OK Got to work on the car again the past few days. Mechanically it is getting near completion. I still need to tweak the strut bar to make the bolts line up. I don't know why it's off? It seems about 1/2" off and meets the firewall slightly off center. As far as I know, my car is straight. Weird. Also notice the stock fuel regulator on the passengers inner fender. Here you can see the aluminum plates I made to block off the ports on the maifold. Those were made with a hacksaw and a bench grinder! Also you can see the fuel pressure gauge at the end of the fuel rail. Another view. You can see the air filter wedged between the I/C pipe and the A/C compressor. The downpipe. See the aluminum blocking plate. That is where I want to stick a slash tube to generate vacuum to evacuate the valve cover vent. This is currently how I handled the PCV valve. It is a tight space so I had to add some elbows to get the crankcase vent through the PCV valve and into the manifold.

Nice video. The car looks really stable and smooth.

L series - Positive crank case pressure, too much.

What are the two pods that sit on the valve cover? Are they air/oil separators? I suppose you would connect the valve cover AND the block breather to the slashed tube in the exhaust. It probably wont make much vacuum at idle though. That looks like it can be fabbed up pretty easily. Another worry would be that you need to do this at least 12" downstream of the O2 sensor for obvious reasons. -

The color of a surface has an effect on the surfaces ability to radiate and absorb radiative energy. Even if there is no visible light emmision, there is radiation from a warm body. On the receiver body (manifold), lighter colors reflect radiation, darker colors absorb radiation. In the application being discussed here, radiation is a very small factor. Most of the energy transfer will be conduction(contact) and convection(hot air), neither of which are going to be effected by color. Conduction and Convection will be effected only by the composition of the coating. Radiation will be effected by color and the composition of the coating.

I think there is already a thread about the manifolds webbed vs open. I think Nissan did it to sheild the fuel rail. I like it to hide my ugle exhaust manifold. I converted to AN fittings so that when/if I have to change my regulator, I will get an aftermarket one with AN and swap it out easily. The AN fittings are -6 from either Summit or Earls. Look for -6 tube to AN adapters. 5/16" tube. When I actually get to the wiring and programming of the MS, I will start a thread in MS and link to it. This is the pre-install...should have been more specific in the title I guess.

Take a look at your recent past reviews by the company. If the reviews were good, you will have a good argument. I was laid off from my "corporate" company after 8 years. I know how bad the politics can get. I was pretty much in the same boat as you. I sensed the upcoming layoffs and had started a small online based business selling motorcycle bar ends. By the time I was laid off, I already had the website built, the parts in stock, and a steady flow of sales. Word of mouth from happy customers on forums was the only way I generated sales. It was a nice product. I was able to pull in about $20k each year with the website. It was easy work and with all my extra time, I added an extension to my house. The extension added about $100K to the value of my home, making about $2 for every $1 spent. So moral of the story is, you CAN make more money sometimes working for yourself. I did end up getting re-hired by the same company a year later. I then sold the business to my brother after running it for 4 years. It became a bigger business, and I couldnt do it alone.

Now...somebody take all these songs and make a driving CD! We can sell it on Sunday morning info-mercials for $19.99. with a free pair of "Corinthian Leather" driving gloves!

Look at it this way. Suppose you restrict your exhaust pipe alot, OK how about, totally restrict the exhaust pipe, the system will begin to pressurize. Since you have blocked the exhaust, the pressure has no where to go, so it goes back into the cylinders! BINGO instant "Turbo" effect!

That's what my Grandfather did in the 1920's-1940's in Northern Italy. Only he travelled under the lines with a motorcycle, scope, binoculars and hunting dog, to inspect high tension lines from the ground. He always took his hunting gear with him and mixed work with hunting. He was also a national champion clay shooter. That is a cool job no matter how you look at it. Not many people with that on their resume!

Great, thanks John. In that range, there are some pretty good deals.

I was shopping at Summit for fuel filters and noticed a huge range of prices for the washable aluminum bodied ones. The micron size of them swings all over the place. What would be an acceptable micron size for the main fuel filter in a fuel injection system? I realize that smaller micron is better for filtering but worse for flow capacity. Some of them run into the 100's of dollars which seems outrageous. I know factory fuel filters GM, Nissan.....are cheaper and good enough but the Aluminum ones have a cool factor, and are already setup for AN connection and are reuseable.

Where did you ground the sensor? Maybe the reference is off.

Nice Z. I thought I saw that car for sale a while back in some of the racing forums. Did you buy it recently?

Nice video! Notice how the camera car seems unfairly faster than the other cars? It's because he spends less time on the brakes and more time on the gas. Listen to it carefully. It's just like GTR2. We usually run Lotus only class. Inside Joke: For those who race with us on GTR2...good thing EvilC wasn't in that video! What a mess that would become. LOL.

