Yep, I've contacted him. He wants WAAAAY too much for an unfinished car. And Chelle, you've got all the bases covered...so I'll just stfu now.
-
So where's the part that you're giving me the EvilZ? I'll turn it into a GTO.

Here's a few of some past work projects... I didn't get to see it at this point though...... And I found a pic of it now in the hands of Robin Lawrence. I didn't have anything to do with it after the black finish though. I never get to have any of them fun. Well, I wouldn't say NEVER...but you know...

Time to confess. How many s30's do you own?
Filmjay replied to jasper's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
*sniff* None. I've been looking for the donor for my GTO project since this summer. Was looking for a pre-74 240 to stay emissions exempt. But on the advice of a few folks (and the fact that TN passed the SEMA law this year), I'm now looking for a 280. I'm being pretty picky about it though. Actually, VERY picky. A couple nice examples have slipped through my fingers. But most I've found are just too cancerous, too pricey, too far away, or a combination of all of them. I know the right deal is out there and I will find it. But, I'm still here any way. Learning all I can and giving what advice or encouragement I can along the way. -
That's so rad. I love snow! I've only seen more than 6 inches one time in my life...when I went to Colorado to visit my son. And it was about 4 feet. But, it snowed a couple inches here about two weeks ago. Was 65 degrees two days later...but it's been frickin' raining almost ever since. dammit.

That's what my fiance drives...well, the Accord EX part...not the rally part. hmmmm....the right rear quarter just got crunched by an idiot on a cell phone...so MAYBE. Just maybe she'll go for it!

AWESOME! Congrats on the first start up! Sounds great!

I sign the red pinstripe petition. Looks nice though! Especially cool that a member 'shopped it up for ya and you went with it.

Go with a Weber style EFI instead.... http://www.dynatekracing.com/fuelinjection.htm http://www.dynatekracing.com/pdfs/dcfi-description.pdf This is what I'm planning to put into mine. Albeit on a SB or BBC. But, if you can get hold of one of the 6x2 intakes, then you could probably get the Weber throttle bodies from Dynatek. ...and I believe they're in Ohio...so not TOO terribly far from you.

Does anybody else stay up untill 1 am on HybridZ?
Filmjay replied to S130Z's topic in Non Tech Board
Yep. Sometimes later. I'm an insomniac of the worst order. I spend a LOT of time at Grumpy's forum as well. TONS of great info to soak up there. That, and other places too.... -
Chelle, check out this months Kit Car magazine (w/ blue Daytona coupe on the cover). It has the finishing touches on a dimensionally correct GTO replica. It's a full tube chassis car and he used a McBurnie kit, modified for a more correct extended wheelbase. You might be able to even contact Tom about it and ask him some questions as the owner brought the chassis to Thunder Ranch for help with the body install. Here...found a link to the guys' blog. The article is the same, word for word. But, less pics. http://kitcar.automotive.com/82957/0401kc-1962-ferrari-250-gto-build-up/index.html ...and I know you have a Columbo motor... ...though finding the 6 Weber intake might be a bit of a trick. I think I'd agree with the sentiment of starting with a FF Daytona tube chassis though. But, I don't have the means to fabricate a full tube chassis car available either. and although I'm quite sure you've got these links, I'll add them anyway.... http://www.ferrparts.com/ http://www.lascuderiarossa.com/ I've also found quite a few modern Ferrari V12's on ebay lately. Good luck! I look forward to seeing what you decide on. Whatever it is, I'm sure it'll be quite the gem.

DIY 180 Degree/Single plane/Flat plane V-8 crankshaft…
Filmjay replied to BRAAP's topic in Powertrain
Heh...I'll do it, if you supply the crank and come up with a cam profile. But, I'm still looking for the right, solid 280 to put it (or any V8 for that matter) into. (I'm being rather uber-picky about selecting the right donor.) ....as well as a new job now...being freelance sucks. I'll have a lot of work to do before I get to a motor install though. But, as I outlined to you a few days ago, a bare block 600+bhp SBC, or even more in a BBC, can easily be built for less than what a performance rebuild for a Northstar would be. Hence, why I believe nobody's tried it yet. The few who really contemplate it get into spec'ing it out and realize what a monetary hassle it really would be. Though, I DID briefly contemplate just dropping the cradle from the Aurora and trying a rear-engine Z....briefly. VERY briefly. But, just to get the N* back in running order, I now have a head gasket to replace. ...and it's not cheap, or relatively easy. Remember that necessary (and expensive) timesert kit I mentioned? Ya, my N* now requires one. -Jay -
What is it about the Nordic areas and cool cars? I've come across quite a few really awesome rides from that corner of the world lately.

