  1. No, I will hang onto my diffs until I give up on R200s or give up on Z cars-they are just too hard to find. Have you checked on the price of Will's 8.8 kit? If I knew what I know now, Id have put a solid axle in my car from the get-go. But I don't want to put my car down and start over. I've still got some frustration absorbing capacity. Keep cruising eBay for R200s and post wanted ads here. I'm not buying any more, so you needn't worry about me sniping them.
  2. Drop the clutch and do a wheelie over the wide part?
  3. I have not. I think the conflict is with lower radiator hose when using stock water pump. I don't see the lower radiator hose port on yours.... I was looking at the Front Runner after-market accessory setup the other night when I was fantasizing about a turbo build, and your setup looks similar. You trade off narrowing your setup at the cost of lost room between the water pump and the radiator/fans. You might be crowding things in front already(?). Pretty motor.
  4. Michael-Those are big torque numbers! What has been your experience with axle strength? I think you will find that your ae stubs will break (inside the diff) before your wheel flanges will break. From what I have heard, the aluminum 5-lug front hubs push the front wheel offset out toward the fender. You might be ok with skinny front tires. If running wide tires, I would look into having stock 280z hubs re-drilled to try to maintain stock offsets. In the rear, with that kinda torque, you might as well consider a solid axle like an 8.8 or 9".
  5. Borrow a wider trailer or make friends with some who has a roll-back?
  6. The Roadkill Datsun was a total POS-don't use it as a model for your car. Just lurk around this site and you will find a car to model yours after.
  7. Old School. I think more in terms of Best Classic. Your car is amazing!
  8. Places to start: 1. Low voltage-try jump starting it. 2. Bad wiring from switch to starter (I have this problem). My buddy used a jumper wire from the hot wire to the activation wire on the starter. It makes a big arc so be careful to insulate any tools you use. If that kicks the starter over, there's your problem. I'm currently using a jerry-rigged (no offense intended to any of my German friends) push button switch that by-passes the stock switch. It's ghetto (crazy how slurs have thoughtlessly become part of my vocabulary) but it works.
  9. PM SunnyZ. And take a look at his thread: 280z turbo 5.3. I think he works on his shifter location around page 5-7 or so.
  10. I want to clearly state that Rebekah is at Auburn. And has a 4.0. And should learn welding in sculpture class this semester. War Eagle! Sorry to take the thread off subject, but I had to clear the family name.
  11. Get a rainbow bumper sticker and a few "Save the Whales" stickers and maybe even a Obama/Biden sticker to cover the hail dents. Nobody will dare say a thing. Only an idiot would hate on a miata. They are great cars. And will spank my redneck V8 ass at an autocross all day long. Roll Tide!
  12. Just saw your hitch for sale-didnt work out/designed something better?
  13. Finally starting to move on this. Thinking about having the dogleg plasma cut. Does plasma cutting mess up the metallurgy of 4130?
  14. I don't have a single critical comment. The car is great!
  15. Go for it. I was pondering this very subject during the sermon this morning.
  16. Ben280- I have a new car/builder crush going on big-time. You've just about got me motivated to build another car. I'm so sick of the compromises I've made on my car over the years, and you really showed how to do it "right!". I'm planning to really pick your brain in the years to come. JMortensen- We are all eagerly waiting on some updated photos from your long build. Please post them up when you have time. To be close to racing, you must have really been burning the midnight oil if I think back to the last photos I've seen when you were just getting the front bodywork started. We are all cheering you on. Hope raceday goes well for you both. 2016 will be a bad car work year for me due to lots of family stuff with 2 daughters graduating from their respective schools. If I can just get moved into the new shop and do a little car work I will be doing well. Hoping to compete in just one landspeed event in 2016. Lots of sticky race tires in storage getting slick and brittle as we speak. Keith
  17. Do you have a photo buckdt somewhere? I'm a major fan!
