I had the same prob when I ripped out all my FI wiring harnes to switch to SU's in my '75 I thought I pulled one to many wires out or something. All the lights worked, but no signals. Turns out it was the relay that was seized/dead. There are two on the the drivers side dash, under the left side.. above the ECU ..sort of.. (somewhere.. don't know where they are SUPOSED to be bolted, cause mine were just hanging..) If you can find them, turn on the hazards and which ever one clicks, is working. Try swaping that good one to the 'other' conector. It should be close by, and will be the same style conector. That reminds me.. I still havn't replaced the one for the hazards.. (stole it for the signals! )

I'm going tomorrow morming to look at some "Datsun Z280 stuff" (thats how the add reads, seriously!) This guy is cleaning out his garage, and all this "stuff" has been there for years, from when his son tinkered with an old Z. List I got (partial) was front fenders, a hood, drivers door, front struts/assy's (?) a transmition (dono if it's 4 or 5 gear) and a few boxes of parts. I get the feeling the guy won't want much for the whole lot.. He told me on the phone; "...Well Im jus cleaning out the garage, and figures I'd throw it in the paper incase anyone wanted, or can use the stuf, ya know?" I think it's worth the 30 min drive to check it out.. I'll let you know if I get some struts you can use. If so, you can have them if you wana pay shipping..

Ahem.. if you're gona sell the 3.1 setup.. what kind of $$$ are you loking for? Hmm.. better question, where are you? No point asking how much if I couldn't afford shipping! Im kind of in the same dilema as you right now.. I could get a *cough* 4 cyl turbo motor with 5 speed (complete car actually..) for half what it will cost to rebuild my 2.8 motor alone.. but I like the sound of the L6.. and it's already in there (runs ok, just blowing smoke and down on power.. I drive it like I stole it..) Let me know what's up.. and good luck on the swap if you do the RB26, sounds like fun!

Having worked at a gas station, I have a little understanding of how this works.. but it still burns me that the price goes up so fast, but drops so slow (if at all!) Really, it doesn't make sence sometimes.. A place will have full tanks, costing them $x and sell it for $X. Ok, they paid for it, and they'll sell it and make a bit... BUT; then the price will go up a few days later... NO MORE FUEL HAS BEEN DELIVERED!! (I have seen this happen) So now they are selling the SAME FUEL they paid $x for, at $XX!! Profit on top of profit.

Well, perhaps.. but if I was looking at buying your 300, I'd be leary of an engine that has sat for 8 years, and was making noise THEN.. you know the turbo's shot, but you cant be "sure" the motors ok.. Brakes are probly all seized/rusted from sitting for that long, and the fuel in the tank/lines has surly turned to varnish. I still say parting the car will make more money.. mho. And what you're offering beeing "worth more"? I dono... it just depends on "who" is wanting it.. I have a 2 weel drive truck for sale out front that I'm sure is worth more that the beater 4X4 Im DRIVING.. (both trucks are same year/king cab/black/ect) but I can't sell that thing for the life of me! See.. winter's here, and no one's looking for a 2wd pick up. Doesn't matter what it's worth.. it matters who wants to part with their cash for it. Oh.. the 5 gear you have will likely not stand up to the turbo ZX motor if you do get one.. iirc, the turbo's used a borg warner T5. Not trying to be a dink man, just sayin..

Have any of you ever dealt with a dipshit?
datsunlover replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
Kinda sound like my boss.. always pointing out things that he 'thinks' are alright to do, and it's not a problem.. and 'explaining' things to me that I already know.. when I'M the guy with more automotive expirience!! (he's said this) but he's the boss, so you know where that goes.. He OBVIOUSLY knows little to nothing on a subject, (he knows machining, I'll give him that) but because he's the boss, he 'must' know more than me (lowely 2nd year aprentice) unfortunatly, I can't tell him where to go... yet. got to finish this dang appreticship and get my papers... -
Well then.. sorry, my bad. It seams I was wrong.

Death wish: Rode an R1 powered ATV yesterday
datsunlover replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
Or put wheelie bars on it.. -
I feel I should say something about this.. I replaced the one on my passenger door with something I found at a J/Y; Renault Aliance. (sp?) I cant remember what I used for the drivers side (there was only one on the Renault), but I have to slam the heck out of it (got to find another aliance!) and I'm afraid I'll break the glass one day. The pasenger door closes almost perfect though. Just a thought on a cheaper solution..

