  1. I saw someone (on the web?) make velocity stacks using a piece of hardwood as a die and a shop press to expand the shape out of mild steel tube. The wood was tapered to fit into the tube and expand it out as the press applied pressure.
  2. Flip the can upside down when you store it. The skin will form on the other end. That said, I use rust bullet... POR is picky about prep, RB isn't as much.
  3. Make sure you have the wings at Duff's. And of course, Mighty Taco is pretty tasty too!
  4. Sorry guys, I'm out till spring. Have fun those of you who make it!
  5. A poorly done accident repair in its past?
  6. I was just visiting some friends, I don't actually live there... unfortunately. I moved away from Austin 11 years ago and it sure has changed a lot! Edit - and thank you for the compliment! Here in NY its about time to put her away for the winter.
  7. I spotted a flat black 1st gen at The Domain - I gave the driver a wave. Also saw a light blue parked downtown while visiting 6th street. Anyone on here? If so, "Howdy"
  8. Looks like you're doing fantastic work. You're skilled with a welder too! Keep at it. You can buy seam sealer at the auto paint store. It comes in a caulk tube and costs around $10. I think you can even find it at Autozone.
  9. I'd weld. But you probably don't have one / can't, otherwise you wouldn't be asking this question. In that case, look into panel adhesives. You can glue the floor together. With a couple screws / rivets till it sets you will probably be OK.
  10. Nice video clive! What did she say at the end?
  11. I found cardboard stuffed into seams, and galvanized sheet metal pop riveted on my car. BJ - I had a hard time getting primer to stick to ospho. I got the best results when I washed it off shortly before it dried... then dried the metal. I stopped using ospho for body work. I just soak bolts in it for a few hours now.
  12. I'm an EE / Comp E. Remember working for yourself you assume all liability... things like 401(k), medical, dental, vision, time off... all gone. Instead you pick up the bill. When I think of The Next Big Thing I plan to start a cottage industry and work it up from there. For now, I'm comfortable in my day job.

    my first z.

79 didn't come with a turbo from the factory. Edit - I realize this statement isn't necessarily contradicting yours. It could be an original NA engine with a turbo added. Anyway - post some pictures!
  14. Subscribing for the replies... Where's the intended location?
  15. No rush. Things will be paused soon till spring, but I'd appreciate the consideration. Clive has been helping me along to find parts and / or a donor. I really need to get rid of my existing parts car... so I can replace it with a donor... no one at home would notice I'm sure... then I can actually buy clive's car...
  16. Did it come with the spare turbo? If so, and its in good (usable) condition, let me know if you're willing to sell please
  17. I used krylon fusion satin black aerosol on mine. The sun is finally starting to bleach them - after about 2 years. No peeling or wrinkling issues though.
  18. Clive's right, no storage space at the moment. That car looks like its in good shape, save the collision, though the engine bay is a little messy. I just got home from NYC. A tree fell across the tracks so MTA took us back south and left us to find our own way home. Maybe I'll have a brilliant idea by morning so I can buy it...
  19. Oh my. Thanks for the heads up... but I'm in the same position as I was with yours! No way to get it home!
  20. Aww c'mon Clive, you could fix that right up...!
  21. I have nothing constructive to add, except to point out the inherent irony of living in a place called Mechanicsville, VA
  22. I'll second Omni... I used the MAE on my Z - acrylic enamel. Then on a couple of other projects I've used the MTK - acrylic urethane. Its soooo much better and the incremental cost increase is negligible. I painted my Z in the backyard a year ago. Omni MP170 epoxy, MP182 high build primer, MAE black single stage. This spring I wet sanded and buffed out. Mind you, I literally painted in the backyard... no makeshift booth or anything... so I had bugs and such to sand out. I'm pleased with the results, especially for my first job. I learned a few things, and I used the AU to paint a couple other projects... my skills are improving. When I eventually do the Z again, I will: 1- use the urethane paint. single stage is OK for dark solid colors, else BC/CC. 2- use a 2 part spot putty... I used cheap lacquer spot putty and I had shrinkage occur 3- build a booth 4- guide coat early in the paint job, as well as on the final primer Oh, and I can attest firsthand, nothing can topcoat rustoleum except more rustoleum. Once you paint a car with it, if you plan to switch you have to strip it! PS, trav - that truck is looking goooood! Love the color too!
  23. Well, I wouldn't do it. Closing down the bank account is never a good idea.
  24. Yeah cygnus, we lost sight of you on the way out. Dee said "I thought he was taking it easy in the rain?" ha ha