It's been a while since I posted an update. The reason is that there have been a few roadblocks. Literally, we had the flood last week with 18" of water in the basement which kept me away from the Z for a few days. Then the weather turned nice and I was waiting for my two 45 degree AN fittings to come from Summit Racing. Well, a section of my road washed away and FedEx refused to deliver my stuff to me. Funny how UPS delivered a partial order no problem during the same time period, but FedEX, with the two 45 degree fittings, made THREE unsuccessful deliver attempts! WTF? So that held me back. I decided to keep the L28ET intake manifold instead of switching to an earlier one, because of the webbing. It makes good sense as the webbing: 1) is a heat sheild and 2) hides the ugly exhaust manifold. Keeping it meant having to make block off plates for the EGR ports on the manifold and the downpipe. I also needed a plate for the top of the manifold where the AAC mounted. I bought a chunk of 3/8" thick aluminum bar, traced the gaskets with a pencil, and went for it with my hacksaw. Yes, my hacksaw! A few hours later, my dad, a retired machinist, stopped by and called me a nut for using a hacksaw. He's right. So I finally got the 45degree AN fittings and plumbed all the fuel lines. Yeah! Time to install the fuel rail, injectors, and get the whole thing signed, sealed, delivered....wait, CRAP! One of the injector O-Rings is missing. Arrrgh. Off to zparts.com to order an injector o-ring. Resume waiting for delivery truck. Oh what a slow and painful process it is. Good thing I am addicted to this crap or I would quit!

I'm going to beat 1 Tuff Z to the punch here and say, "Red Barchetta" from RUSH. Read about the song: http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=2376 Lyrics: http://www.lyricsfreak.com/r/rush/red+barchetta_20119966.html Listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeZk3W1GrGc&mode=related&search=

and...what kind of toyota brakes fit on my Z? EDIT: sorry for the hijack. -
In Post #4, Z-YA, I think, means that you CAN'T run Alternating, "1-squirt", on MS. OK Alternating banks, 2 squirts per cycle, gives me a Lower ReQ fuel matching the upper ReQ fuel of 7.2ms. This should result in an acceptable idle duty cycle for the 440cc injectors and also minimize the rail pressure drop during injection. I can't wait until all the bench-tuning becomes real-tuning. A few more days and let the wiring begin! The coolest thing is that with this "Hamachi" network program, I can tune my MS-II from anywhere in the world with an internet connection. I am at work on lunch break right now and downloading/uploading .msq files and tweaking them to the MS-II that is in my livingroom on a wireless laptop also running "Hamachi" 40 miles away!

Wrong, the stock drivetrain is actually very strong when in good condition. People here running 10's with the stock drivetrain. Well, actually the u-joints are a bit weak but they can easily handle burnouts if they aren't worn.

Half shaft broke loose on the diff (inboard) side and wedged up in the wheel well or between the strut and the body. OR The front of the diff is pointing straight up into the body of the car (front diff mount failure). The drive shaft came loose and is hung up on the swaybar or front diff mount.

I think that if you run alternating, 2 banks, with a six cylinder, the math doesnt work out evenly. In otherwords the frequency of fuel being injected doesn't match with the 4-cycle of the motor and you would get an interference pattern, or "beats" as they say in wave interference-ology. Of course, the math should be done to prove or disprove me, and I need a drink to do that but I am at work, so I can't drink. Anyhow the Megamanual says you can run alternating, 2 squirts with a 6cylinder engine. I will have to see what that makes for my idle PW because it might be too small....confusion takes hold again. FROM THE MEGAMANUAL: Note: if you choose alternating for port injection, make sure your number of squirts is an even number (2,4,...) and evenly divisible into the number of cylinders. For example, with an eight cylinder engine, you could use alternating and 2, 4, or 8 squirts/cycle. With a six cylinder, if you choose alternating, you MUST use 2 or 6 squirts/cycle. Also, the only possible combinations for an odd-cylinder count engine are either 1 squirt/simultaneous or N squirt/simultaneous combination, where N is the number of cylinders."

Yes I am substituting a properly submerged coolant temp sensor for a dry head temp sensor to save.....$20-$30....I know it's sophomoric but I am such a rebel. Personally, I think the actual aluminum temperature is more informative about the combustion process than coolant. Coolant would have a natural lag. However, to your point, the algorythm in MS is probably programmed FOR the coolant temp behavior and may not translate well to a dry head temp sensor. Understanding your point and still trying it is my little experiment. It's an easy enough thing to remedy should I run into issues during warmup and load changes.
