  1. My daily driver Mazda 626 has noisy ticking lifters. I had the brilliant idea that to identify the culprit, I would remove the valve cover and start the engine. Trouble is, I forgot about the oil. Needless to say I learned that I have very good oil pressure. It took me a few hours to clean up the hood, fenders, floor, garage walls, my clothes...
  2. Let's see- take off work today, tell the boss I have the flu, u-haul tow bar rental by noon, I think maybe... No just kidding. Like I have a place to stash /another/ parts car. Good luck to you Evil and Flames.
  3. I know I'm just kidding with you. These turbo things keep slipping out of my hands. I thought I had a line on used parts, but that fell through. Then I figured maybe I could get a whole donor car from a guy in my backyard, but it seems like evil has scarfed it up. I guess its not meant to be! Which reminds me, didn't you (Evil) recently cut up a different turbo donor?
  4. dammit phil, keep your texas sized mouth shut some times! Evil, do you have a wrapped-up deal? I want a turbo donor...
  5. Mine seems to tolerate the ZX and loathe it when I spend too much time working on it. She went as far as calling it a rust bucket (which it /was/)! Slowly I got it back together, and as she saw the transformation she got more interested. After I painted it, her whole attitude changed. She loves riding in it now, loves the looks and thumbs up we get. I even let her drive it a few times as a lesson on standard trans. She did pretty good, so much that she occasionally says "your parts car isn't that bad... maybe you can fix it for me. I'd like it to be blue please, thanks."
  6. You bolted in a floor patch? If you don't have a welder and the patch is small, consider using JBWeld or panel adhesive from an autobody store. And as stated above, there are specific seam sealers you can buy from an autobody store or even Autozone.
  7. Ditto. I turned my hobby of computers into my career. When I get home at night the last thing I want to do is fiddle with a computer. I go to the garage for relaxation and for a different kind of puzzle.
  8. Is ALMS (and are you) coming to Lime Rock this year? Good luck with the season!
  9. 1 bar = 14.5 psi. A bar is another unit of pressure.
  10. Ron & Pete- Thanks for the answers and link. My google skills also led me here: http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/edis-hardware.html Which I think applies to Megasquirt-I boards too. Thanks again-
  11. I change my tips if they get clogged up with spatter, or when the hole is no longer a circle and becomes an oval. When I first started welding I changed them pretty quickly. Now, not so often. Practice makes perfect (or so they say :/)
  12. The further the question above, how does one "align" everything in question? As in, the missing tooth on the pulley must be at "x" position relative to the sensor when "y" cylinder is at TDC (or some such)?
  13. PS in your video you said you were going to Fort Worth. Have you been to Grapevine, Tx before? There's a restaurant called Esparza's. Awesome. And the beer at "the Big Buck" Bass Pro Shops' own restaurant is great. Man I miss Texas. Maybe someday I'll be back.
  14. Phil, I love watching your videos! I've been reading up the archives, watching your movies, searching on the web, etc... but there's one thing I can't figure out! MSnS... how does MS control the spark? It looks like your wires still come off your distributor? I was expecting an EDIS system with coil packs, but I was wrong! Do tell, Phil! please? EDIT- I think I figured it out. The MSnS drives the - side of the coil. You still need the distributor (mechanical and vac advance disabled) to get the spark to the correct cylinder. Yea?
  15. This is even better... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CF693eh9mUU
  16. The Z car is a unit-body. Even though those pieces are relatively thin gauge the bends and box structure add rigidity to the entire car.
  17. Right. Those are both "positive" terminals. Now you have BATTERY+ ----> BATT_CABLE You will have BATTERY+ ----> (kill switch you called positive) BATT_CABLE ----> (kill switch you called negative) Good luck, don't burn the house down!
  18. I'm only a few hours from Boston (the Factory Five "factory") but I just can't let myself take a trip there... their kits are so nice and affordable that the temptation is too much!
  19. Car related: 3-pc set of vice grips from the GF  an even bigger BFH from my folks a seemingly 11-million piece set of air tools from my bro Plus plenty of clothes. Apparently my wardrobe was "outdated".
  20. I agree with mom, that is really bad. You can't use fiberglass there. Impossible. You would have to replace almost all of that rusty metal, and probably make most of your own patches unless you could find a solid donor car. In which case it might be easier to swap everything from the firewall forward. Which, most people probably wouldn't do unless the car has sentimental or significant monetary value. Maybe you can fab up some cap pieces to brace everything again. It will be time consuming but you might be able to rebuild it like a jigsaw puzzle. So, what else is rusty on your car?
  21. Evil I'm really getting excited to see your project come together. Perhaps this summer some time we can try again to line up our schedules and get together.
  22. Hey flames, do you still have the car? How's the damage on the front right, under the fender? I need a replacement piece. Let me know how much you want to cut it off for me, and if you're nearby I can pick it up. Here's what I need... I drew the lines generously so I can trim it later to fit.
