  1. When I saw one in person for the dfirst time, I just scratched my head and thought, "where's all the cool stuff that's supposed to be in back?" I didn't know that was just props, I thought it was part of the styiling like those slatted back window coverings.
  2. that should work, But then again, my analog guage is so slow it usually says I'm doing 10-20 MPH slower than I am at any given moment unless I'm cruzing. This has led to many "O-S***!" moments.
  3. I smoked a vette the other day, he jumped the start but I managed to catch him in second. (up hill) HOW? It wasn't the newest version, with the hood scoop, I don't know what it was exactly, but he was pushing it. I doubt it was the 400hp version. Same day, I smoked a Transam, not quite as thrilling because although I could hear him chirp into second by that time I was passing him by about 10MPH. Why do they always want to race just because I have a loud exhaust and I look like easy pickings? you shoudl try an edelbrock 350 +T56 in a 240Z I highly recommend it for Vette smoking, just don't try to race Mike, he'll probably kick your A**. But it could only put a smile on your face when a really nice mod-car beats you. I'll let you know when it happens.
  4. Sweet. But there is something to be said about feeling each cylindar fire like in an old school SBC V8. At around 1200rpm It growls like a lion, but doesn't lug, just power. I like to cruze at 1200-1500 the sound can't be beat IMO. Very tempting, but naaa, I'll stick with the SBC. I like the vibration, it's in all the right places. IMO.
  5. Oh, I messed the fact that you are driving someone else's scrap heap. Woah. I'd have it checked by a shop before you start back.
  6. If you put a diesel engine in a Z and ran Rice Oil (if it exists), would it be called a ricer? Then what would you cann one that ran on corn oil? A husker?
  7. There was only one time in my travels that I had a problem, I blew a tire in the hills of Pennsylvania. (1 1" chunk ripped out actually) I'm glad I had a "full sized" spare that was properly inflated. It took me another 2 days before I could find a place that would get me 185R12's. Actually they sold me two used tires WITH rims for $40. Didn't need them though. Oh, a Fire extinguisher would be good too, and don't fill your car with oil when it's running.
  8. Hey alf, off the subject, but did you really meet Putin and go fishing with Bush after the hurricanes?
  9. A cell phone, A box (or two) of Golden Ghrams, and a 12 pack of Coke. Just keep driving... when you get tired, munch away. Seriuosly, You could make it in 24-28 hours. OK ok you could take a nap half way. Get gas every 300miles. You won't stink too much after sitting int he same clothes for 36 hours. no biggie.
  10. For anyone interested: Working out (is that a hobbie?) Naaa. Computer games Posting on Hybrid Z's Non-Tech Board (every day at lunch usually) I finished the car somewhat, so it's off the list (driving it daily) I would like to work on my truck but I need some big ticket items that I can't afford, it's good enough for now as a work truck anyway. I lost my green thumb, otherwise I'd be taking care of the yard but that's not really a hobbie either. I don't know how everyone has so much energy. I go to work exactly 40 hours, work out 3 days a week for about 1 hour, go home and mostly lay on the couch and watch TV or play solo strategy games on the computer. Sounds boreing. I used to long-distance bike, workout 4 days a week, and go to a lot of parties, work in a lot of clubs, generally study my @ss off, but then I graduated and got a job... that was a while back now. But to be honest this past two years doing next to nothing besides building the Z, have been the best of my life. No kids, a loving wife and a nice house with a view; that's usually going to get most people pertty content (me included) On the other hand we are planning 2 kids starting 2008 and I am trying to get into college again this fall to get another advanced degree, that might throw my content monotony into chaos again. So I'm really enjoying just laying on the couch with a glass of wine on Friday nights, looking out my sliding glass door at the view and watching the Planet's Funniest Animals. I could re-do the exhaust on my truck, fix the back corner of the lot, install the fuel safety switch etc. But I really enjoy doing nothing. Whenever I think about starting another big project I take 2 shots of Vodka and a glass of wine, that usually kills it.
  11. The registration and insurance on my Z and truck togeather is less than my wife's 2005 Lexus, and they're paid for.
  12. Lucky because if it had gone through the knuckle or on the other side of it you'd be up S-creek, no doubt without use of that thumb. You'll probably make a 99% recovery from this one especially since it was a clean cut. I cut right to the bone in about the same place as you (except on the bottom only) while trying to hand saw a doorframe with a power hand saw. I just grabbed a little too close to the blade and was going slow enough to pull my hand away before too much happened. It was a flesh wound obviously since it healed up no problem and just has a slightly different fingerprint now. I had a 1/8" X3/16" rectangular section missing however. If that had happened I'd have cut the tendon like my brother did with a shard from a light bulb.
  13. AWSOME! That'll really cut down friction! Will that work on fuel cells?
  14. Awsome thread. Sorry I should have searched A more reasonable approach to me would be to have a solar cell on your roof to offset the cost of charging your purely electric car. It's already been proven that the cost of an electric car that gets charged at your expense is equivelent to the price of gasoline. (although this was proven when gas was $2.00/gal and electricity prices haven't gone up with gasoline yet. It might be worth looking into again. However like a pyrimid scheme if everyone did it energy costs for electric power would necessitate an increase due to decreasing supply (which is already critical, hence brownouts and blackouts). The truth of the matter is that the energy used to go one mile with pure electric power is equivelent if not slightly worse than the efficiency of a deisel. So you won't be seeing any electric big rigs any time soon.
  15. I believe the exhaust on my volvo is about as light as it can get and still function, COOL it's optimized!
  16. "Duel Exhaust" How exactly do you "Duel" with exhaust?
  17. Talked to someone who owned one said the chains were on the rear axel that attached to the independant suspension, and when you stepped on the gas the car would raise up a couple inches and then when you came to a stop it would lower again.
  18. Disclamer, this is not a dissertation, please do your own research to finish out the PhD, I did some here. ------------ http://www.clean-air.org/Hydrogen%20Cobra%20Story/Hydrogen%20Cobra.htm "The tank has a water volume of 87 liters and is rated up to 3,600 psi. At 3,600 psi, the tank holds 590 SCF of hydrogen, which is equivalent to 1.4 gallons of gasoline. At 200 HP, this tank is emptied in about 5 minutes." So a 22-gallon tank full of hydrogen only has the power of 1.4 gallons of gasoline. Granted this is a car with an internal combustion engine ~ 20%-30% efficient. A fuel cell would be 40%+ if you don't count all the oosses in making Hydrogen "to a total efficiency of under 16%" 5 X more costly than using a purely electric vehicle. Source: http://www.econogics.com/ev/fcevreal.htm Given you could mine Hydrogen, and it cost the same per equivelent gallon of gasoline, then you'd only spend $5 on a tank of gas but have a range of 40 miles in a typical car. Fine for a buss that drives 40 miles and then refuels, but not for cars. IMO.
