  1. I have misplaced my Haynes manual and have been looking for it for weeks now. And I just finished reading through about 50 pages of posts that were helpful, but didn't quite state what I was looking for. I need to know what the stock fuel pressure is, and the stock timing. I plan to start there, and tune from there, because I have thrown all the variables out of whack.
  2. does your Ignition control module work? If not you can use a I/c from a 77' corvette.
  3. My EGR is blocked off anyway, its not a big deal to me, I just like the thought of not having it, it clutters the engine bay. And I like how the non EGR one just has the intake runners and nothing else. Well, with tuning, I have managed to screw the car up more, now it lacks power and acceleration, so I'm gonna set everything to stock settings and start from there.
  4. turbo project is gonna be put on hold for awhile. I'm about to buy a header, and try and find a non-egr intake and start from there. Probly gonna go stand-alone and figure out all these problems and such.
  5. did make a very noticeable diffrence, I don't have to slip the clutch as much to move the car. Now I just gotta adjust the timing and Fuel pressure a bit more.
  6. With no exhaust, I can't run it this late at nite, I tend not to before the hours of about 9 am, and I won't start it after about 8:30pm. Gotta wait till morning.
  7. I checked the rubber hose for cracks and holes, and tested for vaccum leaks with propane. Today I did verify that my Air Temp sensor in the AFM is bad, and I replaced it with the one from the Turbo AFM, everything else seems like its working right in the AFM-does this even sound possible? That the AFM is ok, but the Air-temp sensor is bad? Could this cause the motor to run crappy?
  8. wouldn't it be somewhat obvious though that my timing chain slipped a gear-wouldn't my compression somewhat suffer? Its at 150 across the board.
  9. Maybe your Fuel pressure regulator is crapping out, I've gone through about 5 within 1 280z and a 280zx, so it may be similar with a 300zx. I now have a mallory adjustable FPR.
  10. I did see a nissan diesel at work the other day, but it was a work truck type thing, not a regular truck-big rig
  11. I do actually have an extra AFM, but its a turbo piece-so I need to get an adapter of some sort to get it to fit. There is no leak, just because I have replaced the hose with a new piece, and nothing. Would cam timing cause it to run perfect without load, but cause the motor to goto crap once put under load? Actually, now that I think of it, it runs the exact same without the AFM conneted, so it may be a bad AFM, or connection.
  12. Mystery cam, it may be stock or aftermarket, not quite sure-its got red painting to it, and I haven't seen that on any of my other Z cams. Well, took off the j-pipe and ran it as an N/a a few minuts ago and still runs the exact same. Just in case someone throws out that the motor is bad. I did a compression test the other day, and came up with 150psi across the board. With a low of 148psi and a high of 153psi-so the motor isn't shot. Could this be as dumb as a sensor?
  13. I saw that remark as being odd too, but after thinkin of it, it doesn't seem like he meant that you'd need to take the L28 out, and put in a V8 or something. I think he was getting at, N/a bolt-ons won't get him over 200hp, or atleast very easily, maybe more of a get another L28 and build it with high compression pistons, stroke.....ect
  14. I've been having a few problems on my N/a Turbo setup and I think i have a possible solution. I had a thread a few weeks back about a possible "mild" cam. I paid it no mind, and went along with the N/a-T project. Now I notice theres a nice little loppey idle and the car shakes nicely at idle. When I revv it the car revvs nicely just the same, but if I put it in gear, it all goes to crap. It really doesn't wanna go anywhere at all once in gear-I have to feather the clutch just to get it to move, and once driving it is a horrible experiance-it sounds like crap, and won't even hit the speed limit within 10-20 seconds. My possible solution is, could this cam cause some overlap which underload will cause the metered air to be blown out the exhaust and causing it to run wrong?
  15. I'm right outside of richmond, and I tend to see these alot. Big rims aren't for Z's, but I like how some cars look with some monster wheels.
  16. It really depends on the location in which its seen I suppose. My marketing teacher once told us of a time that some beer company(I think it was -anhouser-busch(sp?)) decided to try and become a big beer name in brazil. Well, they just decided to have a guy holding up a beer mug in his right hand. Well, they lost all the money they invested because nobody wanted the "gay beer" Turns out that holding a beer upright in your right hand in brazil means the same thing as "I'm a homosexual and ready for action" true story, look it up. Bad marketing I suppose.
  17. You my freind, are absolutly right. I like to poweslide, because the truck probly had like 100hp to begin with, and powersliding was about all you could do, unless you were goin like 70 in it, which was horrible to even corner in. I too hate the drift scene, mostly because of riceness. If you don't have an AE86 or 240sx(silvia or 180sx clone) your frowned upon as being an amature drifter and probly suck at it too, just because its not riced out enough. People think it has to be an AE86 or silvia to drift. But the last event I went to the RX7's and BMWs were kickin a$$.
  18. At work we use methonal to make washer fluid at work, we get it at $2 a gallon, and the boss lets us buy it from him for the same price.
  19. I'm with you all the way, I love drifting, I'm not into the whole FWD fake-type drifting, but the real thing. So people with a 500hp viper can't slide around a corner, or anyone in there high-horsepower car can't slide either? It tends to happen, why not have fun doing it? I used to put my 4-banger truck sideways all the time, and it is one of the most fun things I can think of, drag racing and autox can't touch the adrenaline rush when your not sure if your gonna spin out or slide. I plan on taking my Z to some drift meets, once its back on the road.
  20. this sounds like a great idea, I may very well do that. But I'll have to look into it, because my county doesn't use caprices, and idk if they have in the earlier 90s
  21. well, a guy I work with has an 84 buick regal with a 200R4, and he put a 307 in it a while back. He said I could have the motor, and I could buy the trans for 100, it runs and drives great, but it burns some oil-I don't care about it burning oil really, so I think I'm gonna get it to tie me over. He actually said that may not be burning it in the motor, but leaking from the oil sending unit, and causing it to burn on the manifolds or something. Whatever I end up putting in it is gonna be better off then the motor thats bringing the car nowhere now.
  22. I have the same exact problem on my car, but have niether the patience or want to even put in the time to diagnose that motor. Does it have a problem with bogging while getting off the line, and you have to barely engadge the clutch to move-like slip it REALLY BAD.
  23. As some of you may know, I've pretty much givin up on my N/a-t project, although somewhat successful, I'm having little issues(nothing major) but all of those issues on top of the fact that I have 161K on the motor, it seems like overkill to put anymore money into it. So I plan on going with a V8. Most of the problems I'm facing are just the fact that the car is a turbo car, which in fact, before the turbo, it ran fine. I do not wanna mess with the motor, or buy new gaskets or anything. So my plan is to disconnect the J pipe and run the afm off the throttle body like stock, but keep the turbo bolted up as is. I only need to drive about 20-30 miles if that, to get to the place where I will do the swap. Do you guys think this will be fine, or will something really bad happen.
  24. I can't stand auto-zone, but my local advance is more then helpful, because most of the guys are old hotrodders and such, I've never had a problem with them. As for MSA, they seemed really good to me.
