  1. Excellent choice, and if you buy Inventor you can import the drafting to autocadd and do beautiful draftings. Mechanical Desktop WILL require a class or more to master.
  2. My Z draws more attention than any car I've owned previously. at least twice a week I pull into some shop or am sitting at some light and someone HAS to come up and comment, "I had that car in HS" or "You never see Orange anymore, nice car". A lot of times it is comments from kids, they like the look, size, color, sound. I've heard, "that sounds very healthy" and "I need an exhaust tip like that" - as if the tip is what is making the healthy sound. This car is an attention grabber more than a Porshe, Mercedes, Camaro, etc. AND of course every time I see another 240, the driver of the other car honks or waves etc. I'm still dumbfounded when I see a pretty girl in another car with who is obviously their boyfriend/husband give me the thumbs up or smile at me, or try to mouth something at me. I can't help but look behind me to see what the F she's looking at. I mean really, I'm no GQ model, but in that car, I feel like it. Anyone share in my observation?
  3. 4g and you got Autocadd AND Inventor, Inventor is by far the easiest program to learn. It has a flavor of Solidworks with all the bugs worked out, and if you find that you are reverse retarded you can use mechanical desktop comes with it! I've used: SDRC IDEAS (crashes WAY too much, but fun) 3 yrs SOLIDWORKS (too buggy, gets old fast) 1 yr Cad-Key - ok for line drawings 1 yr AUTOCADD 2002, 2004, 2006 (although mechanical desktop is supposed to be very powerful if you can stand it, I couldn't stand it) 3 yrs (Love it for drafting.) INVENTOR 7 <- totally awsome, wish I had it again, very sad... I don't know any program where you can UNDO PAST a SAVE??? That's #1 in my book. 2yrs Solid Edge - Crapola, junky solidworks wannabe (1 month) PRO-E (currently) totally sucks. 2 yrs... and very dissapointed in it's overcomplicated bugginess and hard to find menus/buttons.
  4. I KNEW IT! Finally someone who is making sence on this board. Reverse this turbo that, where's the real meat on this board? I just found it. That's hot!
  5. That's dead sexsay. Damnit why are we stuck with crapola in the states?
  6. Yeah, those darn overlords... wait I own. so that means I can only be mad at society or the government. I actually pay more in property taxes now then I paid in rent when I rented... Darn Government running off my hard earned dollars for what? Just so I can call the police when a wolf tries to prey on me? Just so I can expect well lit streets, a fire engine within 5 minutes when my house is on fire? Just so I can have well paved streets and groomed sidewalks and somewhere to park my 4 cars? Just so I can have a place for the cable company to mail the bills so I can watch Family Guy? Just so that I can get 9-10 hours a night sleep on a king sized Stearns and Foster matress? What a sap I am! I should find an abandoned building to squat in while eating Mcdonalds and sleeping on a deflated air matress while I fight off the "degenerates".
  7. Yes I have high beams. 240z. You turn the lights to on, and then pull one of the handels back and click they go bright. If you could call that "bright" that is. I wish both filiments would stay one, but probably burn out the bulb or melt the wiring.
  8. I'm running a carter 16psi pump in the back pushing through the stock lines and regulated post filter to 6psi. Then another set of twin parallel filters (clear) to the carb. Edelbrock Avenger AVS wanted 5.5psi, I regulated it and it did starve twice in 1000miles only when pushing and only after sitting in traffic a while and on less than 1/2 tank, I turned it up to 6psi at the reg and it hasn't done it since. Also after I turned it up was the only time I ever saw fuel in those clear filters, I always thought it was odd that I never saw any fuel in them while my truck has a mechanical pump and the filter is always full with fuel? Still don't understand it but now the filters have fuel. Go figure. Turn it up a little more your gage on your regulator may be reading low (uncalibrated).
  9. If you have a Cat or not there is only one way to get popping in the exhaust OXYGEN AND FUEL. If you have a rich condition, all the useable OXYGEN is GONE. So the next question is HOW did OXYGEN AND FUEL get into the exhaust? Well, a rich condition coupled with an exhaust leak could cause air to enter the exhaust if you have a VERY free flowing exhaust it could actually scavenge air into the exhaust and cause the unburnt fuel to ignite (usually when hitting something hot like a cat). If you have a lean condition, all the useable FUEL is GONE and you couldn't have anything to pop. You must either be exhausting unburnt air/fuel mixture into the exhaust in which case you would be hearing or feeling a "miss". This would not necessarily cause your problem because even a car that misses badly doesn't backfire constantly. IF you truely are hearing what you think you are hearing, the exhaust would be getting red "cherry" hot the situation and must be a firing of unburnt Fuel AND oxygen in the exhaust which is a no-no because that is energy you could have used AND your cat, if you have one, will be trashed in no time. So how does unburnt fuel AND oxygen get into the exhaust? through the exhaust valves, through a miss, if you don't have a stuck valve for static compression testing but you just happen to have a stuck valve during operation, this could be the fault of a longer than required pushrod acting on a hydraulic lifter (obviously not your case since it was fine before but humor me) At static conditions the valves have no life because the lifters are compressed, the engine needs to be running to get the lifters to work. SO have a dynamic compression test. The valve trane could still be responsible if your rocker was bent or your rod was just barely too long or the exhaust valve is sticking only when running (broken spring). Check your valve trane get the dynamic compression tested and then when you've exhausted all those efforts, do this (which is what you should have done first). 1. Remove the ignition cap and all wires from the car, DO NOT MARK THEM. 2. Get a good book that tells you your firing order and put them back on checking them as you add them. 3. Replace the cap with a new one. 4. Inspect ALL wires everywhere and make sure nothing is rubbing/grounding. If that doesn't solve it, 5. Remove that EFI and get an Avenger AVS. Thank you, where's my $100?
