  1. It's probably here in holland somewhere (grolsch is a dutch brand). Think of the smell the next morning.
  2. I recently pulled the head of the engine I am going to rebuild and found these pistons inside. Yesterday I measured the diameter of a couple of them (there out of the block now) And found them to be about 85.5 mm. That's about have a mm to small. There were some scuffing marks on the skirts so I guess that they are just worn. Now I have to wait another month before I can finish this engine because money does not permit me to buy a new set of pistons this month. . Today i am going to measure the cilinder bores but I can still see the cross patern on the cilinder walls so I don't expect any problems there. does anyone have experience with the pistons Victoria British sells. they sell a complete set with pins and rings for about 200 dollars. And what is the difference between turbo and non turbo pistons? Is it just the dish or perhaps the ring thickness. Any info is very welcome
  3. I just removed the head and found this. The head is a non hydraulic p90A. the block is a F54. I guess that we europeans get all kinds of weird combinations.
  4. Not needing a pc/laptop is not a plus in my book. With the megasquirt system you can see the injection curve and therefor it is a lot easier to know what you are doing. And since when does SDS support wideband 02 and sequential injection. I though I missed something, that maybe they had a new product out. but I just visited there site and looked. SDS does not support wideband 02/ sequential injection. For the price difference you can easily buy a nice second hand laptop.
  5. I use a set from the rear of a Alfa Romeo 164. not very common in the US but there must be something comparable in the junkyards. Just look for a big sedan with seat belts in the rear. I was looking for a picture of mine but I don't have one, Sorry
  6. sure. You can safe the .msq file on a laptop and then dowload it to another megasquirt unit. easy
  7. I have been running ms&s for about a year now and it runs great. If you want to run megasquirt&spark you will have to upload new software to the processor. to upload new software to the megasquirt processor you have to insert a jumper on these two pins (H1). I have put a small switch on H1. This way I can quickly switch to regular mode or bootloader mode. does this mean that i need to mod a normal megasquirt board like the one i found at rs motor sports It depents on the how the board was built. But anyway, if you can hold a soldering iron you can easily modify it yourself. And If you are a little bit more adventures you can add a little board and get two programmable outputs. this way you can get back the idle air and program the other channel as a boost limiter.
  8. I have been running my megasquirt&spark for more than a year and it has performed excelent. 19lbs injectors of a ford explorer FPR of a alfa romeo 156 ts chevy 4 pin ignition module (soon to be replaced by a trigger in the flywheel) msd 5222 fuel pump I have used the 280zx auxilary air regulator for idle air I think the best thing about the megasquirt system is that it tought me soo much about engine tuning and electronics.
  9. Is there anyone here that is thinking of building his own dyno? I found some company's that makes the electronics and software for a home made inertia based dyno. It looks really easy. Here are the links. http://freespace.virgin.net/dyno.power/ http://www.angelfire.com/linux/dyno46/products.html#Top http://www.sportdevices.com/ some more good reading: http://www.dynamometer.fsnet.co.uk/inertia-inertial-or-brake-dyno.htm This little excel program lets you calculate roller diameter and the approximate time of a run. http://www.sportdevices.com/download/rollerssheet2.xls I think that in the end you can have your own dyno for about 2000 dollars. hmmmm... this sure is something to think about over christmas.
  10. My guess is You don't have to do anything. The L engines can be run without lead additives. I have been running my L28 with unleaded for 2 years now. no problem. The brochure from my datsun laurel ( 4 door saloonwith a L24) even says that the engine can be run on LPG.
  11. are the fuel and return line switched around? This happened to a friend of mine. Everything seemed to work but there was no fuel at the injectors.
  12. do my wolfrace rims count as stock. They were an nissan dealer option here in the netherlands and are 14x7.
