  1. If you're looking at MSA I'd say go for something around Schneider's Stage IV. Personally I'd have one reground to around that spec rather than buying the Schneider new. Something in the ~.500 lift and 290-300 duration range. You'll have to do a bit of work to run a cam that large, like getting aftermarket springs and retainers and running different valve stem seals and fitting the right lash pads, but it's worth the hassle. Search, read the stickies in the L6 forum, and you should find lots of helpful info.
  2. Did you sing it like James Hetfield, or like the Burke Shelley? James: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wqTRWvmHB5Y&feature=related Burke: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6G1GiIDg-q0 Even though I like Budgie, I have to admit that Burke sounds like an injured goat...
  3. You will get a hp increase from triples, but if you're not really familiar with them you'll probably spend a bit of time and $$$ getting them tuned properly. For a street car SU's work just fine, and SU's with a decent sized cam will probably work better than a stock engine with Mikunis.
  4. You should be able to pull the master out of the booster far enough to check the reaction disk without disconnecting the lines. If you're more comfortable disconnecting the lines go for it, but I don't think it's strictly necessary.
  5. I have one I'll part with for a 240. My understanding is the only difference is the door weatherstrips, and I'd go with the universal weatherstrips people get from http://www.mcmaster.com or jcwhitney on those anyway. You should be able to search and double check me on that. It looks like they're $250 now. I'll go $175 and I'll cover shipping if you're interested. I bought it about a couple years ago and then my car went more and more in the racecar direction and I can't use any of it anymore. It's just been sitting in the garage.
  6. It was done in the 70's when racing classes changed so that 240s that were build could be raced as 280s. I know there was an IMSA flared car on craigslist that someone here bought that had the 280 tail lights on a 240 for that reason, and I think it was fairly common practice for racers back in the day.
  7. Yes. Metallica covering "Crash Course in Brain Surgery" or "Breadfan" by Budgie and giving Budgie credit for writing the song is different than saying that you wrote it. I did a little more digging and there isn't too much debate to be had. They've lost lawsuits and paid back royalties. I was just surprised. I guess this is not a new issue for the band, but it's new to me.
  8. Put a bottom shelf on there and that will make it less wobbly. Then if you really want it sturdy add some diagonals on the sides.
  9. If they were covering a song I'd understand, but they actually claimed to write the songs. Apparently the lady who wrote the Joan Baez song eventually got credit and is now shown as a co-writer of "Babe I'm Going to Leave You" on Zeppelin I albums (since the 90's or so the radio show said). Even further back Pat Boone's covers of Little Richard were covers. Sad, crappy covers, but they were covers and Boone never claimed to write Tutti Frutti. I guess few or none of these other bands ever got any credit at all. And think of the money that was made... insane.
  10. Shouldn't matter for the pedal feel. You want the larger reservoir to feed the front brakes because they have a larger capacity and they'll drain more fluid out of the reservoir as they wear down, but the master works the same way for the front and rear sections so that wouldn't explain the pedal feel.
  11. Not a huge fan, but a fan... maybe until they were talking about them stealing most of their biggest hits on the radio today. Here are some examples (there were several more on the radio show I was listening to): http://www.associatedcontent.com/video/26428/led_zeppelin_rip_off_artists_.html
  12. Stage II is too small. Do some searching and buy something bigger.
  13. Search "stitch weld" and you'll find tons of stuff from me and many others.
  14. So what is this a picture of? It says rx7 in here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=143608
  15. The RX7's caster is adjusted at the upper control arm, not at the strut top. Grafting on a larger strut tower would work with a caster/camber plate and there are many available. Mustang and Porsche come to mind.
  16. I had to do this once with a car that was going to the JY. I screwed a 2x4 into the frame rails at the front and back, we jacked up the front and set it on the greased trailer rails, then backed the trailer as far under the shell as we could, then 2 guys lifted the back of the car onto the trailer. We pulled it on with a hand winch and that was that. To get it off we chained the back of the car to a post outside the junkyard and dragged the trailer out from under it... Yeah, it was fun...
  17. Did you check for slop as reported by 75&78Z? You don't want that slop in there, in fact you want the carrier to be hard to get into the housing because it's such a tight fit. Ideally it would be "have to smack it with a dead blow to get it in tight".
  18. I had interference with the strut and added a 1/4" wheel spacer, so after the spacer probably 3/16" clearance and never rubbed. This was with Yokohama A005s. I think they're stiffer than the GY and not as stiff as the Hoosier, based on the descriptions I've read of all 3.
  19. In the one of the torsen pages I linked to there is a bit about using LSD additive for noise reduction.
  20. Get the outer tie rod ends and the ball joints first. When you're changing the outer tie rod ends you can check the inners without the suspension connected and you'll have a much better feel for how tight the joints are. In my experience the inners don't go bad nearly as often as the outers. Of course you should replace the rack boots too.
  21. I'm not sure why you think you'd do less tinkering with the NA engine. You'll just be thinking about different cams, ignition and cam timing, porting and polishing, exhaust, intake manifolds, headers, etc. There's no shortage of crap to mess with on the NA stroker. I'd keep what you have and enjoy the fact that you have more power potential with a less high strung engine.
