  1. that's why I've only ever dealt with dry shot nos. It's alot easier to manage, just not as much power potential.
  2. why shouldn't a solid rear axle do well in the turns? I've seen several solid rear axles set up well that handle better than most stock IRS systems. IRS is just easier to set up well from what i'm told. Factory fives are a great example. Thier IRS package handles great out of the box and is very comftorble on the street, but everyone who races them using FF's 3 link rear suspention.
  3. They make it easier to meat saftey requirments. It leaves more room for crumple zones. Look at the new miata. Most of the engineering changes are centered around safety requiremts, performance second. Now, if there's ever been a great V8 car outside the US it's the 77' aston martin vantage. Very awsome car, and a engine noise to die for, carbed of course. Is toyota still planning on an iron block V8? That's what they were saying WAY back when. Personally, I'd rather see more 4 banger AWD cars. Most new cars are out there getting spanked by evos and stis because they've been desinged to be the perfect breed between practicallity and power. The 350Z look heavy by comparison to these 4 doors. And out of japan they're still some of the most powerful cars. Although the new NSX sounds promising. And honestly, if Ford made a car exactly like an Evo it would cost 50k easy. Sure, an evo or sti might not have great top end ability, but you don't see them taking much heed about that at the track. I'm waiting for nissan to make a skyline that leaves these cars in the dust. The previous AWD system worked, but it wasn't better than the sti or evo system. All it did was give the skyline an advantage over non AWD cars. Honestly though. I don't mind V6 motors. The NSX does fine with one and it'll beat alot of supercars in slaloms. Personally, I think the japanese are just smart. A V8's weight it hard to manage. Sure, a SBC or SBF isn't all that heavy. But look at modern V8's by comparison to old V8 motors. They're much larger and heavier, and require alot more to be put into the engine bay. It's fine for a go straight car, fun car, or cruise car, but there's a very specific formula to make it work. The vette does it perfectly. It puts tons of the weight reward with a rear transaxle, the engine sits way back, and the stance is WIDE with lots of rubber under the car. Is there a single japanese car that fits that description? The nsx isn't really of the same idea. The nsx is mostly aluminium and sheds weight as much as possible. The vette is still very much a cruising car. The japanese understand thier market and thier market doesn't need a V8 sports car. Simple as that.
  4. I wouldn't put my money on that just yet. The evo componets are expensive, and the cars are put together abroad. Don't get me wrong, I love the evo AWD, i think it's the fastest on the market (note, that doesn't mean funnest) but I don't think they could hit a price range they want with it. Well, congrats on the SRT-4. I've seen people put down over 300hp to the wheels on carb legal parts, so there potential in the motor to doubt. Let us know how it understeers. I've heard good and bad things about it. And most importantly, how connected do you feel to the car. Feedback, steering weight, and other things of the like.
  5. I know they're a tad more expensive, but the standard WRX isn't a bad car. New body stlye in 06 wich should be hitting the dealer floor soon. So you could get a new 06 or talk down a sweet deal on an 05 they're trying to get rid of. Only problem I could see is that the 5 speed needs to be babied. They're notorious for grinding if you beat on them. WRX gets 20/26 wich isn't great, but it also isn't bad for AWD with a 2.5 turbo 4 banger. I bet you could get the price down to 23k out the door with maintainence included. But, you could also get an SRT for 20K out the door no problem. And the real beuty is that because it's AWD you only have to do the idle test for smog so they can't test for NOx, so you can get away with more Just my .000000000002 cents. Hope all goes well for ya man.
  6. WOW... Now there's the difference between stunt bike drivers and stunt car drivers.... I'm still in shock. But man was that funny.
  7. dude, as always you're so awsome at showing me I'm stupid I was just searching for the last 20 minutes for a thred like this. You need to sit down and not make me look so bad aux...
  8. Ok, I KNOW there are tons of us Z owners here who are located in the SF bay area. And I KNOW there are tons of easy coast Z owners too. So why don't we have any form of contacting eachother about events and such? I know I could just go find some Z club locally, but that just sounds dumb. I stick around hybridz for the atmosphere, and that's why I'd love to go to events with other hybridz members. So, any ideas anyone?