  13. today there was a boot sale at frank280zx's place. There where about 20 Z's. That is a lot for dutch standards. There was one guy that had a ld28 in his Z. That is nothing new but this one was turbo charged. It had about 170 Hp and 400nm !!! thats about 300flbs. he said that it was great fun to drive to the south af france and pass all the modern cars when driving up the mountainsl. There was also a 240Z convertable with a v8. I didn't like the roof conversion but the v8 looked tight at home in there. I think this is possible the only v8 in holland. very nice. Apart from the wether it was a great day. I really wanted to take some pictures but my batteries ran out after 3 pics.
  14. DUDE I have one too. last month a new 2004 ford focus slammed into the back of it at a trafic light. Insurance is gonna pay me 650 euro's!!! and I get to keep the "wreck". So now I drive a 2 inch shorter car that is payed for by the insurance. But it keeps going. It already has 230.000 Km on it (about 145K miles). but it just wil not die. And I have 155/70-13 as standard. pretty cheap. It will not let you down ths winter. good luck
  15. great pics, but i have a c31 model. It is much uglier than that one.
  16. Hi all, I just wanted to share with you all that I have a new toy to play with. Namely a '82 Datsun Laurel. It has an L24 engine with a single carb, electric choke and automatic idle. It has about 120K miles on it and it looks great. There is a small rust hole in the left front fender, thats it. I am thinking of painting it Black, tinting the windows and polishing the chrome trimming. This will (sort of) make it look like an eighties jakuza staff car Pictures will follow
  17. thanks for your reply. We will see how it turns out when the engine is finished. I have downloaded the manual so hooking it up should not be a problem.
  18. Hi, I have recently bought a HKS EVC electronic boost controller (first type) of ebay. It lookst great but I would like to know if there is a way to test the unit out of the car. I don't think my turbo engine will be ready anytime soon. If I aply 12 volt to the system it lights up fine and all the buttons work. But the valve just makes a clicking sound and it doesn't react to diferent settings . I would like to find a way to make sure its working before I start installing it. Any thoughts?
  19. Guys, Keep in mind that the wastegate has nothing to do with maximum horsepower figures. You could run a t3/t4 without a wastegate at all and run 25 PSI or something like that. The wastegate is there to let you be able to run lower PSI even with a big turbo. I seriously doubt that the internal wastegate can vent off enough exhaust gas to let me set maximum boost at 10 PSI. you would get serious some boost creep. I for one don't want to run maximum boost ALL the time. comments anyone?
  20. I went to a local nissan dealer and asked them to have a look through there old mirco fiches to find this manifold. There parts guy told me that they don't have the old fiches anymore (or the machine to view them). But they did scan most of them on the computer. But no luck. The page showing the manifold was for a NA model. So I guess that nissan europe doesn't have the fiches anymore. There is another guy here in holland (his name is frank too) who is a total genius when it comes to manifacturing things on his CNC machines. He made some stainless rings that slide over each other and connect in the same way as the original flexible piece. He is driving around now with this system and it seems to hold up fine. So I guess i am saved.
  21. wow. thats a great idea! I could replace the right piece with someting custom and put a wastegate on it. can a external wastegate stand the heat of being so close to the exhasut port? All the setups I have seen place the external wastegates farther down the exhaust track.
  22. Here is a picture of the stock turbo manifold as it was sold in europe. The little pipes go into the manifold and a flexible hose fits over the casts pieces and is secured with V-Clamps. I'm sorry that I dont have a better picture showing the flexible hose with clamp. It is a manifold made by hitachi. And here is a picture of a P90A head with solid lifters. As you can see It says P90A on the head But it has solid lifters. Not hydrolic ones. Hmmm... I guess none of us knew about these descrepancies.
  23. Sorry guys, I will try to upload the pictures tonight. It gets more bizar.===> I will also post a picture of a P90A head with solid lifters. The european P90A did NOT have hydrolic lifters!!! And the european turbo engine Has a centrifugal (sp?) advance mechanism with a vacuum pot. It has the VR pickup like the NA 280zx.
  24. It's not that bad. This is how I bought my car. This Is the same car about half a year later. Every time I look at that first picture I am amazed at how the car looks now. Just be patient.
