That was what star was trying to tell you. The brokenkitty kit from John's Cars is for the newer style lsx engines it will not work with gen 1/2 engines. The kit is also a good kit with plenty of reputation around here. Before you continue and the administrators slap you on the wrist I suggest you do a thorough search and read the forum stickies on v8 conversions. There is WAY more help then you might imagine already scribed in the forums and hashed out by veteran members who spilled plenty of blood and tears so that we might not traverse their painful mistakes a second time.

Being a nurse I personally am fond of "meconiumblack". That literally has to be the HARDEST Shite to clean up. It's like baked on tar. If babies weren't cute and helpless they'd be s.o.l. on that one.

So hot. I am loving this build. Blends my love of honda engines with the beautiful s30. This car will be a beast. If I didn't have my 280 I would have a stewie.

I would also be interested in seeing the signal stalk you used. -
Pantera FTW! We have a car show monthly here in dallas and a couple always show up. I think you'd be hard pressed to a find a decent condition pantera for 25 though. Could be wrong. If you want to buy a delorean for 15 I'll charge 5 to install the flux capacitor/Mr. Fusion and we'll end this debate with 5k left over.

Stuff like this ^ makes me feel like a dumb closed minded american stereotype. I really need to learn more about foreign cultures and languages.

All sorts of great stuff in the brakes suspension chassis subforum. chassis bracing and framerail replacement has been covered many times in many ways. Whether or not it's needed/necessary depends on the condition of your rails and your intentions for the car. I've read plenty of threads that have v8's with stock rails holding up well under normal driving conditions with 300-350 hp. Granted these individuals didn't see much track time.

Coming from a VW background and having driven a 914 for about 6 months as a daily I say go for the porsche. Love the exotic look of the nsx though. An a 20 year old car that still commanads 25-35k can't be wrong

I know the acting is generally cheesy, and the lines cheesier, but I have to admit I own every one. I've watched each one multiple times too. As a qualifier I'd also like to add I own Bullit, The original gone in 60 seconds and the original Death Race 2000 I just love car movies

the engine is resting against the distributor...
emeraldlion replied to revlis240's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Could you take some wire and snake it through a rear engine/trans bolt hole then up and through one of the bars on the cowl and tighten it up to support it? Only other thing I can think of is to put a bottle jack under rear of engine -
Well, I'm lucky in that I paid cash for the car so there is no gap or lien. I do not have an adjuster assigned as they filed me an "express claim". The shop is responsible for reporting damages to the vehicle and I am dealing with the shop's "quality assurance inspector" not an adjuster/assessor. They have both been made aware of my concerns about the engine and they are aware that there was a knocking noise when they tried to start the engine. I have not authorized ANY repairs to the vehicle thus far. The quality assurance guy left a voicemail stating that I would need to authorize repairs and estimate before they could perform any work to car or engine but initial estimate did not include any statement of engine teardown/inspection and or possible repairs if needed. I told them to authorize I needed a new estimate that reflected such and they waitlisted me while they had another conversation. Let me state that they have both been pretty straightforward thus far and have done a decent job of keeping in touch(although I call them way more than they call me). So I'm not disgruntled or upset YET. I was just putting my ear to the ground to see if anyone had any thoughts/past experience. I do appreciate any help/suggestions. P.S. I would like to add that I will not be posting any specific company name or information until this is resolved. I give an honest answer as to how the situation was handled as a whole, not just whether I was happy with the outcome.

So, thanksgiving morning I had an accident in my '08 SI sedan low miles great condition. I'm fine no one else involved. 8 inches of driveway lip caught me head on and did quite a bit of damage. Body shop is saying that engine cradle was damaged and oil pan had a hole. Car sat for 4 days at wreckers because body shop wasn't open and when shop received car and began teardown the tried to start it. Repair shop told me they heard some knocking and didn't run it long but I know it was run without oil. Body damages are quoted at 11k with labor. The only engine inspection they were planning on doing is to remove and replace oil pan and inspect mains for scorching. Any advice on how to approach the potential engine damage from them running it briefly without oil and the potential implications of the knocking. I so far have "politely" explained that I'm not comfortable authorizing repairs until engine teardown and inspection is included in estimate of those repairs. Anyone dealt with this type of experience before or know exactly what to say to them to portray how important this engine issue is? I have a feeling they don't want to quote any engine work because it's on the cusp of total loss.

Looking for a used 200-4r that's reasonable. If any has one or a line on one please shoot me a pm and I'll give you some contact info. I'm in Dallas, TX so if you're too far it would need to be shipped. Thanks.

Front mount single turbo
emeraldlion replied to emeraldlion's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I was mainly trying to stay the route of simplicity and unit cost. Would rather not pay for two of everything if possible. On another note there have been several posts of members saying if they were going to do it again they would go single turbo instead of twins. I will definitely take your suggestion to mind though, thanks. -
$25,000 nothing to show for on my 280zx
emeraldlion replied to neousmcswim's topic in S130 Series - 280ZX
I agree with John. I don't think pulling the car out and writing off the money spent is yet justified. Try to hold this shop accountable before you do that. You've got a lot of money at stake here and I don't know if losing that is worth having the car done that much sooner, at least not yet. -
I've been searching for ready to go front mount turbo kits that might work well with our z's but haven't seen any. The forum shows a few home grown kits, is this the only way to go for the single turbo? Anyone know decent kit to throw on a 283?

Chris, I'm in northeast dallas,TX. City is Mckinney. I'm a registered nurse obtaining my MBA part time at UTD, suprised to see I'm the first medical person to pipe up. Have loved s30's for years. My dad has always been into cars and would point out different ones when we drove by. We were mostly into volkswagens and still are(my first car being my '62 VW kombi Lucille). He pointed out a 240 one day and said "Your mom always wanted one of those." Hooked ever since. Tony that movie is Black Sheep, and it's on my shelf. Hilarious b-rated horror flick.

78 Datsun 280z ------> 5.3 build
emeraldlion replied to SUNNY Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Great progress josey, wish I was as diligent at photo-documenting my project. I started with best-of-intentions and what not but only have half a dozen photos. Did get the engine ready with swap parts though thanks to your delivery last week! Can't wait to see more. -
In an effort to help your future on the board I'm going to direct you to the search function in the upper right hand corner. It would be glad to answer 90 % of the questions you're going to have for your swap. This board has some extremely knowledgable individuals who have gone through a lot of mental hashing already, it would do them a diservice to ask before searching. JAGSTHATRUN.com Buy the manual great information. Less info on the s130 swap but there is plenty on the board to help.

I second Eric's opinion. I painted my 62 VW van with the ppg Dodge viper red and it is RED. fire engine red. I'll see if I can drum up a digital photo to upload.

Welcome to the site! All of the questions you have asked have been answered a time or two here. The v8 swap is going to be the less difficult of the two especially if you go SBC and use the JTR swap kit. Start with a good minimal rust car and you can have plenty of v8 performance for your budget. Don't forget to factor in some suspension upgrades to handle the performance.

240Z Metal Emblems - when did they go plastic?

I broke both the 280 side emblems and they appeared to be that cheap pot metal stuff. -

emeraldlion replied to 240zip's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
All the emblems on my 78 280 are pot metal. It must be somewhere down the line the repro's became plastic. -