  9. At first i was like "S13? Who's on drugs here? There ain't no S13 here." Then i was like like "Dang, apparently whoever made that car was the one on drugs." Gotta have at least some decent fabbin' skills for that, but still, doesn't make it right. That's like the EG civic hatch that I saw with the modern mustanh headlights, tail lights, side scoops, hood, ect. It's just wrong in so many ways But hey, if he's going for comical i guess it's fine.
  10. I'd make a single piece that has cut outs for the floorpan area, so it would stay as high as possible but still cover the tranny tunnel. I think it's a good idea to cover the tranny tunnel because a well mounted cover for the tranny tunnel means no driveshaft catch required, so extra saftey with less weight than the alternative. I'd also do some major research into undercarriage design tech first. You could seriously improve your arodynamics or totally kill it. I know many supercars wouln't really drive well at hight speeds without them because they help balance the lift coefficiancy so much.
  11. black is THE hardest color to paint, did anyone tell you this before hand? Well, if all the touchup work goes well props out too ya man. I've done enough painting to know my first real paint job won't be black, it's just SO much harder. And from what the pics show, the paint does look pretty darn good, keep up the DIY passion.
  12. such a universal truth. Did you want royalties on that quote? Cuz i'm gonna use it.
  13. I know there ARE s30 drift cars out there, but I have yet to hear about any in the formula D circut here in the US. And if there are any in the next decade or so I'd be it would be a privateer car, since most companies wouldn't want to sponsor a car like that and most shops wouldn't want to start with a car like that.
  14. did you only read my first post in this thred and then post? I conceeded that I could understand the V8 route but just said I much prefer the rotary in the FC (and other light cars wink wink miata). If cost is the issue, then yes, the rotary IS more expensive and cost more to sustain due to frequent rebuilds. And actually I think a V8 is a much better partner to a Z then a FC, because many V8s are lighter than the L series motors. Honestly, I feel like i've dug a whole for myself. I have nothing agaist V8 motors, but yet I find this feeling in my gut that I can't explain that would never let me put one in a RX7. I don't know what it is, if I knew what it was I would tell you. Maybe it's the same reason that I couldn't ever put a V8 in skyline. Sure, there are V8s with as much potential as the RB motors, but there is just something about what the car stands for I couldn't touch. But, that's WHY we're all different. I was wrong to shoot down the idea SO harshly. I should have just stated that it was a different idea that I'd never thought of and probly would never do. So, in spirit of good hybridizing, more power to ya man! Just one question, are you getting better gas milage than before? Because I know the FC cars where known for poor gas milage to begin with. A good V8 might be able to put down double the power on the same gas amount. That's a neat concept.
  15. you guys are so mean... but i did have a good laugh. But they speak truth in that you should search. I havn't actually searched much on L28 tech but I've seen enough threds go by that now I know the L28's potential. But I'm not going to say anything more than that, so you can research it yourself, or just stick around a while like I did.
  16. in the FC chassis the rotary sits kinda foward, if you modified the car a bit to put the V8 farther back, you might get a nice wieght distro. Also, the tranny for the 13B is kinda light, the larger tranny for the LS1 could also bring the weight not only back, but down. There's always ways to improve, but I could make many of the same statements about putting a FD 13B-REW into a FC. Now, on3go, you hit the nail on the head, emissions. The rotary burns oil, period. This means death in the US and death in the US could mean overall death to it in the world. Mazda needs to hurry up and make a rotary bike that competes with the fastest bikes on the planet. That would alow them to keep working on the rotary design and build a more "no compromise" rotary. Mazda needs to get thier butts in gear, the rotary has a long way to go if they want to keep it as a viable motor in the future market.
