Bronze guides are more forgiving and softer, have self lubricating properties, but don't wear as long as cast iron. Nothing wrong with cast iron guides in race heads provided they have the proper clearance. In fact some endurance engine builders prefer them for longetivity. In your description you talk about one guide, not all guides as a whole. Were they all too tight or just one? Being that it sat for so long the type of lube used to build the head can become an issue. I use white grease, some use oil, some use redline synthetic assembly lube and some use whatever else you can imagine. I have seen some builders use ATF! You say it was a nice port job, didn't you notice then that they were cast iron guides??? If you had a beef about that then you should of spoken up alot sooner than now IMO. Everyone makes mistakes now and then, even Rebello. Before you get the cart before the horse, well you already did, but I'd call them. Taking it to another shop painted yourself and Rebello into opposite corners. Rebello would be possible warranty for free and you've already got into that other shop for $$$ even if you don't let them fix it. Rebello would probably have wanted to see the head untouched, but now they can't. You get more with sugar than you do with vinegar. So keep that in mind and call Rebello IMO.

Well, started to bleed the brakes. The right side caliper has one piston not working and I broke the bleeder on the right rear trying to get it loose. Sooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, Ordered new calipers and rear master cylinders today, be here in a few days. Replace those and drop the motor and trans in, start getting it all hooked up. Picked up a core 350 early model that has a quadrajet with electric choke on it for 60 bucks. Four bolt main and some decent heads for a stocker so, I'll build the carb for the z. I gave the other carb I already built to my buddy for his '55. Worked on the '55 alittle today and helped the boy on his '99 dodge diesel. Installed track bar bushings, brakes on the front. It was a car and truck fix it day today.

CA, car accident, No insurance, liability unknown...

Well, at least your alright and nobody got hurt, which is the main concern and should be yours. Your stressing way too much over this whole thing, it's obvious from your posts. RELAX, the truth always has a sneaky way of finding it's way to the front for everyone to see. You don't need to help too much, alittle maybe but RELAX! Oh, and get some insurance would you?! Darn kids! Not meaning to be hard on you, just kind of well, uh, stating the obvious. -
Anybody ever had the fire department called to their place before?
dr_hunt replied to MatMan's topic in Non Tech Board
Tell them to FO! No evidence you started anything or are liable in any way. You pay taxes and when the forest or hills catch fire, they have emergency funds to pay for all that, always have always will, no different here. -
I think you'll love it. I haven't learned all it can do, but it does alot. Got the whole kit for $650 delivered which included 16gb memory card, two tripods, tele converter, UV filter, flash, and a bunch of other stuff. Takes awesome photographs. Need a big lens now but they are about $1200, so it'll have to wait. Got cars to finish up.

Yeah, one wheel peel! I was hoping to just drive it around town and stuff. I have 8 or so v8's in various stages that I could always drop in. Along with a built th350 or a PG coupled with a r200. But I have the other white z with the 9 inch so I don't need the red one to boogie much.

Well, the hardware kit came in, as did the front pads and the new rubber brake lines. Got the brakes on and the front rubber lines. The back rubber lines looked ok so I left them alone. Had a hard time getting the drums off the back since the shoes had disintegrated and glued themselves to the drums. Finally got them off, got it all replaced. Pretty easy brakes to work on I must say. So, now it's time to stab the engine and transmission. Next week, I have to work this weekend out of town building a road for a friend of mine. I am hoping the r180 will withstand the weak 200 hp 4.3L v6. Should be fine with the auto. Trying to decide on whether to go 14's or 15's. I have the slotted mag's in 14's the swastika's in 15's, but I have 2 new 14 inch tires. I didn't order the 15's the other day, probably a good thing I didn't. With the 700r4 overdrive I would think the 14's would be ok but the 15's might be a little better. What do you all think?

That is a tulip shaped valve, should be better flow than the design used on the l28. Ports don't look all that big but it would be interesting to see how it flows and I'm curious to see the end result of your endeavors.

Increase compression ratio to compensate for altitude?!
dr_hunt replied to proxlamus©'s topic in Miscellaneous Tech
I think the best option would be to have about 9:1 and a turbo for the l6. The v8 probably 10:1 and a turbo with low boost probably 12psi max making around 1000hp. -
This is a cheezy pole barn type shop. Not much to it but it works. Right now keeps the sun and rain off of you. Concrete is no big deal, anyone can do that. Got the disc brakes in, waiting for the hardware kit. Probably in, need to go check tomorrow. Slap the brakes on that baby!

I think your head got hurt, I think you should go have it checked out. Your speech is slurred and hard to understand. Never trust a lawyer either.

I got the shoes in today and the rubber brake lines, but the pads won't be in until tomorrow. Started on the rear, but the springs were all rusted and broken so I had to order a brake hardware kit. Both sides from Autozone were $7 total!!!! The '55 and the Monte Bought a new nikon gold edition D60 digital 35mm camera. Friggin awesome, so I'm playing alittle today. The boy and I working, went to pick up one of my big loaders today so we can start tomorrow on a new project. It was at a pit where we load landscape rock. When I fix my other loader (twin to this one), I'll take it back over and leave it there. My new little yellow lab for size comparison. Better shot of my new yellow lab puppy, going to be my hunting dog. View from the pit, I own 40 acres on the balding mountain of the 4 in the pic on the left side. Awesome Deer hunting! The town of White Oaks is in the middle of those mountains Look at this 6 foot tall 14 year old kid!!! Yowsa, hate to have to feed him, but oh well!!! Truly a great day with my boy, work and working on a z! Highly recommend that nikon D60 camera, totally foolproof, well almost.

