  1. Looks like a heat-treating problem, maybe? Welcome to the world of racing and the world of after-market parts. Try not to be too pissed about it, it sort of comes with the territory. Upset and disappointed, sure. But not mad. I'm glad it didn't happen at half-track and spin you into the guardrail. Give the supplier a call, I would bet they will replace them for you and will want to do some research on their machine shop. Way to go for enjoying your car fully, not many guys do. Get it fixed and go snap a driveshaft! Don't know if you had any wheel hop, but feel for it and stop the spin/burnout if the wheels start to hop-that's a drivetrain killing situation.
  2. I would think the car would handle ok with a solid axle if you used a stock Mustang 5.0 geometry. They do respectibly in Trans Am roadrace classes.
  3. It's payday. I just ordered 2 pair from Rare Parts.
  4. Does anyone have any experience with the I inner tie rods from Rare Parts?? The first photo is my current tie rods. The second is the picture the inner tie rod style shown on the Rare Parts on-line catalog. Hoping for some input before I plunk down $200 for a pair.
  5. 1971 240z? Perhaps a tail light swap? Or a data plate swap to get around smog?
  6. Be attentive to backfires thru the carbs. If you get ANY backfiring I would get rid of the socks on the velocity stacks-fire hazard. Better to wear out a set of rings early than to burn it to the ground.
  7. It would be wild if somebody could rebuild that car. License plate would say "Widow(er) Maker." But could you ever get the smell out?
  8. Adam Hopkins has had to have hernia surgery and back surgery, thanks to getting his car onto his rotisserie. Hasn't gotten much time on his car. But it's waiting for him if he ever gets well. Be careful.
  9. Put the 280z stubs up for sale in the classifieds-they are worth $50-75. They won't fit your R180.
  10. I used a truck R180 front diff in my 240z a million years ago. I just put new seals in the axle holes on the diff and put the 240z stubs in the truck diff. Didnt leak-no probs. be careful not to over torque the long bolts. I don't recall the spec, but I recall yanking the threads out of one. It's been more than 20 years. Be careful on your first test drive-you will get in trouble fast with the new-found acceleration that a 4:10 diff provides, especially exiting corners. I have a set of crushed wheels and a broken rear hub and airdam to prove it. From the first test drive! You will also be looking for 5th gear a lot, and 6th and 7th. 4:10s kinda suck on the highway.
  11. I bet her husband wanted to build a hybridz, And she said: "Over my dead body!" Then a lightbulb went off.
  12. Wanted NEW inner toe rods. If you have any laying around or a source for me to order, I need some. There seem to be two different styles-see picture for the style I need. I need at least two but will buy more if you have them. Left or right side is fine.
  13. Remove them. I think they would cause your brakes not to release so probably not your pressure problem.
  14. I'd rather have a big front rack.
  15. I don't know how to suggest a solution, but I understand the issue. My 240z has no liners. The other day I ran over something and my tire slung it up into the fender. Now I have two nice little dents with cracked paint from the inside out! Fender liners are nice.
  16. Buy 13" diameter wheels and tires. Then install stock springs. Car will be low and won't rub.
  17. If you plan to drag race, spend $600 and get a good racing driveshaft.
