  1. The shop that installed my fuel system explained it to me like this. The vacuum port (if used) would get hooked up to the intake plenum. When there is a rise in vacuum in the intake the FPR will reduce the fuel pressure. They said that the LS1 wants to see constant fuel pressure and it is not needed. I really don't understand this stuff too well but why would you want to drop the fuel pressure? My car seems to run fine without it hooked up.
  2. Scott, My car runs a Walbro 255 and it works fine. I am using an Aeroquip FPR. I have the 75-76 gas tank in my car and I do find when I get down to less then 1/4 tank, it will suck air in a hard corner. Not a big problem unless you will see alot of autocross or track time. A surge tank is a small, additional tank that feeds from your tank and keeps a full supply of fuel at all times. Do a search for Surge tanks. There is plenty of info here on them.
  3. Congrats on the purchase. I am sure you will enjoy it. The gas mileage ratings are pretty good. We get about 24 mpg on the hwy at 70-75 mph with the A/C on. Around town we get around 15-16 with the A/C. and 17-19 without the A/C. The best we have gotten was 27 on the hwy. It gets better mileage when my wife drives it. No surprise there.
  4. Sounds great Vinh, After seeing the 2 daytona kits at the Zvention, I might just have to build one it the future. I remember an old thread about havding the bodies made from yours. DiId you get much interest?
  5. Pretty sure they guys name was Steve Nueman, not Alex but as my daughter would say "Whatever!"
  6. Dennis, I have never had any problems with you. I don't have any now. As I said before, I don't want to get into a pissing match. I just wanted to state that 510s are not fading away fast. I think we should just move past this thead and get back to talking about Z cars. This is a Z car forum.
  7. They are dropping prices on the 07 models because the 08 models are out soon. If you buy an 07 it becomes a 1 year old used vehicle the minute you drive it away. This can be a great way to get a new car and let the dealer take the depreciation. I know the Sienna feels bigger but you can't fit a sheet of 4'x8' drywall in the back of it and you can in the Honda. Check the specs on cargo space and lots of other goodies here: http://tinyurl.com/2zpm68
  8. The murano probably has less interior space then the Subaru they have now.
  9. I want to point out the only negative thing I have found about the Honda. The center row seats do not stow away so if you want to pull them out, you need to store them somewhere. They are a bit heavy too. Not a big problem for me as I have a trailer so I can pick up large items with that but it can be a pain if you like to buy antique furniture at the spur of the moment. Let us know what you both think of the Odyssey. The touring model only seats 7 instead of eight but it has heated seats, 360 watt sound system, run flat tires, parking sensors, backup camera, adjustable pedals, and a few more things I can't remember now. When we finally decided to get a Minivan we knew we would keep it for 10+ years so we bought it new and purchased the 7yr 100K warranty too. It was the 3rd new car we had ever purchased. We mostly buy used too but in 05 the new bodystyle had just been released and we didn't want the old body style.
  10. Sorry Clive but you will either need to come up with five figures or go find your own. That car is about to get a VG30 swap.
  11. Have her drive the Odyssey. We thought the Sienna was Bus like too. The Honda drives so nice, she will love it. Keep the Subaru and park it at the bottom of the drive in the winter. then if she can't make it up the hill, she can jump into the scoobie for the run up the hill. It is nice to have an addditional car around too. She may feel the need to drive something a bit more "sporty" once in a while and it will keep her out of your Z car too. We have 6 cars here that all run great and I can get in any of them, and go anywhere. Well 3 of them are Datsuns (240z and 2 510s) but I have a G35x as the DD and the wife has the Honda Odyessy as the DD and we have and a Mercury Mountaineer AWD as the workhorse.