Too bad you're so far away from me.. but I'm sure SOMEone closer would be interested in the car.. The rims/hubs/brakes/LSD diff would be worth something for SURE.. If you're willing to part out the car. Thing is.. it it's present condition, it's probly not gona be worth as much as a zxt drivetrain... As for your '73, it doesnt sound all that bad really.. I'm not sure what the head gasket is worth, but it can't be much.. a whole engine gasket set is only $90 I think so...maybe $25 for the H/G? (I'll bet someone else here will know for sure) And as for the carbs, you should be able to get a hold of some used/junkyard SU's cheep, and rebuild/clean them up (basicaly make two good carbs from 4) trust me, they are VERY simple. I got mine AND a zx dizzy for $125. IMO, you should part out/sell the 300zxt, and just fix your 240's gasket and carb problem for now. Then you can save for the L28ET swap, AND have a Z to drive! Good luck man, what ever you decide.

Yah, but it was kinda crappy IMO.. compared to the book.
-
I don't know about that.. didn't the maxima use the V6 starting in '84? (first year of the 300zx AND that 'new' V6..) If I'm right on that, then I'm almost positive it's NOT the same trany.. at least, it probly wouldn't 'bolt up' to a Z L6 engine.

My 82 280zx is stupid and won't start
datsunlover replied to a topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Does it sputter, or try to run? I don't think the box on the dizzy is directly conected to the injectors, but if it's malfunctionng, the ecu will probly cut fuel off/not fire the injectors.. Maybe try another ignition box if possible.. and (as silly as it sounds) make sure the flap in the air flow meter isn't stuck closed/binding. -
My 'Ford" friend is trying to convince me to use the SC3.8, instead of the 2.3 turbo. (If ANY of this dream turns into reality) And I was concerned about the h/g issue and cracking heads.. I had not done much reasearch yet, but it would seam those two issues have been adresed here.. But the MAIN issue I had with it is, like has been stated, the 'engineering' involved to make it fit/work in a Z. For that kind of time/effort, I could do my original 351 V8 plan and most likely have more power/ect. There are reasons that plan has been scraped (for now) so it looks like no matter how 'good' the 3.8 actually is, it's not gona happen for me. Good to know for future reference though.. I have half a dozen swaps/projects in my head that Im sure I'll attempt/play with in the coming years. I have to finish my aprentishit first, and buy a little house.. with a big garage. Hope we're still burning fosile fuels by then!

Help! my 240z wont go pass4000RPM!!
datsunlover replied to Jonas240z's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Umm.. are you sure the throttle cable is opening the carbs up all the way at WOT? If not, it may be the reason it's hitting a 'wall' at 4500.. not enough air flow.. -
t-bird 2.3 turbo anyone? (a bit long...)
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Other Engines
I knew this was gona happen... You guys in the states ALL say "just get an L28ET..." Well, up here in Canada where I live, IF you can find one, it's IMPOSIBLE for me to get one for $700. I'm talking JUST the motor. No ecu, no harness, no tranny. Trust me. I've looked. And I'm sure SOMEone will now come back with "Dude, I'll sell you a complete package motor/trans/ecu/harness for $XXX!!!" Yah, and then I have to get it to me and pay for shipping/ect. Besides.. call me 'jaded' but over the years I've been burned TWICE buying motors that I couldn't hear run, and I will not let it happen again. I heard this T-bird run, can pick it up myself, and KNOW what Iim getting, to a ceartain extent.. and I'm POSITIVE that the 2.3 would be a cheeper motor to rebuild than an L28ET. BUT: All of this is probly worthless banter at this point, as my job/income apears to be going up in smoke, and it looks like I'll just be doing a junkyard (AKA budget) buildup N/A of some sort, IF I can even afford that... -
If your really "set" on having the 4 gear.. (sleeper look I guess? Nostalgia?) why not a later 280Z 4 gear? Mine (75 280) is still holding up, and I'm kind of abusive to it.. (I'm only pushing it with a fairly stock L28 mind you..) They arn't the greatest thing.. but I'm sure they are tougher than the early 240's, and it seems they're pretty much worthless to most Z guys.. Bet you could pick one up cheep.

