  1. There's a lot of nice things about AVR's. Flash memory = no bootloader required Build in oscillator = no external crystal (unless you need a more precise clock than the build-in RC can provide) They're cheap Free C compiler DIY in-system programmer Internal pullups ... Anyways, if you're new to microcontrollers - the AVR is a pretty good intro. Remember a microcontroller can generally sink a lot more current than it can source. For your inputs, you'll have to play with toggle or pushbutton switches to see if you need to worry about debounce. Also, your transistor circuitry might not have enough oomph to handle things like tail lights. Relays are still useful tools! My $0.02. Keep us posted!
  2. The shape of the blades and the way they were wedged against the newspaper turned it into a spring. On a snow blower there are the wheels that everybody sees at the front that suck in the snow. In the back, connected to the motor directly, is the impeller. Its what launches the snow up and out.
  3. Knock on wood, the worst so far from the Z would be the weld glob that landed on my arm. As I tried to escape from under the car, my helmet got caught and I ended up squeezing the weld ball between my shoulder and the concrete floor. It left a little crater in my skin, and smelled nauseating. Scariest wound ever would have to be from the snow blower. I sucked up the newspaper and tried to pull it out from the top chute. Yes, the motor was off but the impeller had enough potential energy stored up that it sprung free and sliced my fingers. I was terrified to look at my hand - but luckily they were all still attached. Bleeding - but attached!
  4. It seems like you've been more than reasonable. Edit - I'll also vouch that you're a credible guy! Did you pay with a credit card? Do a charge back.
  5. I think turbo injectors should be brown, but these look white to me? I'm not very good at colors though. Thanks for anyone who took a look at the thread - perhaps you're all as confused as I was.
  6. Vinh, My 2cents - the factory five coupes have the scoop with a sharper edge at the top and a broad arc at the bottom. They all appear to close off the scoop at the back and do not have an opening. It fits the lines of the car well, in my opinion. Are you concerned with water drainage? Even if you don't drive it in the rain you still will wash the car.
  7. Are these 280zx turbo injectors, or not?
  8. Well, my $0.02. Engineering is hard. I mean, look at all of these people complaining about differential equations. That's a freshman course, maybe 1st semester soph if you're a slacker! Seriously though either one of those degrees will be hard. You have to be genuinely interested in the subject and seriously focused on your goals to graduate. ME will be harder than MET, and only you know if you're got what it takes to get it done.
  9. You should talk to this guy: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129913
  10. Cool, congratulations! I'm with 00... this will be a first for me.
  11. Phil, cool video, as always! I took your advice and found your 1st video too - you're right, how far you've come in a year!
  12. Do not let water sit on your bondo; its porous! I usually use a 50/50 mix of water and rubbing alcohol, or aerosol glass cleaner, when prepping a panel. Right before the tack cloth. 65 is usually OK so spray in but check the p-sheet for your brand of paint. 12" around the sides of the car is not nearly enough though.
  13. Very nice, Clive! I spy a rear spoiler and side dump exhaust on that baby picture... your first taste of a hot rod? "The beginning of the end"???
  14. Thanks for the correction; my mistake. Good luck with the purchase.
  15. In case you're looking for rubber lines too, a week or so ago I bought some beck-arnley brand lines at rockauto.com. They were listed as a closeout, and cost about $6 a piece.
  16. No, but the odometer has enough digits to show the 1.
  17. It looks fantastic! You do excellent work! Thanks for sharing
  18. Its a hobby. Do it because. As long as you're not starving, you only live once. Might as well enjoy it.
  19. I've got to say, that's one of the few songs where the cover is better than the original... Here's another cover, best enjoyed with the MUTE button clicked
  20. I saw Foreigner in concert this past summer... Juke Box Hero was incredible live! Yes, the 80's rocked. And look around, they're coming back
  21. Oh you california guys have all the fun... we're expecting 5 to 8 inches here tonight! Excellent video, thanks for sharing. Motor sounds smooth, its plain to see you've spent a lot of time on the details and tuning. I can't help with the miss but I wish you good luck
  22. This is prox's thread - http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=98762&highlight=z31+turbo
  23. OK fellas, I need some purchasing advice. I found a guy parting an 87 z31 turbo. He is asking 100, add 20 shipping for the turbo unit. I can tell its a T3 based on the photos he sent; I know the archives here say 86 was the last year for the T3 but this site says 87 was. They have photos T25 side by side with a T3. Anyway - he cut the downpipe forward of the O2 bung, just after the exhaust housing. My question is for people who have done the z31 swap - Prox and others - would you say that's a deal breaker? What material is the housing made of, and can I weld my own pipe to it? If I make my own downpipe, do I need to somehow fit in the wastegate actuator? Looking for any advice you've got.
  24. It looks like you guys have having a lot of fun! I can't wait to see your car clive, in the spring
