Theory question: Larger turbo = more reliability?

What do you mean "way off the map" I'm kinda confused with the meaning of the map in the first place -
Yea, through Arizona Z car or thru, MJP the website that the picture is associated with. Heres the URL http://www.mjpauto.com/280zx.html MJP Well maybe not Arizona Car, since rumor has it that they do not make body panels any more. But is the website none the less. You could call Dave and ask him if he still makes the parts. http://www.arizonazcar.com and here is a picture of Kaminari body kit, not sure if it is still available either, never looked into it.

Theory question: Larger turbo = more reliability?
Drftn280zxt replied to Kazuya1274's topic in Turbo / Supercharger
is that because the bigger turbo is pressurizing a larger volume of air than the small turbo? I guess the reasoning your guys are aiming for is have the turbo spin at lower rpm to create the same amount for greater reliability in the turbo, not necessary the motor, correct? Because one way you have a turbo spinning at high rpm and engine rpm is low, and the other is a low rpm spinning turbo with high rpm spinning engine. So I guess there really is not a win win situation unless you can find a combo that offers a turbo that spools at moderate rpm while engine rpm is moderate, say like 4k rpm (engine) rather than big turbo at 5k+ engine rpm. Is this what you are aiming to explain. Of course I guess you could build the engine to "live" at high rpm so that you could a large "slow" spinning turbo. Plus if it is spinning slower temperatures wouldn't be as extreme as they are in the smaller high rpm turbo, correct? But I don't think many people by a bigger turbo for more reliability, they buy them to run more boost at probably the same or higher rpm (turbo rpm) as the small turbo was running. Very interesting thought though -
Wow,that does look really good. Props for all the hard work. Only a true Z car fanatic would notice or consider a small detail like that. It makes a big "small" difference. Gotta love fooses style ehh

drag racing is much of concern, don't need top end speed. I need torque. I do plan on going twin turbo someday. But I am planning on getting the LSD next summer (Leith )just trying to figure out waht gears to use. From what I've read my 82 280ZX Turbo should have 3.54 gears, correct? I would think that low end torque would be very desirable it get the rear tires loose. And if I can eventually do the 17x12 in the rear, I think so good low end torque is going to be necessary to break the rear loose. And since at low rpm, there isn't any boost yet, whatever can help in the torque domain would seem very appropriate. So maybe 3.9 or 4.11. I don't know, please give me more input and suggestions. Thanks for the help so far. Its starting to make more sense.

I been reading around, and searching and have found that many different differential gear ratios are were available in R200. My question is, is it better to have a low gear ratio, or high gear ratio for drifting/roadracing. What would be a good ratio. To put it simply I read all those number and have no idea what they mean. Please fill me in, I feal dumb not knowing the meaning of gear ratios, but better late than never. The only thing I got out of my reading is that a low/low gear ratio is excellent for drag racing, unless my memory is failing me, quite possible.

I say go S130, but like everyone else I am biased, I own my second 280zx right now. Plus I always found the Z31 frowned on, plus I never have really liked them, I like to see more of what can be done for the S130. Not enough people play with them, hence reason for curiosity. Of course S130 are frowned on for have a slightly inferior suspension in the rear with the semi-trailing arms, and it curse of acceleration squat. I think the S130 would be a more fun project IMO.

Theory question: Larger turbo = more reliability?

but if I'm not mistaken if you had two cars making 350hp and one had a smaller turbo and the other a larger one. Wouldn't the car with the larger turbo take longer to build boost? Higher engine rpms. Or am I mistaken. I alwats thought, little turbo, spools faster, builds boost early, low rpm. Big turbo, spools slower, builds boost later, high rpm. Fill me in if I'm wrong. You guys are making it sounds like making 15 psi in a little turbo will take longer then when the bigger turbo. For example, little turbo 15psi @3000rpm, big turbo 15psi @2000rpm, that how you guys are making it sound, is that right or wrong? -
Does Nismo make a three inch downpipe for turboed S130's. I have three exhuast from the downpipe back, from what I've heard enlarging the downpipe as well is beneficial.