This time on the little red z. Getting the brakes re-done. Parts should be in tomorrow, should have brakes done by midweek. Putting new tires, just 205/75/15's on it for now. Then time to install the engine and trans, get it all wired up, fired up and ready to hit the road. Have everything so that will be done. Then it's on to the white z, getting it backhalfed and going. Bought a Braswell 1050 dominator for alky today!!!! OOOOOOOhhhhhhhhhhhh baby! The boys z's 434 is going to like that one!!!! Been working on a buddy's '55 chevy, doing a v8 conversion for him that has turned out to be the while we are at it thing. Was supposed to just get it running with the 6 banger, which ended up having a dead cylinder. So I gave him a 700r4 and things went south from there. While we are at it why don't we; Converted to PS Rebuilt entire front suspension with new springs new gas tank, fuel lines new rear springs 9 inch ford rear end with disc brake conversion 350 with 700r4 all stock new painless wiring new steering column new body bushings new body to frame supports new floor pan front disc brake conversion What I have done so far. Rear springs fuel tank PS with new steering column Entire front suspension rebuild Engine and trans is rebuilt and ready for install floor pan Getting there, I need to quit working for free. It's ok, he's a buddy for life and he's going to will me the car so if I live long enough I'll own a '55 chevy.

For one Av gas is not formulated the same as auto fuel. LL by av standards is high lead by auto standards which is due to the air cooled nature and the need for lead to lubricate the valves, so let's not go down the av gas path in relation to cars. They are not the same. In an off boost situation all engines see a drop in HP, as much as 20%. IME you can run about a point higher in compression at altitude to compensate some, but you never get it all back, it just makes it snappier to drive. -
A cad file would be nice to have, give me something to use to check dimensions. You can use a camera photo as an overlay appropriately sized to compare with the cad drawing. It'll give you an idea of where things are as opposed to where they are supposed to be.

Education is sometimes learned the hard way. Your doing a good job of it the hard way. From your parents perspective, your not very bright by driving without some form of insurance. I'm sure that they have some other word to describe "not very bright". From the legal perspective, your in deep do do, especially if it is your fault. Not knowing the circumstances of the accident I can't comment. I suggest you research online the laws concerning driving, and as far as legal culpability your pretty much judgement proof although that won't stop an insurance company from coming after you. Bankruptcy won't discharge all of that debt but it will wipe out about 85% these days. Not a good option IMO. My advice to you is to not worry about it, it'll all work out in the end. Keep a level head, think (something you haven't been doing otherwise you'd of had insurance), research, get a game plan, and move forward. You might consider consulting an attorney, most do it for free initially, that will give you some idea of what your options are. Oh, and get some insurance next time and quit driving without it, your driving up the rates for the rest of us that do have it. -
Your cam is alittle big and the LSA is alittle tight to really work with a turbo. If you can I'd change that cam to something with a 114LSA. Doesn't take much cam when you force feed the engine compressed air. Probably something in the 230 degree duration range at .050, lift around .450 to .470.

Seriously you need to pick up a girly magazine and quit looking at car porn! It'll do you wonders!

That is pretty common with higher spring pressures and what appears to be stock pushrods if it gets alittle loose. I've seen that pretty frequent on engines that don't really have all the right parts. Might check the studs on those heads you might have one pulling out. Some chrome moly hardened pushrods are in order. If those are stock then when you put it back together you should check the geometry and buy the appropriate length pushrod. IMO the best combination would be a set of dart iron eagle heads in the 76 cc chamber size. Matched with those pistons you would be near 10:1 which with the right cam would be perfect. Then you get screw in studs, guide plates and some better flowing heads worth about 70 more HP than you have now!! Those rocker arms are the lower end crane versions or appear to be. The cups on those are replaceable and are damn tough, but like someone mentioned, check them over. If your spinning it to 6800 then you might invest in a set of eagle rods, have it all balanced and then put it all back together. Hydraulic cams available now spin 7000 with ease given the right valve train, springs and titanium retainers.

Just smack it with a hammer a few good raps, then try taking it out, should come out fine. If not use a bigger hammer.

I think they showed the prison where he will be. Pretty swanky for a prison.

Cabo has already been discovered. Not much there. I had a grand time at wyndhams resort in Cabo. Lot of fun people there when I was there. Typically you don't find many young people en mass at places like that because they lack funds. Paris Hilton might have some ideas though. -
LOL Clint. I experienced the same thing at SEZ 6 but got out of it. Hard call to make on the fly. It gets alot worse when it breaks loose mid track on the 1-2 shift! That happened also at SEZ 6 but it's nice that when you lift the big slicks grab and straighten it all out. I had the same thing happen when I first started in the Monte SS and I stayed in it and almost kissed the wall, so I'll bet that'll be the last time you do that. As they say better to lift and race again than NOT!

This time of year it's always hot in Phoenix and areas around there. Midnight would be a better option.
