This a quote from PHANTOM. I know you've addressed this before - what mod's did you make to the LS1? Cam, heads, LS6 intake, 90mm TB? My stock LS1 is making just 311 RWHP so I'm curious what will give me another 100+ HP at the rear. Bill AFR 205 Heads (milled .010 to raise compression to 11.1 to 1) TS&P 7.35 Push Rods TS&P Cam 228/228 588/588 112 (deceint idle) Fast 90 intake Fast 90 t.b. (I wouldn't recommend, throttle sticks open by vacuum) I would recommend Holley or Nick Williams Ford Motorsports 36lb injectors JTR 3.5 Cold air intake Turbohoses air filter and velocity stack SLP underdrive pully JTR 1 3/4 Headers 3.0 to 3.5 mandrel stainless exhaust Speed density tuned (no maf sensor) Q45 diff swap w/ moser axles LS7 Clutch (Z06 clutch gave out) Aluminum drive shaft Walbro 255 pump Drag radials 235/60/15 I've given out my secrets......... I can't complain, My Z has been on the road going on 3 years. I do alot of drag racing and do beat the car at the track. No problems!!! In dealing with John and Mike, a pleasure. John took care of my tach for no charge for referring alot of you to them. John did call me a couple of years ago and asked "How my project was coming along." I explained the car has been on the road for about a year and I love it! His reply was mine was the first one that he was aware of that was on the road. (except for phantom). I receintly had another dealing with JCI. I needed timing chain tools for a newer 4.0l v8 Jaguar. (cam and crank holders and chain adjusters). I found that JCI had them in stock for a 3rd or 4th of the price that Jag wanted. And had them to me next the day! I would deal with them again!!! JOEY

My Z is insured by Hagerty. http://www.hagerty.com. Inexpensive, full coverage and no problems. I went through an insurance broker.

English seems a little funny. And...... If he has a "spacious" garage, Why is the pic taken in a car port?

Are starters the same for LS1 and LS2's?
LS1 Z replied to Pop N Wood's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
My Rx-7 (ls2) and my Datsun (ls1) both have the same starter. Joey -
LS guys, here is a dress up option for you
LS1 Z replied to 2003z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Interesting!! What about fuel rail covers for the LS motors? JOEY -
I would say you can just block them off. Reason being, My Z has the stock heater set up, with the heater control valve. With the heater off (control valve shut) Would be the same as blocking the 2 ports on the LS1. I've never had any cooling issues. JOEY

EVILTWIN. With the question of how many runs? Pretty much as many as you want! If Sac on a wednesday night is anything like Infinion on a wadnesday (packed). There is no comparision. I usually get 8-15 runs in on a test and tune! -
Looks Awesome!!!!!!!!!

ULISES Next saturday sounds good to me. My roll bar does nothing for drag racing. Sacramento raceway is very easy going, Nothing compared to Infinion. At Infinion, if you roll an 11.4 w/o a cage, your gone! There was a LS1-RX7 (FC) that ran a 10.1 (spraying). He doesn't have a cage either. Bring a camara, I'm sure we could get some cool vids!!! -
I'm still really excited!! Went up to Sacramento raceway for test and tune. There was probably about 2 dozen cars racing and excellent weather. My first run was an 11.3 @ 119. w/60' of 1.8. Launching the car at 3500. Way to low and the car bogged. Then the rest of the day went like this.... Run 2. 11.1 @ 126.5. w/60' of 1.745. Launched at 4500. Run 3. 11.6 @ 99.77 w/60' of 1.59!! Launched at 5500. (clutch linkage off the pedal broke, couldn't get the car in 4th and coasted through the traps) Run 4. 11.2 @ 126.43 w/ 60' of 1.7 MAS280's runs in my Z........... 11.02 @ 125.74 w/ 60' of 1.62!! Launching the car at the red line 6800!!!! (yes I too thought something is gonna break) 11.28 @ 123.53 w/ 60' of 1.67. (another red line launch) After that I got some more 11.1's and 11.2's Last run of the day...... 10.94 @ 127.06. w/60' of 1.60! Launching the car at 6000. I was running M/T drag radials 235/60/15. The car hooks up excellent. Launching the car from 5-6800 and slipping the clutch, no tire spin. Just a hard push into the seat!!!! And yes ALL MOTOR!!!! I wish somebody had a camara! MAS280, LS1240Z and HEAVYZ are my witnesses!!!! JOEY

O.K. Didn't mean to sound harsh. I pretty much agree with what everybody else said. Pull the motor/trans and engine management harness all together. The wires you will need will still be in the engine bay. My Z is at my shop and I can give you wire colors and locations in the a.m. JOEY

Noob question of the day?!?! I'll be nice. You need to get the JTR book. Here is a link, http://www.jagsthatrun.com/Pages/Datsun_Z_V-8.html Alot of your questions will be answered as well as......... SEARCH! Welcome JOEY

First off congrats!!! Looks like a yellow version of Ulises's. Yes, thats a compliment!!! As for your tach issues. I too had problems with my tach after John's converted it. Make sure it's hooked up properly. Pin 10 (solid white wire) red connector with an LS1 ecu. LS2, not sure, p.m. Mike. There is a small hole in the back of the tach, that you can put a small flat blade screw driver in. Rotate the small rheostat with the motor running and see if your tach comes to life! JOEY

I belive Brian Morrow is alive. I met a guy at a Good Guys car show last year who knows him and worked for him at Scarab back in the day. He said he owns or owned (can't remember) a bunch of vidio stores in the bay area and lives in Black Hawk. I would love to shake his hand and show him my Z. Do you think he has ever seen this website? Look what he started!

