  1. Cool, welcome! What are your plans as far as use, motor, etc?
  2. cheater, even with a feeder your supposed to shoot 'em on the fly!
  3. Grounding is absolutely necessary on any engine not just those with MSD's. Poor or lack of grounding the engine to the frame, body, and battery when using rubber engine mounts will cause all kinds of problems. IMO you need to ground heads to the body or frame, block to the frame and battery to the frame, and body to the frame. It is easy and can be very inconspicuous.
  4. I've run gapless rings in several engines and I wasn't all that impressed. Maybe for pro-stock where they run a new engine every race. They make a set for street use. IMO they are for race only and not well suited for blower/turbo applications.
  5. Ok, since tig welders are like hens teeth around here and the ones that are here don't want to work, it looks like I'm in the market for a TIG. I know there are alot of welding pro's here so give me some input on what to buy. Requirements, 220V single phase, although I do have a 70KW wisperwatt genset mounted on a tandem axle chassis that has 240/480V three phase. Seeing as how i probably won't use the tig that much that is an option as well. Capable of welding up downpipes, headers, aluminum. I don't know about the thickness but I'd like to fab my own downpipes, headers, intercooler piping etc. What should I buy?
  6. No such thing as too much power. Also I shipped an L28 the other day, longblock only weighed 315lbs on a digital scale. So add turbo, manifolds, intake, etc. there isn't much difference from a SBC, not enough to piddle about anyway. Go for cubes, 406 or better, you won't have any regrets then, pleanty of power and a big grin on your face. Grumpyvette builds engines, even knows a thing or two about them as well, might PM him for a price on a complete setup.
  7. I think the trick flow heads are in the 1K price range. I managed to pick up a used set of AFR 227 fully cnc competition heads for 1K. But IMO, buying new ones for about 1350 is a good deal too! Nothing like good head, I mean heads.
  8. He's not the first to die of a barb in the heart, there have been several, and several that died from a stab in the abdomen. You don't have to step on them either, just get close enough for them to feel threatened. That seems to be the case here, he was swimming and was over one and it just got him. He flirted with disaster as an adrenaline rush I guess, I feel sorry for his wife and kids as it is the ones that are left behind that have to deal with his loss. Farewell Steve, I enjoyed you while you were here.
  9. .700 lift is not a wild cam by any means in a BBC. But what may be happening is that the heads don't flow well enough to make use of that cam would be my guess. So, I think that epitomizes grumpy's point of matching parts. I went to the drags last night and a buddy of mine had his chevelle out. BBC 468, 4 bolt, steel crank,, roller cam, Dominator on alky, eagle rods, 13:1's. He had iron oval port heads, was running 12.10's to 12.30's in the quarter. He purchased some Brodix BB3 heads, slapped them on and his best time of the night was a 12.00, mostly 12.10's, so he didn't gain all that much, if any, with the rectangular port brodix heads. So a quick check with brodix and the BB3 cylinder head has a 370cc intake port and is designed for 555 to 632 cubic inch engines!!!! Is it any WONDER that it didn't pick up any power??? No, probably not, his TQ went in the toilet and his HP did too!!! But being able to say you have BB3 heads is, well, worth what when you are bench racing? Not much in my book.
  10. Well, your accomplishments are not un-noticed in the L28 world I'm sure. Pretty impressive my boy, pretty impressive indeed!
  11. It's toast, probably going to need some hard parts, might as well brace yourself for big $$$, but do it right and you won't be sorry! Isn't Jakeshoe in your part of the world? He's supposed to be a world renowned transmission man of sorts, maybe he could help you out.
  12. Moridin: I have gear wrenches, your right, one of the best things I have ever bought. But, they won't fit, no clearance, in fact I'm having to use my snap on thin wall combo wrenches, which is why I want to shoot the f'n engineer who designed this setup. Silicone boy: I can't imagine doing plumbing for twins into an intercooler on top of what I already have which is pretty simple. You must have alot more patience than I do! Tig welder, I think it's time I started doing that. Might as well, have about every other tool known to man, except that, a bridgeport and a metal lathe. Does it ever end with tools or am I just dreaming in technicolor?
  13. I got to tell you guys, putting this thing all together sucks. The engineer who designed this system ought to be shot. Obviously he never had to work on it. You can't get to any of the bolts or nuts easily, only a 1/16th of a turn at a time and sometimes you have to flip the wrench over to do that! Either that or it just all goes together one piece at a time in a certain sequence. Complete crap if you ask me. GRRRRR! If the turbo's were farther forward of the engine, it would have fit alot better and maybe would have fit in the z. I can tell that by the time this is all over I'm going to own a good tig welding machine and try my hand at fabricating some headers or exhaust for the monte and a z!!! Seriously, there is a need for quality pieces for the masses. Where is Thaagard when you need him!????!!!!!
  14. Damn, that sounds good garrett! You going to up that alittle more or are you maxed out on injectors? It'd be nice to see what the little ol' L28 can do with boost!
  15. It's not that big really, probably 380 or so. Would make Boone and Crocket or Pope and Young record books, but there are bigger bulls, I saw one Thursday morning with about 8 cows, that was a 400 class bull. But is was peaking daylight and he hauled ass. Bulls like that in the picture are less dominant, but will end up with cows, the bigger bulls have more cows and are trickier to get a hunter on. They are pretty sharp though, you'd be amazed.
  16. Really, when they could call you and have it done right the first time! I would think that more hybridz'ers wanting an engine would just call the ol' grump or BRAAP, seeings how that's what you guys do these days. But I can't imagine building an engine and not degreeing the camshaft!
  17. Not sure how to convert cc rating of an injector to lb/hr since it's 600cc per what time interval. But the compression is capable of 30lb of boost provided your engine can take that much. Don't know about those fuel pumps, whether they are alcohol compatible or flow rate of those either, but two is good.
  18. yup, outer drive up by casper mountain in the AM and Evening, used to be my dad's favorite. Boulder colorado has much the same, as does Yasin's yard evidently. Guess what the weather is like today? You guessed it raining. It smells like I'm in a glade air freshener factory with all the rain and wildflower smells. Simply awesome. That elk will probably die in the next two weeks. I'll post pic's, got a hunter coming in about a week.
  19. Ahh, reminds me of when I used to live in Casper, WY!! We had the same up there, would eat out of your mouth if you were patient enough. Hand feed them apples all the time. Really cool Yasin, really cool. Typically John, the "beavers" only are out at night!
  20. Actually, there were two of them, this is the biggest one. I'll take pictures of the wildflowers, you simply cannot believe the endless amounts we have after all the rains. It smells so good!

    color

Contrary to popular belief, red is not the fastest color. Pink is! Just think about how many times you've chased pink and never caught it!
  22. Here are a couple of fuzzy pics, but you can see I have other obstacles than just the downpipe. and with the downpipe
