  4. I think the H190 detroit locker fits in this R190 diff too. My friend had that setup in his 510 and it was BRUTAL. I just stumbled across the fact that there was a H190 detroit the other day, and I know my friend's was an R190, so it kinda makes sense that you could put the two together. Not sure anyone cares, just thought I'd throw it out there. John meant 4 pinion I'm sure. Even 4 pinion carriers still have 2 side gears...
  5. Must be an East coast thing, because all the NASA events I've run (open track and autox -- probably 30 total) have gone off without a hitch. There was one autox which was a NASA event but was "hosted" by another club that was pretty bad, but every other time has been great. POC is the Porsche group to run in CA, and I have to agree that they know what they're doing and have seemingly endless $$$ to throw at an event. Every time I've been out with them it has run like clockwork, and they have put on without a doubt the best track events I've been to. Not to mention the ear to ear smile that comes with passing 911's! One thing I really like about POC is that they rent transponders, so you can really see what happened lap by lap and session by session. Never seen that anywhere else.
  6. That would work. Probably a bit much for the street and you'd need a spacer in the rear, but it would work. So would the BZ3099 or the GTi struts with a spacer in the rear for that matter...
  7. They are a different OD and ID, but the ID is something like .020" different, and the tube is thicker so that makes the OD a lot different. The 240 stuff fits in the 280 housings, and the gland nut will still hold it tight, so that won't be a problem. The problem is figuring out which of the struts to use.
  8. That doesn't sound right. I don't know if this is right for a 280, but for my 240 I'm using the BZ3099 in front and the 240 front cartridge in the rear. I think the 280 rear strut housing is an inch deeper than the 240, so you'd need a 1" spacer under a 240 front strut, but I'm not positive...
  9. I got rear-ended by a Firebird going ~50mph, which then pushed me into a head on collision with an Acura Legend who should have been doing about 35 to my (???). The Firebird driver said she never even touched the brake, because she never saw me at all. This happened back in 92 or 93. The rear of the car was pushed in about a foot and a half, and the front was pushed up to the radiator support, and maybe 1" more. NONE of the glass broke, including the rear hatch. In fact, the tail light lenses were busted but the bulbs were still on. When the cops arrived and asked if my lights were on, I pointed at the car, and said "They still are, the turn signal is still on too." The chassis was pretty badly tweaked, and the passenger door had to be forced open, then wouldn't close anymore. Bad part was I was only wearing the lap belt and I broke my nose on the steering wheel. We were going into a fast food drive thru and on that car I couldn't quite roll down the window with the shoulder belt on. I guess I have short arms or something. My wife hit her head on the dash because she didn't have the manual adjust 240 belt tight enough. All in all I was impressed. The car looked like an accordion at first glance, but the more you looked at it the better it looked inside the cabin, where it mattered most. I still can't believe none of the windows broke.
  10. I was talking to Gordon Glasgow about this when I did mine, and he said the tips of the fingers should point towars the center of the diff. He said that he's seen the tips of the plates break off when pointed out. So you should have springs clutches and gears aligned as so: <||||gear gear||||>
  11. The pinion gears inside the LSD do not move unless you turn, so if your problem is when you're just driving along, it's not the pinion gears inside the carrier. When you are driving straight, the ring and pinion are the only gears moving, all the stuff inside the carrier is just along for the ride. It's not until you turn that the side and pinions need to do anything. Most likely culprit is pinion bearings easy to set up the preload wrong and they are notoriously whiny in R diffs.
  12. Yep. Those little tiny springs couldn't possibly be what holds the lifter in contact with the cam lobe. They just hold them open when you shut the engine off so they don't bleed down, that way it doesn't sound like a diesel on startup. That's my understanding anyway...
  13. A smaller choke would help the stumble but would hurt the top end. I'm running 37's and still have a little stumble. I have 34's but don't want to sacrifice the top end to use them. At some point it boils down to trying to make a racing carb acceptable for the street. The Webers have a lot more parameters to adjust than the Mikunis, and you can get that part throttle driveability nailed down perfect. I've never known anyone with Mikunis that totally irradicated the stumble that you're struggling with, but they all said once you get the right pilots it all comes down to the choke size. Looks to me like you have the right pilots...
  14. I think he has a lot more than what he shows on the website. Apparently he has Mikuni jets and all sorts of race stuff not shown. If you really want the pan I'd try calling.
  15. Lucky you! Someday I'll find time and money simultaneously to check my #'s. Someday... This is your small pilot for sure.
  16. I think your pilots are too small and your mains are too big. I'd expect you'd end up with a mid 60's pilot and a 160 to 170 main fuel and a 180 to 190 main air.
  17. pm rc's240z. I still haven't figured out exactly what his relationship with PDK is, but I know they did a LOT of work on his beautiful BRE replica.
  18. This other thread has exactly the same theme: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=96117 JSK hasn't answered any of my previous 10 or so emails and I've seen several complaints from others saying the same. I think he's out of biz.
  19. The insurance will be cheap, and you may find a cheap Z, but you're going to spend EVERY DIME YOU MAKE keeping the thing running, and that's assuming you can work on it yourself. At least I would have when I was 16.
  20. I can't seem to remember classic datsun's URL... What could classicdatsun's URL be??? Classic datsun... classic datsun... classic datsun... hmm. Nope, it's not coming to me.
  21. If its stock just get another one. Might want to look at the starter too. Sounds like the solenoid isn't throwing the little gear all the way out. Is it grinding sometimes when you start it?
  22. Is that a shelf in your *** or are you just happy to see me?
  23. Those are AWESOME!!! Love the one with James Brown and Gary Oldham. And the Madonna one is priceless...