New Best Time For Ls1 Z 11.16 @ 123.49
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The tires are M/T drag radials 235/60/15 on a 15x8 centerline wheel. The biggest I can stuff w/o coil overs. I can look for some vids. Most of them were taken by Ulises. JOEY -
Last wednesday was the last night for racing out at Infinion. The weather was very cold and super windy. The wind always blows down the track the oposite way your going! First pass was an 11.79 @121.57 w/60ft of 1.97. 2nd pass was 11.64 @ 121.57 w/60ft of 1.83. I wasn't launching the car hard enough! 3rd pass and my last (kicked out, still no cage) Launched the car at about 4500 and slipped the clutch! r/t .158 60' 1.60 1/8 7.16 mph 98.32 1/4 11.16 mph 123.49!! The car felt great and knew it was a good run. Then it makes me wonder if the weather was good with no head winds.......... Next time! May be Howzdat will chime in. He saw the pass. To bad nobody had got it on vid. JOEY

Thanks for the kind words! I guess you can say my birthday was or has been an ongoing event. Meaning, It started off road racing the RX-7 up in Thunder Hill (2nd time). Then I was off to Vegas for four days for the Sema show. Tail gating at a Niners game (yes they won). Taking the Z out to Infinion for drag racing (new best time, will post in v8 forum). The party was a total surprise. I didn't have a clue. Hats off to my business partner and family for pulling it together. I'm still gonna roll with it a little longer. I have 3 b-day dinner dates coming up! After all you only turn 40 once. I tried to continue to run with the turning 39, but...... Some of you are keeping track!!!! Yes David, I'm a long time Dream Theater fan! They Rock! RacerX, Your right, I have a ton of pix of the Z and the RX-7. I'm gonna load up my empty HybridZ album soon. What part of Daly City do you live in? My parents live in Southern Hills. I went to Panarama for k-4th. Parents got devorced and we moved to a house off South Gate and I went to Thomas Edison for 4th-6th, before moving to Belmont. JOEY

I've seen the car in person, very nice! The builder (John) is a good friend of mine and does very clean work. I'm sure he will chime in. I was also at the track the night it pulled a 10.9. Your right the motor was in John's black FD. And if I remember right MAS280 was driving. I see your point Brett about living in Sac. I've heard of people getting pulled over and getting issued ref tickets! Bummer and........ Your gonna miss her! JOEY

ME AND MY EVIL TWIN ROAD ROAD RACING LS2 AND LS7 RX7'S (pics)
LS1 Z replied to LS1 Z's topic in Non Tech Board
To answer some questions as well as thoughts.. The track was rented out by the Lotus club of northern california. Lots of Lotus's of all years and body styles. Those Elises are cool little cars! The track was also open to anybody else and limited to 165 cars. (small group). There were lots of miatas, 3 Z06 vettes, S2000's, wrx's, evo's, Audis, porsches and so forth. And like going drag racing, everybody was super nice and down to earth! The day started with a drivers meeting, then a beginners meeting. We were then teamed up with an instructor. After that I went for a 20 min session in his lotus and 20 min in the fd. We then went back to the class room for him to show me what I was doing right and wrong. Yes I agree with you guys. I would like to do a track day with full instruction. 40 or soo minutes is alot to take in. Yes those next to the last pics of me are "off track"! I was hauling ass down the longest straight (kinda like going down the 1/4), In 4th gear about to hit my rev limiter (130 something, hooking up speedo today), started to slow and hit 3rd going way too fast and not "blirping" the throttle, rear end locked up and around and around I went! I got black flagged after that. I had to go talk to an official and explain what I did. No biggie! I knew what happened and that's what they wanted to hear. What was cool is I did meet a guy that wants to sponser me with a big brake set up. He has kits for alot of cars but wants to make a kit for the fd. Cool!! As for the set up right now on the car, Megan racing 32 way adjustable coil overs. Alignment specs from Mark (gnx7), that does alot of roadracing, Hawk black pads, MBZ high temp brake fluid, SSR GT7H rims 18x8.5 and 18x9.5 out the rears. Tires are now Nitto Nt-01, 245/35/18 and 275/40/18 out the rears. The stock FD suspension is really good. A few up grades and excellent. I also agree with all your comments. Unlike drag racing, The highest hp car is NOT the quickest car at the track. When I get the hang of the track and some more instruction..... watch out! Another thing I need to add is a harness. With the stock seatbelts, I found myself bracing with arms, hands and elbows. Mike does have a harness I can use until my 6 point cage is done. Last comment I agree with JMORTENSEN on the cost. Saw this on another site and made sence. You can go drag racing for the day and pay 25-75 dollars for anywhere from 3 to 8 or so 11 second passes. The day I went cost me 165. dollars for 7, 20 minute sessions. Do the math! JOEY