  12. Come on now. There is still some aftermarket for the 510. Maybe not as much as for the Z car or the roadster but it is still growing. Gasket kits have been made, suspension goodies and even CV axles are also available. Body parts are still being made in fiberglass and there is a company in Canada that is looking into making metal parts now. Companies like Datsport and MadDat in Australia are helping to keep the 510 alive and Techno toy tuning and Datsun Restore are here in the states. Just because a mid engine 215 V8 or and Big Block Chevy is not a good swap into a 510 doesn't mean that an SR20 or a VG30DETT swap is bad. And they have over 200HP. It all depends on your intended purpose for the car. Not everyone is building a track or autocross car. Some just want a decent street car with enough grunt to humiliate the passing Honda or Mustang and that can easily be accomplished with an SR20 or even a VG30 swap. Even if you change the drivetrain or the suspension of the car, it still continues to be a 510. The handling characteristics may change but not everyone feels the same about how the car should handle. No it might not be the fastest through the autocross or take the FTD at the track but I for one like the looks of the 510 and even enjoyed my V8 510 even though it didn't handle like a race car. It was a fun to drive car that got lots of compliments and attention everywhere it went. And I disagree that 510s are fading fast. Just because there is not a "BIG" 510 meet at Shasta anymore doesn't mean that the 510 community is fading away. Our east coast 510 meet continues to grow bigger every year. And lots of younger guys have been joining too. Yes. The Bluebirds list does have a few members that can make it feel cliquish, but the list is such a valuable resource that it is worth dealing with those few people as they have a wealth of information to share about the 510. If you are "the Dennis Hale" that headed up the Shasta event for many years and was a contributing 510 guru for many years on the bluebirds list, thank you for all that you have done to contribute to the 510 community. I know that your vast knowledge has helped make the 510 what it is today. I know that you had a bad experience on the bluebirds list. It seems that your feelings and attitude towards the 510 have changed and I would ask if you would please not spread your now negative feelings toward the future of the 510. I am not saying this to get in a pissing match with you. Some of use are still into the 510. And I for one hope that the fever continues for many years to come.
  13. From reading this message, is your Name Dennis?
  14. My wife's DD is a 2005 Honda Odyssey Touring Edition. Although it is not an AWD, it does great in the snow. I have an 06 G35x with AWD and the Honda can go anywhere I can go. The Honda is a great Family Van. We test drove the Honda, Toyota and the Chrysler minivans and the Honda was by far the better of them all. More space, the best ergonomics, most power, best fuel mileage, regular gas, etc. etc. etc. There must be a reason that Car and Driver continues to name it the best minivan year after year. As for reliability, we have 30,000 miles on ours and it has never had a problem. I have towed with it too and it doesn't even feel like there is a car back there. Before you get hung up on the "I must have an AWD", think about how much you time your wife will really spend driving it in the snow. I can't say enough good things about the Honda. It is just a great Minivan. Drive a Honda, then Decide! D'oh!
  15. So would you go all the way and make it an AWD? I want to hear more about this project idea. I thought it would be cool to use the VQ35 and underpinnings from an AWD G35x.
  16. Hey guys, I own 2 510s and a parts car too. I have always had at least 1 510 since 1987. The 510 is my first love even over my Z car. There is a 510 internet email list known as the Bluebirds List. It is not in a forum setup, it is an email list. We have over 400 members and I usually receive about 10-20 emails a day from it. We get answers to lots of 510 related questions from some serious 510 gurus. Unfortunately the server is down right now and the admin is away for business so you can't subscribe right now. PM me for more info. These are my 2 510s.
  17. Pics of the mount are at the beginning of the thread. I have not posted a picture of the upper bumpstop as I would have to pull the mount from the car to do it. I will be pulling it over the winter as I am having a small leak from the trans rear seal and I need to pull the front diff mount in order to remove the driveshaft. I will post a picture when I do. FYI I have almost 8000 miles on this swap with 4 track days several autocrosses and 2 dragstrip runs and ZERO problems with the diff mount.
  18. Yes. I think your car will always be showing me the tail lights. Well if I add a supercharger then maybe I will have a chance. I did try your harnesses when you gave me a ride at the DIS track day. I just remember your seats being very hard to get in and out of. Climbing over the cage, etc. I don't really remember the harnesses. I think that I would like to find a way to have 3 point belts for everyday use and get some 4 points for track/auto-x events. I would like to be able to have both mounted so I don't have to switch them. Any Ideas? Bummer about the tire. Oh well you were wearing out the rears anyway. What will you replace them with?
  19. Yes. In my opinion, this one is probably the nice street 510 out there. The Yellow Fever car is a work of art but this one is actually a useable car. I wish I could talk the wife into getting it but I would have to sell the Z to do it and this is not going to happen.
  20. They are the same line of Recaros as the seats called Recaro Sportline. This place has them for $1275 each in leather. http://on-trackperformance.com/recaro_sport.htm This is the Recaro Sportline with black vinyl and a suede insert from their site. I paid $700 for the pair. Mine are leather. I think I got a good deal.
  21. I think that most seats mounted in the stock location will sit a bit higher then stock seats. Most modern seats have a thicker lower seat cushion that adds height. I will let you know when I get them in and try them out.
