It's been awhile, but it's time to start moving forward with my build. This will be a 'warm' turbo build. Not looking to win the HP wars. Currently I have a bin of parts for a motor that I'm going to load on a pallet and ship off to the builder. I have no ECU or ignition yet. I am looking up aftermarket ECU's and was wondering how far you guys with stand-alones (megasquirt, etc) have tuned the car's manners and how much work was it. I looked at the JWT 300zx upgraded ECU, but I am not sure if I will just end up with a completely remapped system anyway. While I would like power, I also want a OEM-like manners if possible as this car will be 90% street. I'm only asking because of comments I've read from people like Mark Rolston who did VQ swaps but chose to keep their OEM ecu's for the reason I am stating above. I realize there is prob a chasm of tech between a z31 piggybacked ECU and a G37HR reflash but I figured it can't hurt to ask 🙂

I came across this today when I was browsing the youtubes. Not sure if he is a member here or on the facebook group. I really like how the sound of the exhaust has changed, that's always been my only gripe with the L turbo motors.

That is actually a much better price than I was expecting. Is that just for the machining or machining+material?

Is there any appreciable difference between an aluminum vs steel balancer in a (mostly) street turbo car? There is a 3# weight penalty, but that might not be a bad thing. Thanks for posting those pics! Did you remove the impeller on the stock water pump? What kind of numbers were you putting down, that motor looks like a serious piece of kit.

I don't know if this person is a member here, but I found this video last night randomly. My only question is the height of the tube in relation to the thermostat. Won't this make it very difficult to bleed all the air out of the system?

I was comparing this plenum upper to the senza pari intake I have and noticed they are about the same length. If the welds on the plenum of my intake go, I may try to make an adapter for this. I've talked to that shop on the phone and they have said they worked on L's in the past. I was just wondering if anyone has had any first hand experience. I wanted a local place in the event i find some "mystery machining" later on the engine. I've seen EPR's site before, I believe their owner was the one that bought Nissan's old Electramotive VG30 engine. If I were building a VG they definitely would be the ones I would call.

I've been thinking of using them for my engine build. Anyone have any experience with them? I know Robellos has a great rep, but I wanted a place thats a little more local to me (socal).