  10. 0-60 in 4.5 with a 13 quarter... with the 6 speed (probably T56). Sounds reasonable, if it gets 20mpg city and costs in the 20's I'll start drooling.
  11. That's funny, I figured as much but it wouldn't fit that far back inside the tunnel and there was no good picture in the book of how it goes, at least I didnt' see it. If I had put it right side up it would have required cutting out the body there and rewelding the peice into place (too much to hammer to fit). I didn't like that solution, plus the transmission mount was too wide I think to fit on that bracket. I did have to put about 1" of spacer between the mount and this cross member so the height of the trans with a stock mount might have worked here with this cross member inverted... Maybe I'll look into this further someday it does scrape on tall speedbumps regardless of how slow I drive over them. It's about 4" off the ground there. I will look at it again. In my case I do not believe it put it "upside down" because it works like this. I think I might make my own bracket to fit better. Thanks!
  12. Just having one in your car isn't enough... I was driving to Alaska in my 1986 chevy sprint. It burned oil like a B**** so I always had to pull over about every so often and fill it. I got sick of shutting it off and restarting it because sometimes it would hard start. Anyway I was adding oil and I droped a "glug" worth right on the exhaust manifold. It smoked up really bad and then I saw this orange glow tot he smoke. I looked for my extinguisher and it was burried in my supplies. So I went back and huffed and puffed on the fire and it went out good thing it wasn't more or gasoline or near any wires! I turned it off and let it smoke for a while till it looked like only carbon was left. Then drove on. Scary but it was the only think that ever happened to that car in the 20kmi trip, but the windshild definately needed to be replaced after and they have a habbit of putting road tar on mud in Canada so I had road tar dirt under my car like it was blown insulation. Had to chizel it off.
  13. Another desaster weighing more than the original no doubt, and with NO DOUBT a live axel instead of IRS. CEO of dodge dodge sales team dodge focus groups... dodge design/styling team.
  14. Doesn't look exactly like it but close. I wished the JTR one could have had the loops for the exhaust inverted, it would have been easier to route the exhaust and it wouldn't be the lowest part of the car... then again having the lowest part fo the car be 3/8" thick steel is a good thing. But whenever I scrape anything 9/10 it's that crossmember. Works good though.
  15. On the turbine side: What you want for the input side of your turbo is gas that is as hot and as high pressure as possible (most energy). Where do you lose temperature? (bad) 1. In the turbo itself 2. In any length of runner before the turbo where do you lose pressure? (bad) 1. as a consequence of losing temperature 2. as a consequence of runner losses due to friction Obviously the longer the runner and the more the gas is allowed to cool the less energy you have to make power from the turbine (thereforte a smaller turbo to have any hope of spinning properly). Also insulation of the turbo and any runners to the turbo would be warranted as long as the increase of power offsets the added cost weight and complexity (reliability) concerns. On the compressor side: Because the specific volume of the gas increases with temperature, the efficiency of the turbo compressor decreases with increased temperature: 1. you want intake gas to be as cool as possible. 2. you want the compressor side of the turbo to be as cool as possible. It wouldn't hurt to add cooling mechanism to the compressor because efficiency decreases with increased temperature. However this should be tempered with the fact that cooling mechanisms (like fins, liquid cooling, etc.) add cost, weight and complexity, be sure you are getting enough power addition to warrant these factors but certainly don't insulate the compressor side of the turbo. Finally the air exiting the turbo would want to be as cool as possible for two reasons, 1. because the cooler air is more dense for intake to the engine, 2. cooler air on the output side of the compressor side of the turbo would lose less pressure due to cooling (and resistance) in the intercoller and from historical evidence it is clear that thee loss of pressure due to cooling is offset by the increase in power due to density at the intake of the engine. The final question: You can't compare STS vs. Engine mount because the clear winner is engine mounted the true question is as pointed out by Mike and others: Is the added weight, cost and complexity of a SMS turbo system warranted vs. N/A? Let the Dyno fun-runs begin.
  16. Isn't that a Chip Foose creation?
  17. I just ate lunch and that looks so good. I used to make sandwiches like that when I was in HS, I was fat no doubt and it was with regular sized bread, but probably no fewer ingrediants. Man those were good. I believe it went something like this. Two toasted poulsbo bread sliced with pizza quick, pepperonies, and grated cheese. (for the top and bottom) One slice of poulsbo bread with mayo on one side mustard on the other caught between three slices of all beef balogna on the mayo side and american cheese slices melted on in the microwave with thin sliced ham piled on the mustard side. Between the pizza and the ham went three standard farmer john hot dogs sliced in half and fried in a hot pan till brown on both sides. placed on the ham and katsup added. Between the balogna and the pizza on the other side a handful of lettuce from a premade salad bag with a squeeze of italian. then on that slizced olives, peprocinis, and pickles. Smash together and serve. Of course the logistics involved in this meal would double the length of this post. So good.
  18. Japaneese aren't known for perfect timekeeping.
  19. What happened to the rest of the car?
  20. My 350, alum heads alum pump, alum intake yada yada yada was only 450lbs???(no fluids, no flywheel, no pulleys, no alternator) why is this 4L 400lbs fully loaded witd AC, alt, oil etc?
  21. Think about what you're bolting it to. Find the weakest link and then beef it up, why not?
