  1. As to what to use, how about shim stock? Or buy them from ISKY or whoever has them these days. Machinists can order them for you, they aren't hard to find. More important question is WHY you would do this? The longer valve stem doesn't do you any good unless you're going to shave the head to boost the compression. The common setup is to shave .080, then use the N42 valves because they are .080 longer, and shim the cam towers up. The shims return the cam towers to the right height with relation to the timing chain, and the longer valves put the rockers in the right location with relation to the cam and lifters. Your original post seemed like you were trying to get the biggest valves into the head that you could. The P90 valve is the biggest Nissan put in, and it has the same size head as the N42, so there is no advantage to swapping out one for the other in terms of flow capacity.
  2. [newbie]Where can I get that widebody kit? Do you think it can be adapted to a Z???[/newbie]
  3. My new 5.3 gets ~18 unloaded. I was thinking of trying a different cam and bigger exhaust for better mileage. On my Toyota 4 banger I got about 25, then I installed a high lift low duration cam and a header and 2.25" exhaust and I got over 32mpg. I don't know exactly what effect this type of mod would have on the 5.3, but I expect I could get it into the low 20's at least.
  4. Terry used a shorter endlink and modified a Honda bar to work. He basically just made everything fit under the CV joint. I've seen sway bars that don't connect to the middle of the control arm, but they weren't sheet metal control arms like our Datsuns have. It'd be interesting to hear if anyone has tried this and if the loads from the sway bars were ok for the control arm. http://www.fototime.com/ftweb/bin/ft.dll/detailfs?userid={7DC317B0-8EDB-4B2E-A837-F708D07C9769}&ndx=36&slideshow=0&AlbumId={17E71651-3EF8-4704-9954-22956DF10FCB}&GroupId={3B8751D4-D564-4405-8017-F14E1CDA9AF0}&screenheight=768
  5. For the same reason that Americans can't be forced to apply sharia law by Iran. Now if you're in Iran, different story...
  6. The Constitution applies to citizens of the United States or to situations which occur within the US' date=' and when dealing with citizens of the United States I would agree that we are bound by the Constitution. But if you catch a Saudi national in Afghanistan, the laws of the Constitution are about as valid as the laws in Saudi Arabia. And I have no problem with using either, or the Afghani laws for that matter. Fighters from other countries' armies get protection from the Geneva Convention rules, terrorists from any country don't get protection from the US Constitution. But they know what questions to ask now or at least they have a MUCH better idea. The questions don't have to be so narrowly focused either. I don't think you're using your imagination as to what questions could be asked. Why does torture need to be differentiated from what we DO use, interrogation. I think you'd have a pretty tough time making an argument that interrogation doesn't work, so why wouldn't a little motivation along with some interrogation work even better. I think I should state for the record that I'm not enthusiastic about the idea of torturing people, but to say that it doesn't work is bull. To say that it only works as well as the torturer is a much better argument. So if you have a very intelligent and knowlegable torturer...
  7. I would suggest that you dip the car if you can. There is a ton of dum-dum or seam sealer in these tubs, including quite a bit around the floors, and it is a bitch to get it all out or weld around it. I'm not sure that media blasting would take it off, but it seems like dipping would remove it. Although I am no expert, I would definitely get all the crap (paint, bondo, dum dum) off before you start fixing. Taking it off a bit at a time is a real pain. It will be interesting to see if my newly formed opinion is backed up by the experts...
  8. I have absolutely no problem sending a law breaker back to his country of origin. Why anyone would is beyond me. As to torture not being effective, I had a class on Vietnam where we had a couple of former POW's come in and talk about being tortured in the Hanoi Hilton. They seemed to think that it was pretty effective. They said that all of their training had convinced them that they would not give in under torture, but less than a week into their captivity and being subjected to the "rope trick" they were spilling the beans and crying like babies. They were also EMPHATIC that NOBODY could hold up to it, and said that EVERYONE they were in there with had broken, and broken quickly, and had told the interrogators EVERYTHING asked of them. "Torture is not effective" is a false mantra IMO, and I think my sources are pretty firm on this one. EDIT--I do agree that you can get a false confession out of someone very easily thru torture. But if you're looking for information... that is a different story. 2nd EDIT-- http://vailtrail.com/newsdetail.cfm?NewsID=2718
  9. That sounds appropriate to me... I'd sure as hell want my $50K back.
  10. Mikunis used to come with asbestos. Almost a clear white, sealed to carbs and manifold by o-rings. Nissan Comp sells (sold?) the rubber type which are preferred, they sound like what you have. I don't know if that is the standard Weber insulator or not. I thought the Webers came with a solid insulator, not the rubber ones. Not a Weber guy, though...
  11. Sounds like piston slap to me. Piston slap generally is really bad when cold, and noisiest when just barely giving throttle.
  12. OK, you're right, but the complaint wasn't "They used the less efficient pusher/puller fan blade design", and as I read it Drax had it right. The guy wanted the fan mounted behind to push air forward into the radiator. My point was that if it was mounted behind the radiator and the blade and wiring were reversed to work as a puller then that is totally legit. I don't like the wiring much, but like I said before, it just proves that they're both assclowns...
  13. Uh, yeah. So when you buy a fan, do you go purchase a pusher or a puller? [hint]This is a trick question...
  14. Anyone know if the diesel has the same exhaust manifold pattern? Basically I want to know if the manifolds line up on the head with the same spacing as the gas engine. Anyone have any experience here?
  15. Someone did just this and used an eccentric adjuster out of a Mercedes IIRC. This was posted not more than 2 months ago. It will work fine for adjusting camber, and basically will do the same thing that the G Machine bushing does. The potential problem is that the control arms will probably need to be adjusted to different positions, meaning that bumpsteer will be different from one side to the other, and also that also makes the car slightly out of square.
  16. It seems that they are gone, and I had heard that the guy who ran it died, although I always assumed Malvern was his name. Too bad, they were great to deal with.
  17. Do the bolt holes and the ports actually line up and everything?