I'd like to say, (as a Canadian...eh), I agree.. ENOUGH of the POLITICAL CRAP!!! Really.. I was getting sick of it all... Ok.. good.. it's over, lets build cars again!
-
Curse and swear at it. Really, I find thats what has to be done.. keep playing with it, making minor adjustments and eventually, it'll work right... well, sort of right.. The window is tricky, and I find you have to adjust in what seam like the wrong way to make it work right.. And the doors... My drivers side door refuses to latch perfectly, and I've resigned myself to slaming it. I'll probly try to fix it properly this winter whilst the car is up on stands..

Yah I had to replace a hard line in the rear drivers side (and both flex lines.. ugh) and couldn't find metric fittings. Ended up buying a length of 3/16 line, and a short piece (6" I think) of 'Japanese brake line' that had the metric fittings and flares on it already. Cut the Jap line to steal the fittings, and reflaired the 3/16" line.. havn't had a leak yet! But I'm gona upgrade to a zx M/C and booster and toy4X4 this winter, so looks like I'm in for more brake line fun..

Deal Gone Sour - Not All 'Hybriders' Have Code of Ethics
datsunlover replied to 240Z2NV's topic in Non Tech Board
Wow.. this is gettng heated.. My $.02? Sorry man, but IMO, it was up to you to determine if the parts were what you wanted when you receved them.. For example; I bought some carbs/intake and dizzy from a member here (last year) and the day I got them, I spent an hour going over evrything. Looked ok, aside from the plastic collar on the dizzy beeing cracked (shipping.. it happens) and I informed the seller of this, but I told him it wasn't an issue; these things happen. So I sat the carbs and dizzy on a shelf for a few months till I was ready for them. When the day came I needed them, I pulled them out and realized the vac advance on the dizzy was BENT and would most likely be totaly inoperative. Probly from the bump in shipping that caused the cracked plastic piece. Crappy.. OH WELL!! I supose I could have called the seller and said "Make it right! " but I felt that it was MY fault for not noticing in the first place, and could not start bitching about it NOW 3-4 months after the initial transaction! Really, the usable pair you have is worth some $$$, and you're still further ahead than if you bought all 4 brand new.. just buy the pair you need, instale them along with the used pair, and suck it up. -
Man oh man... When it rains it pours.. Thought I had evrything sorted out as far as my car goes, thought work would be ok, thought money would hold out... NOPE!!! I figured I'd have sold my old truck by now, but all I'v had is tire kickers wasing my time... I've also realized it'll cost TWICE what I was hoping for to re-build the engine and 5 speed my Z, so out the window with that.. no prob.. I'll just do the 2.3 turbo/T5 from a T-bird. Wait a second.. Two probs: cant get a hold of the guy with the car, AND now my boss has become even MORE of a weirdo.. I've been having ..issues.. at work for the past few weeks, and don't have much nice to say about my boss to begin with. Anyway, he says he can't afford to keep paying rent at the shop we're at, (and his house in town AND the farm property he bought.. long story) SOOO... he's gona move 2 mills, a lathe and a saw into the ONE CAR GARAGE (not insulated) at the farm house and the rest of the shop equipment into the old decrepid barn (also not insulated, and seriously.. it looks like it might fall down any second!) and then he plans to sell his house in town, and move to the farm house. All this will happen this month acording to him. SO; I now have absolutly NO place to strip a car down (T-bird) and to make maters worse, I've been at home sick most of the week, so no paycheck for me monday! And I don't even know if there IS work on Monday.. from the way my boss was talking today. So my Z is on indefinit "hold", Im sick as a dog (ugh.. need drugs again..) My boss is a dink, work sucks, and looks like I'm laid off soon, winter is coming, AND Im broke... Hooray...

t-bird 2.3 turbo anyone? (a bit long...)
datsunlover replied to datsunlover's topic in Other Engines
Yah, thats what I've been thinking... Can't get a hold of the guy with the t-bird though.. doh... And life has goten.. crazy the last few days.. I'm gona go post a rant I think...