I'd venture 2900-3000 with the all iron V8 and cage. But all the aluminum throughout the car kinda makes it a tough guess.

I built a portable one for a shop I worked for out of wood, them covered it in 3/8" diamond plate. I got heavy duty castors from http://www.penn-elcom.com/ They do mostly entertainment/road case hardware (that's my background), but I always use their castors and extrusions. They're just about EVERYTHING resistant (oil, chemical, fire, etc.), have great weight ratings, and are very well built. I might even have a few of the 5" lockers, and a few feet of their aluminum extrusions, around if you're interested.

PM sent.

I say flat-plane crank for a SBC. But...because I want someone else to do it and work the bugs out...then sell me one. Seriously though...it's NEVER been done afaik. Not only would that be uber-cool, you might have something for a little cottage industry there. I say, why not have your project give a little something back if it can? ...and I was dead serious when I said I'd donate my 4.0L Northstar for the project, or buy one if you got it worked out. You anywhere near Milwaukie? I should be up that way sometime after the first of the year.

BOO! No smoke! j/k Still faster than anything I've got right now.

Go T5! It was the OE manual trans on the '82-'83 ZX's....as well as over 200 other cars through the years. I don't imagine the trans tunnel dimensions changed that drastically. Though you may have to "massage" the tunnel a bit with a hammer...but that's no biggie. There are basically two classes of T5. The World Class (WC) and Non-World Class (NWC). You can find them in junk yards everywhere. They're the SBC 350ci of transmissions. If you don't have it yet, you should look for one from an '89-up Mustang GT. Or if you get lucky..one from a '93-up Mustang Cobra...the T5z. Though the '85-up models would be good too as they were updated with a taller gear ratio. But the T5z was upgraded with shorter throw, tapered bearings, and a bunch of other good stuff that I can't remember. They're GREAT gearboxes if you treat it well and don't dog the crap out of it without maintaining it regularly. But no...it's generally not a good trans if you're planning on putting more than 300 ft/lbs through it. The guys that think they're crap are generally the ones that are trying to put big power through it. But, it you're gonna stay under that with your motor, it'll last you for ages...and with the correct bell, will mate to just about anything. I was just reading up on T5's a few hours ago actually, and came across this article that I got a lot of good T5 info from... http://www.carcraft.com/howto/116_0609_t5_transmission/index.html I'm looking for a nice 5-speed gearbox as well...but I have a bit more in power requirements, so I'll probably be going with Tremec's aftermarket TKO series. But they don't come as a factory trans in anything, so I'll prolly have to buy a new one.

Hey guys and girls! I was wondering if any of you have ever actually weighed your GTO's. I'm still waiting to find the right Z, but WILL still be doing a conversion. But, while I'm waiting, I'm putting everything down on paper that I can possibly think of. I waited until I got a good baseline budget for everything before I considered even thinking about motor options in earnest. I've played around here and there, but haven't committed to anything yet. It was ALMOST gonna be the first Northstar Z since I already have a 4.0L N* in my possession. But, after spec'ing out everything needed, I decided to leave the first northstar Z to someone with a bigger budget who can afford the extra $2000 in specialty tools. But, the overall weight of the finished product is going to dictate how much power I'd like to put in the car. Yeah, I could just pick something and start cranking away, but I'd like it to be an overall well balanced machine. So...has anyone ever weighed their GTO here? Even venture a ballpark guess? Thanks,
-
When it comes to welders, you can't go wrong with one of the big three... Hobart, Miller, or Lincoln Electric.
-
Thanks man...but...I already have the engine. I'm not looking for one. But, yeah....the 4.0L motor I have will make 400hp QUITE easily without forced induction. But the necessary specialty tools and performance parts for it would be in a price range that could build a 600hp SBC. I'm gonna keep the motor. I'll do something with it later on. The only reason I bought my old Aurora was specifically for the engine. But, for this project, I think a SBC or even a BBC is gonna be my best bet.

Sad. I saw that on ebay too. He was selling it as a "fully restored" show car. I didn't realize it was THAT Al guy tho. He keeps messing around with folks like that and he's gonna get shot. I hope that guy gets his lawsuit going.

Very nice! By the third run, you're besting Z51 Corvettes.