  17. see, you guys could have the two fastest supras in town Then you could write an anime about it. (purely for joke purposes, didn't mean to knock you at all)
  18. You can ruin a 5.0 block at 500HP, but I've also seen plenty of 700+HP 5.0 motors. There's just alot more work to be done. If you're looking for HUGE power, then the 5.0 motor isn't the greatest idea. But from what you've said you want I think the 5.0 is the way to go. Personally, I'd say go with a brand new block because the GT40 parts are much better and much more reliable. Plus the efi won't give you so much grief. And the best part about these motors is that power adders are widely prduced and well priced, so if the stock power isn't enough there's plenty of routes to go until you hit the 450HP range. Then you start looking at some serious costs, weather to get the 5.0 higher, or to put a different motor in entirelly.
  19. or make good friends with someone who DOES know what they're doing.
  20. Like i said, I have nothing against V8s. And I like the fact that there are people like you on3go who are willing to stand up for them from a purely technical standpoint. And now that I think about i see your point about working on a rotary, and it's a darn fine point if I may say so. I just feel too many people shoot down the rotary, is a motor with tons of potencial, but as you say, only if you know what you're doing with it. So I conceed, I was a bit harsh. But I still stand by my point, just not with such a negative view on the V8 swap.
  21. LOL, yea... i'm a fed Well, when your friend's dog gets killed becuase the cops 'thought' he was dealing drugs you might have a different look on some things. Anyone who's ever had a car stolen knows what it's like that split second before you see your car in your parking spot. It's the same idea, I've known TOO MANY PEOPLE who have gotten busted for stuff the did or didn't do. The truth of it is that I hate the political side of california. They're 100% about legistlating 100% of everyone's life. They want more and more control to "better OUR lives". Talk about BS. If I were in any other state I'd be working on something that would probly land me a big fat ticket in CA, but in this dumb state you get fined $500 a cast for being caught without a fishing license. Honestly though, I don't making comments about what's legal/illegal beucase I want people to fallow the rules, I just want people to know the rules before they break them. I've done my fair share of illegal things, many of them involving computers, and I'm of the belief if you can't see the line to bend, why bend it? Half the fun of doing something illegal is the thought that if you got caught you could really test the knowledge of 'the man', like taking a true 15MPH turn at 30 becuase the speed limit is 35 and someone seems to have torn the 15mph turn sign down, figures eh? So like I said, just make sure you people know what rules you're breaking before you break them, because that's the first step in avoiding being caught. PS That would be funny if I WAS a fed eh? Well, rest at ease, i'm too young to work for the government. In fact, only 2 months ago I couldn't aply for a job at guitar center...
  22. V8 RX7? Honestly, that's just discusting. I have nothing agaist V8s, but the rotary is pretty close to the best power/weight you can get for a motor. There are plenty of guys out there with 400+hp with 13B-REW motors and do you really think you need more in such a little car? although i must say, that IS one NICE look.
  23. Dude, your lines are sexy. Must have some hot influence I personally like the idea of finding a windshield close to spec and chopping to it, but i'm really interesting to here how this glass replacement works out. If it's nice stuff you could use it for all your glass, not just the windshield. I'm also REALLY interested to see what else you've got planed. I could see alot of different directions for this car's body to go.
  24. ???? Around here it does. When I see bone stock imports with obviously not so stock exhast that is actually QUIET I raise my eyebrow... because that person might actually know something about modification. Just about 90% of hondas around here have aftermarket exhast. ... ever think about the old supras?!?! That would be awsome. Nobody even thinks about them as being fast. They come with inline 6 motors too! And (depending on your area) if you left it stock looking it might blend in perfectly. But you could quickly become the "don't race a stock looking supra" story. The main issue I have with this whole thing, is that people here go after sandbaggers if there's money invested, and some times even when money isn't an issue. And in an area where your neighbors that have been friends for years kill eachother, I don't want to think about pissing some jerk off because he thought his (enter common car) would beat me.
  25. Hmm, I think I struck a chord, and I think it was a C#m13... Seriously though, the day I find a woman that can tell me what SCSI stands for, knows the difference between 4 flats and 4 sharps, and isn't afraid of getting sideways in a car I'm proposing. But alas, I'm too young to think of such things. I've got too many things on my plate as it is. But I DO vote that braap's post should be posted as a sticky. EDIT: Do I even have a vote? I tend to think I don't have any power on this site... but maybe I do...
