The Corvette type accessory setup will not fit on a Z car because it is too wide. I don't have my JTR manual handy, but I believe this is discussed in it. The Bowers setup relocates the compressor to the upper outside on the driver's side, but not as far out as it would be if you used the Corvette accessory system (which I believe puts the compressor on the passenger's side). I talked with Zoop and a few other's as well and none of them would fit the Z. The only solutions I've found are the Bowers setup or fabricating your own. With John's SBC kit you may have a little more clearance to the shock towers and less clearance vertically. This is because the engine is farther forward and this would probably help move the compressor bracket away from the shock tower and closer to the hood (I don't know if John's setup has the engine itself higher, lower, or at the same height of the JTR setup).

Still a work in progress, but getting close (I'm going to replace the carpet dash topper with a molded dash cover one of these days):

What do you guys think of these rims on a Z?
Bartman replied to FJ 280z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I think the width of the wheels are just inbetween what you would use to fit under stock fenders and what you would use with ZG flares. I think you could go with a wider rim if you wnat to go the flares route. It may be a little too wide, but if it could fit under stock fenders then it may be worth it. I think a staggered setup would be a good way to get more meat on the back of a stock fendered Z without having to worry about being too wide on the front. They have some 240SX staggered wheel auctions on eBay that I've been wondering about. Is it possible to fit a 9" wide wheel under stock fenders? -

I don't know if they would look good on a Z or not. Here's the listing: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-18-X-9-RUNS-WHEELS-5-LUG-4-LUG_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ43958QQihZ014QQitemZ330089341192QQrdZ1 The offsets are +43 on both sizes. I would think you'd be looking at a pretty wide adapter to make it fit. Do you think you could get them to fit under stock fenders? -
Maybe you posted this already and I missed it, but have you altered the wheelbase on your big tire car? It looks like there's a little more area on the fender between the wheel opening and the door. It also looks like there may be a liittle more in front of the wheel opening as well with the hood dropping down a little lower than stock. Was the fiberglass front end custom made? Or maybe I'm seeing something that isn't there?

I'm not sure how they come up with those numbers, and it is hard to believe you can get that without any work to the heads. This wouldn't be something for me, as I should have well over the claimed horsepower in my current setup than what they are claiming with this one. My heads have stage IV porting, including a fully upgraded top end. I was planning on putting my car on the dyno, but my Opti broke on me just before my appointment. Everything is working great now, so I just need to make another appointment so I'll know where I'm at.

I saw an add in my latest issue of Hot Rod for a "PERFECT HI-RPM Kit for LT1". The package consists of an ECM, wiring harness and cam and it claims tht you get 365 HP and over 360 ft/lbs of Torque on an otherwise stock engine. That's quite a gain for just these items. I looked at the Painless Performance web site and I found it, but it doesn't list a price. It's part number 65205

It looks good and I totally agree about just having an aridam making the car look unbalanced. I've got the Kaminari side skirts on order from MSA and I'm hoping it will look good with the Kaminari front air dam I already installed.

Thanks for the compliment on my engine, hopefully the exterior will match soon. My compressor mount is from Bowers http://www.bowersrodshop.com/info_pulley.htm The stock Z28 LT1 compressor will not fit in it's original location.

I don't know how much they charge for an install, but I think purchasing everything and installing it myself was somewhere around $1200 total. This includes compressor, condensor, evaporator, all lines and fittings, control panel, dryer, etc.

I don't know if you found my old thread, but I integrated 260Z style retractable shouder belts onto my 240Z. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=102085

Vintage Air and Hot Rod Air are the two main players. The prices may seem high, but I think it's actually pretty resonable for what you get. As noted above, getting components that are meant to work together is a big plus. Although I purchased all my components from Vintage Air, mine is definitely a DIY solution. The only thing I had done was the fittings crimped on to the hoses and then the system leak tested, oiled and charged.

Did you contact the seller? From the verbiage in the pic you attached it states that it comes with wheel adapters and fits 70-85 Z&ZX. Look at this thread if you haven't already: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=118865 There's a group buy going on for 16x8 Sportmax wheels.

I'm using the maximum tire width recommended for a 7" wide rim without any rubbing problems. This is not to say that you won't have any rubbing problems as what works on one Z may not work on another. There are differences in individual cars as well as brands of tires. I have plenty of clearance on the inside with coilovers and I didn't have to roll my fenders either, so it's a pretty good bet you can get them to fit on your car as well...especially if your willing to possibly roll your fenders. I have an ftermarket spoiler that replaces the front valence, so this isn't an issue for me.

There's been alot of discussion regarding wheel adapters, but theoretically well made adapters should not be a problem. There are plenty of people putting down all kinds of power with them without any problems whatsoever. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=87587 FYI - The Konig wheels you buy form MSA are Honda wheels with adapters. I bought my adapters from ModernMotorsports and then bought my Konig's on my own. I paid less money and had a larger selection of wheels to choose from.

I'm running 225/45-17's on 17x7 rims tucked under stock fenders with coilovers. According to this tire calculator my total height is around 24.97". http://www.gofastlookgood.com/Wheels/TireCalc/index.htm You can still get right around 25" of total height with an 18" rim if you run a lower profile tire, but 19" would probably be too much. I think that regardless what diameter wheel you get, with 9" wide fronts and 9.5" rear your going to need to modify your your fender lips unless you run your car very stiff or very high. Check out this thread if you haven't looked at it already regarding modifications to mount zg flares. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=113064

Very nice. Looks like you're taking up a good chunk of your backyard with that beast. How did you convince your significant other to let you do that? Hopefully the giant spider won't try to make it his home.

They're designed to fit completely over the existing rails and are welded to the floor pan. If you haven't seen them already, here's a link to a couple of good threads that talk about them: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=118440 http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=106974

Sounds like an interesting project: http://www.w2wpowertrain.com/t-heretic-2.aspx Their talking about making at least 1000hp with a twin turbo setup!

Thanks for the update and glad to hear your swap worked out well for you. So any problems at all during the 2 years? Anything you would have done differently if you were to do this again? How hot does it run and did you install A/C?

I use TTS DataMaster and it works great. It keeps track of all the data and allows you to display graphs as well. Playing back recordings allows you to see whats going on under all types of conditions.

I'm going to assume you meant evaporator as the condensor goes in front of the radiator. I used a Vintage Air Mini system and the evaporator fit in place of the stock heat/ventilation unit allowing me to keep the glovebox. I'm sure you could piece something together using parts from other cars, but you're going to have to really know what your doing, and you will probably e runnning into problems making everything work together. If you've got the time and ability, then give it a shot and let us know how it turns out.

Can you post the specific Summit Racing part you are talking about (I can't find it on the Summit Racing web site)? You bought this and installed in on your Z? If so post up some pictures so we can see how it looks.