WOW this would help with making headers or cages....

Just finished My first paint Job!! *pics*
Drftn280zxt replied to 240hoke's topic in Body Kits & Paint
geez Austin, you make me feel pathetic. Of course I'd probably work more on my own car, if I had another car to drive around, and free time, and money, all of which you seem to have. Great job on the paint. I'd like to learn body work someday, but time is an issue. -
very nice. Now that you mentioned orange peel , I hate to admit it but a lot of the brand new cars we get in at my Nissan dealership are cars that are one big orange peel what a shame, unless Nissan is aiming for textured paint LOL. Excellent Job, looks awesome, pat yourself on the back you deserve it, that takes a lot of committment. It also shows just how much you love your car and Zcars in general! Face it there is no escaping the "Z curse" now, you'll have one forever, congrats!
-
its all been said, very nice. But I think it could sit lower (just kidding) Almost perfect! Pat yourself on the back, it was worth it

its almost like the rear bumper does not come down far enough to balance with the large taillights. I with DavyZ in the over critical pool. I still like it, but it could be better No one is perfect though, and a design is never complete I'm sure BlueOvalZ look at his 240Z and says "shoot, I should've done that" often times after seeing what other people have done. i sure it looks much prettier in person though
-
Very clean look, I like it it. I knew that flush fit would look good on the back Now I'm jealous, here I've got these great design ideas and yet can't do anything until I'm finished with school
-
did it have a valley in the rear lip. Because one on my Z does and I 'm not sure if mine is a ZXR wing. Here's the ZXR wing and another I don't have a ZXR in case your wondering.
-
thats for sure, nice color pick, I like it.
-
looks great. Is that a gloss paint, metallic paint, or pearlescent paint? Looks awesome from a distance, I wish the body on my Z was that straight, I have to wonder how much bondo is hiding under my paint because it has lot of high and low spots and waves in the door

Why are there no CF hoods or parts for s130's?
Drftn280zxt replied to frank280zx's topic in Body Kits & Paint
I guess they kinda look simialar, that a sweet car by the way. A lot better looking that the last TVR wit the triple decker headlights, ewww yuck. -

Drftn280zxt replied to frank280zx's topic in Body Kits & Paint
thanks for the compliments ! I figure the lower vents on the hood and the larger intake opening ibn the front fascia would allow for much better cooling efficiency for turbos, radiator, engine, intercooler and oil cooler. Plus the triple cowls on each side of the hood would allow heat to escape efficiently as well. Mario_82_ZXT how do my drawing remind you of the TVR I don;t see any similarities at all :-? -

Drftn280zxt replied to frank280zx's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Well, any opinions. Oh yeah there is a guy here in town that will make custom carbon fibre parts for cars. Whether its oe replacement or widebody custom, does not matter. I have yet to discover if he makes his parts my hand laying the carbon or if he does it with vacuum packing. He quoted my co-worker about 300-400 bucks for a carbon trunk for his Evolution, that is with all the same latching mechanisms too, no racing pins! I thought about considering him, assuming he still around, years down the road for my widebody ideas. Carbon would be sweet plus it would save a lot of weight, especially on the hood, those OE hoods are heavier than he#$! -
and the sideskirts don't match at all. I'm surprised this guy did not add a rear valance to finish off his ensemble I don't understand how he even mounted that wing on his car either way that wing is a

I've been wondering the same thing except for a 280zx, steering wheel is too large. From what I have been told anywhere from 13" to 14" inches is good. 13.5 seems like a possibly ideal size. I think I'll just end up going to pep boys and holding a 13/14" wheel and seeing what seems most comfortable size ways.

Go to this link and look at these wide body parts! There are like stretched oe panels, I bet they look pretty go especially in the front. http://www.showcars-bodyparts.com/280zx.html Just something I came across looking for Kaminari ZX pics.
