  1. Gary, Back in 2002 I flew to Michigan to buy a factory restored 240Z car. It was a 1972. (I guess they did a few 72's) It only had 3000 miles on it since it was completed and it was not in the shape it was described to be in. I passed on the car for $17K. Too bad. I think I could have made money on it if I had bought it and held it for a few years. But then I wouldn't have my LS1 240Z and I would nver have enjoyed that resto Z as much.
  2. Thanks for sharing. That is awesome.
  3. When I ordered my stuff from JCI, I started with just the motor mounts and trans mount. Then I ordered the driveshaft and other stuff after I got the motor in the car. That way, I was able to take measurement and pictures to send to John. The trans mount he sent was for a 280Z so I actually had the trans held in place with a piece of rope tied around the bottom of the trans and around a 2x4 laid on top of the trans tunnel. Worked fine.
  4. I have had my LS1 240Z on several road trips. My best mileage was 30.5 MPG. The A/C was off as it was cool out. That was a 450 mile trip. I got 27 MPG in another trip with the A/C running and it rained most of the trip. Oh yeah, I have a heavy foot and tend to travel at about 70-80 MPH on road trips. I bet if I stuck to the speed limit, I could knock down better mileage. My Z car gets the best mileage of all the cars we own. 06 Infiniti G35X 25MPG Hwy 14MPG city 05 Honda Odessey 26MPG Hwy 16MPG city (wifes car) 70 Datsun 510 (stock L16) 22 Hwy 18 city
  5. My Friend Keith in North Carolina built a 280Z with a Maxima Deisel engine. He drove it to the Z convention in Syracuse 2 years ago and got 42MPG that trip. He autocrossed it too. Did quite well with it.

  7. The 510 body is 1/10th scale and has a 210mm wheelbase. Old HPI Nitro chassis should work or the Tamiya M-02, M-03. Just check the wheelbase. You can also cut down a 225mm chassis to fit. The newer Tamiya Mini Cooper Chassis should fit too but it is FWD.
  8. I don't know how I missed this thread but I am the guy that sells the 510 bodies. I am sold out of the clear bodies but still have a few of the white ones. I will offer them to Hybrid Z members for $15.00 plus $7.50 shipping in the Continental US. You will get one white 510 body and one decal sheet. PM me if you want one. See the website for more info: http://www.datsuns.com/510/RC510-body.htm
  9. Lots of 510 guys install 280ZX front struts on their 510s to upgrade the brakes and get a shorter strut and more available choices of inserts. My last 510 had a set of 280ZX front struts. I had to remove the lower spring perch then grind down the area where the weld was and then installed a set of coilovers from Dave Turner Motorsports. I didn't have access to a welder so I bought a set of clamp on collars from Dave turner that the bottom of the threaded collar rests on. Ground control along with some of the eBay cheapy coil over kits will work fine too. (hacksaw or grinder will work) when you see rust in the cut you are through the perch. Don't cut into the tube. then free the perch. All these photos are from a 510 guru (Kelvin) see his entire photo section on strut shortening at: http://www.datsun510.com/photopost/showgallery.php?cat=3098&ppuser=9 If you don't have access to a welder Dave Turner sells a clamp on lower collar that the threaded collors will sit on. Sorry, no photo but i used it for several years with no problems. One nice thing about this is you can adjust the lowest setting while on the car and get the right stance without having to tack it, see if it right, cut the tack, adjsut it again, etc. If you want to go even cheaper, get a set of muffler clamps and throw away the u-bolts and buy some straight bolts and nuts that are long enough to go all the way through them. Before you all start bashing this as unsafe, many 510s and other cars have used this method for many years with track days, autocrosses and street use without failure. If you are worried, don't do it. The Dime Quarterly did a product review of the Dave Turner do it yourself Coilover conversion. The review will soon be available on their website under product reviews. I have the actual article in one of my back issues. It is a well written article and has pics of the set up and also shows the clamp on collar witch is much better looking then a set of muffler clamps. I can fax it to anyone that wants to see it. PM me. Oh yeah, the Dave Turner coil over kit was about $200 for both front struts and about $30 for the clamps.
  10. I am not sure. I don't have any more info. He is the owner of a Nissan dealership in New Brunswick. Pardon my ignorance but i am not sure if that is Canada or maybe Nova Scotia? I told him about Hybrid Z but I don't think he will join us.
  11. So I got a call from the guy that bought this car from me a few years ago. He completely went off on it and turned it into a really nice hybrid Z. It has a 572 BBC in it. Looks like a really nice job. I like the ghost stripes too. Here are the pics:
  12. I think you hit the nail on the head. It seems that my donation ran out and they downsized my album. I will make another donation and try again! Thanks,
  13. I tried to upload some pics to my album but I got a message saying "You are allowed a maximum of 20480000 bytes of diskspace. If you would like to upload more images, please delete some of your older images and/or optimize your images using lower quality jpg settings before uploading." I deleted quite a few pics (20) and am still getting the error message. Here are the stats on the amount of space I am using "Maximum File Size: 20000k file size limit. Disk space allowed on your account: 20,000kb (20,480,000 bytes) Disk space used on your account: 35,179kb (36,023,329 bytes) Disk space remaining for your account: -15179.0kb (-15,543,329 bytes) " I understand that I am now over the limit even after deleting 20 pics. Did the amount of storage space per user ID change? I only have 53 photos is my album. What am I doing wrong? Any way to change the image quality of the pics in my album now to allow more space?
  14. Seems we all have similar stories. JCI products are well designed and make the LS1 swap so much faster and easier then doing it yourself. Motor placement allowing the shifter coming out of the stock location is great. My car looks stock and runs like a Viper. John and Mike can be a bit grumpy on the phone and they do need to learn how to pack a box properly but putting all that aside, the LS1 swap components they make are the best.
  15. Martin, I can't answer your question about the nipples but we ran mine under the fuel rail covers without changing the stock nipples. Looks like this: Let me know what you find out about the nipples. I would like to have mine sit closer to the motor.
