  1. Wow, some early birds here! Glad to here you got it running.
  2. I drilled and tapped a hole in the exhaust manifold but never measured exhaust pressure. That is some good info about that. In that case a special turbo grind would be unnecessary. Any na grind would work just fine.
  3. I think the vr distributors are a little more reliable. My optical dizzy crapped out. I switched to the vr. The one thing I do like about the turbo dizzy is it has a screw that keeps the rotor tight. The vr dizzy, the rotor wiggles a little but it is also smaller so it frees up a little room.
  4. Use a distributor from a non turbo car. You'll also have to drop the oil pump and change the shaft.
  5. Well haha! I've come to a conclusion about the N42 intake manifold. It's junk! I made a big hole just trying to reach 1 5/16 on the plenum end. Such crap! It's back to my steel intake. I started another thread about Delta cams. This is my first time using them and I'm not impressed at all. They sent me a stock regrind whereas I should have had .450" 272 duration.
  6. The intake I built from steel exhaust tubing was just an experiment for fun. I made it work and it seemed to work well. I had a 70mm throttle body from a 3liter alfa romeo lying in the shop so I tried it. As for stall converters, they are v8 converters so they don't stall very high behind the L6. I've tried 2k, 3k, and 4k converters and the car feels quicker with the 4k. I don't have any dyno numbers out even track times to prove anything. The last time my car was daily driven it had the custom intake and 3k converter and it was a great daily car. I really appreciate your input Tony, I've learned a lot from you.
  7. I wish I had a jumpy throttle. Either the turbo or the low compression prevents that.
  8. I seriously don't know what tip in is. I'm guessing it's a side effect of a large tb?
  9. What is tip-in? I was running a 70mm tb on my car. It had a big plenum and big runners. It seemed to work well.
  10. Probably a broke ring land. The top ring is hard to break. The second ring is cast iron.
  11. If you're getting power on your ground wires it usually means the grounds aren't grounded good.
  12. My fluke meter doesn't have a zeroing function. Funny that my other one (off brand can't remember what kind it is) does.
  13. "I need to gain nearly two inches" ....lol sorry..couldn't resist
  14. It's a simple 3 second test that involves touching the probes together and reading the multimeter. If you get more than about .5, you may want to consider new leads or maybe a new meter.
  15. So I measured lobe lift with a dial indicator. I'm getting .275". I called delta, they said I should have .300". I'm glad that they're going to take care of it. I'm just a little disappointed that they don't check their work before sending an item 2500 miles.
  16. I just got my cam back from delta camshaft. I have a question concerning the new specs of the cam. I measured total lobe height of 1.51" and a width of 1.24". That should equal a lobe lift of .270" @ 0 lash. Multiplied by the rocker ratio of 1.5 equals a gross lift of .405"???? That's a completely stock lift number. I was told lift would be .450". Anyone know whats up? Thanks
  17. I had a similar problem. When I touched the throttle the engine would die. Turned out to be something with the tps so I unplugged it and the problem went away. Also your tps wires need to be shielded a they can easily pick up interference.
  18. Are you using the stock disk inside the dizzy?
  19. I noticed that when I used copper spray on the header gaskets on my sbc they lasted just a little longer. I was blowing out the passenger side about once a year. Funny, no problems on the divers side.
  20. What I meant was I've ported it to 1 3/8". I wouldn't feel comfortable going any bigger. The o.d is only around 1.60". The biggest problem I see with the N42 intake is the egr port bosses for the lack of egr ports. They take up a good bit of the runner entry.
  21. Yes you can lengthen the rod. You can try to find a thicker gasket to move the compressor off the manifold.
  22. I know what you mean. I cut my N42 intake open to port both ends of the runners. I can only get about 1 3/8". I can't remember what that is in mm.
  23. I'm using a saab intercooler with no drop in pressure between inlet and outlet at 17psi. I've also talked with a few guys at the strip and they speak highly of the ebay turbos and intercoolers. I wouldn't personally use the turbos but maybe an intercooler. There is also a honda running in the high 6s with what appears to be a mitsu conquest intercooler. I'm wondering just how much an intercooler is really needed with good fuel and a good tune.
  24. You could send me your distributor, harness, and ms and I could get it working and send it back to you. If you take it to a shop and say 'megasquirt' they'll say 'HUH?'
