  1. professional products make a single plane efi intake. They also sell a fuelrail kit for this manifold. the fuel rail kit is rather good.   5. I love the black on top paint scheme in general. I just don't think it suites an s30. The roof line on a s30 (to me at least) is what defines its shape. that and the long nose. If you paint the top halve of the car black you completely lose the shape. On a honda NSX though it is awesome.
  6. yet another question for you. I have a 305 SBC with patriot (ebay) heads. and a super hurricane efi intake. The cam is a crane 10005 272 deg duration and 0.485 lift with 1.6 ratio roller rockers. I am running MS&S II extra. My trans is a borg warner t5. Diff ratio 3.54 OBX LSD. exhaust size is 2.5" from the block huggers merging to 3" behind the trans. I have a single 3" magnaflow muffler. I guestimate about 300 hp. I ran a 8.66 1/8 mile @ 88mph. The car is running well but it is obvious I am lacking torque. I can buy a decently priced 1pc rear seal 350 SBC (4 bolt). The engine looks to be in good shape. Can I obtain 400 rwhp with the 350 and the parts I already have? Or should I go 383, new heads, intake and cam. If the engine indeed turns out to be a good one then it would be a shame not to use the bottom end. Can a stock bottom end handle 400 hp? I would probably need to swap in a hotter cam. I have no idea if the engine has roller lifters or not. I could try to sell my old 305 engine as is. It is a lot easier to sell an engine that people can take for a drive. And spent the money on the new engine.

  8. Grumpy, I just came back from a MonsterJam. It was a lot more fun then I thought it would be. The amount of energie spent in one afternoon is just awesome. The monstertrucks are obviously supercharged v8's but do you have any idea how big these engines are and what kind of fuel delivery system they use? Compression ratio? Power output? type of fuel? I am guessing alcohol or something similar because the fumes where not that eye watering. All in all pretty impresive machines.

  11. I love the first gen SBC engines for there simplicity and power potential but I can't help but notice that it is not the most popular engine swap here on hybridz anymore. When I first started to lurk on this board the majority of the engine swaps where first gen SBC's. After a while the trend started to shift towards big turbo L engines. Now the trend is slowly shifting to the LS series of v8's. I only recently swapped in my 305 SBC and love it. So to me the shift away from the SBC is a bit of a shame. Especially since we have a couple of really knowledgeable guys here. So lets get back to why the SBC is such a great swap in the first place. Grumpy I know you have a lot of information stored in your head so maybe you can give us a couple of engine combo's with exceptional power/dollar ratio's. I am looking to build a 400 rwhp SBC for as little money as possible.
  12. This is how you post the picture on a windows computer. Have dyno2000 on the screen and press PrtSc on your keyboard. This coppies the current screen on your monitor to the windows clipboard. Open MS paint. It's somewhere in you Start menu under programs/accessories. when you have opened MS paint the only thing I do is press ctrl+v. this pastes the picture from the clipboard into the paint program. You then save the picture somewhere on your hardrive. In this case I named the picture "grumpycombo". There are two routes you can take to get the picture onto hybridz. Attached to a post like I did above. There is a button underneath the message screen "where you type your message" called "manage attachments" here you can select the picture you saved on your computer and it will appear under you post. another way is to upload the picture to your album here on hybridz and then link to the picture inside your post. This will make the picture appear inside your post. you can do this by typing . You can get the exact link location by going to your album open the picture you want and click on it with your right button. select "copy image location". This will copy the location of the image to the windows clipboard. If you paste this location right in between it will appear in the post.

  17. Yep. If you want to keep the pcv system this is the way to do it.
  18. not quite. if you put a filter on the valve cover than you will have to block the pipe at the other end. I think it goes into to throttlebody booth. Also you should block the pcv valve on the bottom side of the intake manifold. There is a pipe running from the side of the block to the underside of the manifold. thats the one I'm talking about. you will have source of unmetered air. This air is going into the engine without being metered by the AFM.
  19. Frank destroyed the engine when street tuning megasquirt. The engine was fighting us all the way and in the end Frank got fed up with the l28 and is now installing a BMW V8. When we finally got this thing running and we were doing some tuning frank had a lot of electrical issues and the engine would not run cleanly to redline. He got pissed of and destroyed the engine. He was really pissed of and wanted an engine that would be easy to drop in, has a reliable 400hp and not give him any headaches. So I told him: Get a chevy V8 (crate)engine. You can buy the engine mounts and all the R&D has already been done. He agreed with me for a change!. So he bought a BMW 4.4 liter V8 His build is documented in another thread and to be honest it is actually progressing nicely.
  20. As far as I know the hose should not be connected to a vacuum source but rather filter air from in front of the throttle body. The PCV valve is located on the bottom of the plenum via a one way metering valve. It then goes to the side of the block. The inside of the crankcase is connected to the valve cover via the timing chain opening on the front and a oil drain back opening at the back of the block. From the valve cover it should get clean filtered air. If you are still running the factory AFM then this is a source of unmetered air and could case a slight lean condition. You could plug the PCV hole in the manifold an keep the filter on the valve cover. And maybe put a filter on the side of the block. This would effectively disable the PCV system. Do NOT block the pcv on the valve cover and side of the block. This will not allow the block to vent the blowby gasses from the piston rings and thus put your crankcase under pressure. Can you say oil leak??? Give us a picture of your block so we can see what you got.
  21. The LS is a lowly pushrod engine frank. and I think Sjaaks idea of mounting the engine would make for a much nicer/cleaner install. Go for it!
  22. When I first started this thread I was considering using the Z as a daily driver. This makes milage a big issue. A LPG conversion would run me about 1500 euro's. A liter of petrol costs 1.65 euro at the moment and LPG is about 60 cents. The system will pay for itself in about 10.000 kilometers.
