  1. Well your right no bearing for a striaght out swap available. Next option is to machine a sleeve for the smaller OD of the inboard 300z bearing and bore out the ID of the strut housing to fit the OD of the outboard 300Z bearing. Anybody tried this? anybody think it will work/not work? Id really like some input on this because if i try it and it dosnt work ill need some new strut housings ;< thanks guys
  2. im thinking someone out there has to make a bearing with the OD for the s30 and the ID of the z31 for both the inner and outer bearings. If you could find a bearing setup like this, the stub shafts should work which would also allow the use of the z31 cv axles as a bolt in option with r-200???? any comments? Its kinda hard to see in this picture but the bearing surfaces are pretty much in the same area and with everything kinda in place looks like it will work before i go any further has any one tried this ? Ill let you guys know how it goes. If everything goes as planned will have 88 z31 turbo brakes all around and cv axle and newer r-200 from same car ;> In the above pics all the hardware is kinda just laying in the hole and will go in at least and inch or so once everything is pressed
  3. No you cannot use the VG or any other mounts they have to be RB20 Z31 engine mounts, or custom mounts.
  4. It came with the arm.. Dave at arizona z car could tell you exactly where it came from but it almost looks like its a tie rod end from a bigger car.
  5. ok in the final stages now just have to weld and install the struts and get 5 lug wheels ;> heres a pic of how they look
  6. so the z is gonna be harder to steer i also found out the gtr rotors and calipers bolt up to the z31 strut not sure if anyone have ever seen these brakes but they are big
  7. if i remeber from my rc car racing days the way the caster is will make the car a little more twitchy or more sensitive to steering inputs ?
  8. ok heres a pic of the strut cut and ready to weld. it will be the same length as the s30 strut
  9. Actually it looks like it does what effect will this have? Will it be bad for drag racing? I was looking at it like a the cheapest brake upgrade ever.
  10. well didnt need a different ball joint after all just needed to shim mine to fit the z31 steering knuckle The only amount of work ive done that was hard was cutting the struts. measured and re measured before i cut them and did the cutting with one of those tubing cutters the muffler shops use to cut the tailpipes ( worked but very slow ) this pic is of my old strut with the coilover removed and the z31 strut cut and almost ready to weld. i will cut my old (s30) strut and weld the piece so the z31 strut new length will equal the s30 old length. I will be able to use teh s30 coilover i was using before
  11. damn that song kinda sticks on ya. check it out ;>
  12. I'm hearing they are good for high HP applications, no names or locations yet just curious if anyone has seen them. Very High dollar ;<
  13. doug what year z31 did you get the cv axles out of? and if it was an 88 how did you adapt them?
  14. some pics So far only hitches are ball joint dosnt fit and strut housing is too short for the s30 Koni struts i have. I also had to swap steering knuckles from the z31 ( this is why the ball joint is too small) .
  15. yes any japan spec z31 with rb20det int it
  16. read this thread for more info just insert rb 30 fro rb25 ;>
  17. it will bolt in with the right stuff do a search on rb eng swaps
  18. Oh yea i also aquired the entire rear end from the same car hub to hub.
  19. Ok i tried the search and came up empty on this so i had to ask. I have a left and right 88 300z turbo struts in my garage. i still have to go get the steering knuckles and ball joints. but before i do this has anyone ever tried to convert the entire strut over to a 260-280? the top half looks pretty easy. takes the same strut cartridge, and is the same length. just have to cut off the perch for coilovers. the bottem half looked like it would bolt up to the 260 knuckle but was a bit larger. Im Hoping the ball joints between the 300z and 260 are the same size and i can just swap the knuckles around. one thing i saw is if it does work i will have to reverse the sides of the knuckles because the rack is on the backside of the engine member. So .... is it gonna work or am i retracing 1000s of others footprints on this. thanks
  20. ok here you go... get z31 engine mounts, z31 rb20 oil pan and sump and it will bolt in... if the rb30 is coming out of car with rear sump then your good '>
  21. the rb20det from the z31 in japan did not need to be modified it is a rear sump. you just take the oil pan and pickup from that motor and bolt it on the rb25 ;>
  22. RB25 block bolts up to the rb20 Z31 oil pan and oil pickup with no alterations. the rb30 block is the same as all rbs and you can use the Z31 rb20 engine mounts. but since the rb30 is taller differnt mounts would more then likely be needed since the rb 26 barely clears the hood itself
  23. Ive been getting alot of how to emails ... i thought id revive this post ;>
  24. oops i didnt mean street racing i meant road racing ;>
