  1. What day is the wrench-day in the bronx?
  2. I think I'll be able to make it, though I'll leave somewhat early. TeamNissan, D-350Z, Clive- you're all on the hook for an unveiling... don't disappoint!
  3. Congratulations on the purchase; looking forward to the pictures!
  4. Interesting, Phil. I never knew that such a job existed.
  5. So how does one dress like a cop and ride a police motorcycle, without actually being an Officer of the Law?? PS, sorry Phil, I don't have any dreams about you. Or any of you people for that matter!
  6. Clive, I might not be able to attend... still working out the details though... just so you know I haven't dropped off the face of the Earth!
  7. To be different- you can assemble the kit cobra's for the FFR challenge series; a turn key race car build and rent / sell spec miata's, spec e30's, spec du-jour I know formula 1st is pretty up and coming in the northeast, get into those? As they said, live the dream Dave. Especially with your son growing up if you can afford to assume the risk you can grow your family time and personal business too. Caveat emptor, because I'm unmarried and a fellow cube monkey.
  8. I've got the $29 harbor freight buffer, hasn't let me down yet. Get some new pads for it though.
  9. Are you spraying it or applying with a roller? I can't wait to see how this turns out!
  10. Older - than - me (on this site) is building custom gauges using model aircraft servos to drive the needles. Servos are fed a pulsewidth, usually between 1 and 2 ms at a fairly low frequency. If you knew what type of signal came out of the transmission, a simple $4 microcontroller can do the conversion for you. With minimal support circuitry, of course. Just sayin', its an option if you like to "roll your own"
  11. I've used Krylon Fusion paint directly on the hood vents and B pillar trim of my ZX. After a year the paint on the hood vents has faded in the sun. The B pillar trim, perhaps because of its orientation on the car, still looks brand new.

    Fluids

Most of the ones in the archives discuss the T5 and / or an LSD. Also, the dates were 2-3-4 years old. I thought perhaps someone had discovered something new. Such as the GM synchromesh fluid- people said how great it was, then one guy found a similar product by pennzoil, and later talked about how it wasn't recommended for the yellow metals (not sure what that is) in the datsun transmissions. I've yet to find anyone who has mentioned their personal long term experience with said products. One guy said he didn't care about long term effects, because he expected his engine to kill the transmission long before the oil did. I'll admit perhaps I didn't search hard enough. I apologize. I did see that you use Swepco mixed with ATF, in what proportion or formulation I don't know, because it was recommended to you by Porsche folks. In fact you give the same advice repeatedly in many of the past threads I've found.

What fluid(s) would be good for my 82 5-speed and R200 rear end? I can get amsoil locally, but I'm not opposed to mail-ordering redline. I see MT-90 is recommended for the trans. What should I use in the rear end? I'm interested to hear your recommendations. My eyes need a rest from all of the reading in the archives I've done- turning up a ton of different opinions!
  14. There's a small sampling... I patched my quarters, rockers, lower fenders, subframe rails, floor in 4 spots, battery tray, ...
  15. Good work! Though, I can't imagine using an angle grinder without earmuffs! Do you have plans to lift the front a corresponding amount? BTW that's a real nice truck, love the two tone paint!
  16. Put me down as interested, but I can't commit yet. Gotta check the calendar. I know I'm going to a wedding one of those two weekends...
  17. You might do better asking here: http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/
  18. Keep at it, there's light at the end of the tunnel! Be thorough with your patching and in the end you'll have something to be proud of!
  19. I would cut farther into the car body work. Looks like you have some soft metal waiting to happen in the vicinity.
  20. I went shopping for a motorcycle with a friend, for him. The guy says "Just sold the bike, but I have two datsun's, wanna look?" My friend wasn't interested, but I looked at the cars and later ended up buying the pair. I was planning to merge the two cars into one in 2 months between graduating college and starting work. Two months became two years... I've learned so much and enjoyed it all too. I wouldn't trade it for anything.
  21. Wow, diamonds in the rough guys. A lot of work ahead of you both for sure, but it will be worth it! I consulted my girlfriend; the mystery guy "appeared out of nowhere" she says. I guess interested bystander is a correct identification. I wish I had noticed sooner; maybe we could have made a Z guy out of him!
  22. Sorry there were multiple plaid shorts... I remember Julian but I'm thinking of the guy in the background checking out Jesse's car in teamnissan's photo-
