency room with a 104 fever! Spent the rest of the evening in the hospital. She is now on i.v. antibiotics for an internal infection resulting from a minor surgery. I tell you, this might be obvious advice but, STAY AWAY FROM DOCTORS AND HOSPITALS AS MUCH AS YOU CAN!!!! Germy places they are.

I promise....tonight. I'll take some video of the MS-II running on the PC and the Megaview. Videos of the car will have to wait until more Spring is in the air.
