Okay, as some of you may know quarters for CSU's are coming to an end and I'm not doing the very well (B minus high C average in most classes). As I come to think of school I realize how I have never really had the desire to be there, I'm in my second year of College and am thinking about dropping out. I live at home with my parents, been in the same house for 20yrs, have no friends in town anymore, and there is little to nothing at all to do except drink at shitty bars with a bunch of tools. I feel like I need to get out of this town and start living my life for me for my interests in life. I, in part am going to school for 3 reasons: one I wanted to get my business degree, two to make more money afterwards, and three because my parents wanted me to be. However, I have only one real interest in life cars. Now I'm considering a couple of options: I drop out of my CSU and apply to Wyotech or other school for me to get my ASE certification and move out of CA to the Mid-west (cheaper cost of living) or stay in CA while having a sh*tload of debt. Open myself up for large career oppurtunities in automotive field. Drop out of my CSU and get a job at a custom car shop. Stick with my CSU get my Bachelors in Business Admin get a job and keep cars as my hobby. Drop out of my CSU take time off to discover what I want to do with my life and possibly come back to it. The problem is that if I drop out of my CSU my parents will no longer support me nor my decision as my brothers both have graduated from 4 year schools and grad school (one a movie producer the other a lawyer). I'm in a bad spot because I feel that if I don't stick it out and get my 4year degree I will burn the bridge between my parents and I. Conversely I feel that if don't do what I want to do then I'm not living my life for me but for someone elses goals. I'm not the average 20yr old and am very business savy and a relatively smart guy I can do anything I put my mind to (I don't apply myself to things I don't like doing therefore not do very well in school), but I don't know what I should do. That is why I'm posting is I would like your guys' opinions on the situation and what you think I should do. Sorry for the long post and sounding like a whiney bitch, but I've got no one to turn to who understands why anyone would want to work on car. Thanks for any help. Tyson

I've always understood that it is illegal to drive without proof of insurance. You also need to have registration and drivers license. I've been pulled over and harassed for driving a red BMW. Literally driving the speed limit, blinker turn everything. Course I was driving the day after a big street racing reck and I guess a red BMW is rice here... I've had a friend plead not guilty on all 4 of his tickets, officer didn't show on any except one. Tyson

The only thing you would be lucky to find something new would be a Remanufacture directly from Nissan. A Used L28ET motor set can be found at Junkyards, Ebay, Classifieds on Z Car websites, its not a new nor overtly popular with all the importers making it extremely hard to find it from an engine importer. For a "new" like motor you'd be best rebuilding a used L28et or finding one that has recently rebuilt. Again its an older motor so its almost a guarantee that you are going to have rebuild something on it sooner or later. Tyson

You make me feel so much better Zhadman. That is so much of what I do daily feels good that somone else is in the same boat. Its hard not to dream of all the options and then realize you want all of them I guess my goal for 10 Z's all different won't be so hard after all . I think i've actually calculated out that is less expensive for me install an RB26DETT than for me to build a HIGH performance L28ET, so I'm really looking to do the RB cause well I have tons of bolt ons available, and can reach close to a 1000hp if i ever really wanted to. Well my sig is making fun of me. I have the Custom Truck and the 78 Datsun, but the next saying is mocking me because if you have talked to me for a while I go through car choices and get side-tracted from my Z. Its also making fun of how I can't make up my mind on what I want to do to my Z though I think I've finally resolved into a good setup. I think most of the machinest/builders will agree that you should at least hone your block if your cylinder walls are in REALLY good condition. However you might have to use oversized piston rings which IMO isn't the best for a boosted engine as you allow for more chances of blow-by or blow through (not the best for piston to cylinder wall seal). I think the best option for least amount of maching required would be bore the block out 1mm and get new pistons. If you use the N47 head you'll get 9.493 Static compression ratio, which will be fine for a NA motor until you go to turbo and the P90 head. Which will drop your compression back down to 8.231 which would be good for a street boosted L series motor. Some of the better engine builders can chime in and correct me if i'm wrong. tyson

Yes you are right Mat73GNZ. I don't know for sure what you mean by a Lunar Jacket. I'm guessing you are referring to jacket in which Lunar is using for his. It appears to be a basic Dickies Style Jacket, most embroidery shops carry something very similar to this. If there was enough interest or if you wanted me to design the jacket anyway (for a very small fee) I will offer the Jacket in two Colors Black and Navy Blue. The HybridZ Patch will be color matched to the Datsun Patches color to ensure a good unity between the Patches. Again this is an if there is enough interest I can get several Patches for HybridZ made, and charge little over cost of their creation. Tyson

Okay Figured I'd start a group buy thread for the Datsun Patches. (picture credit to Lunar240z) The large Datsun for the BACK of A jacket is 10" X 7" $16.00 The small Datsun for FRONT 4.25" X 3" $8.00 Okay this is the way I'm going to set it up. Specify: (quantity wanted) x FRONT (quantity wanted) x REAR SAMPLE ORDER: I want 1 FRONT and 2 REAR. Also, I'm checking into getting some HybridZ patches made to go along with Datsun patches. Another thing is if there is enough interest I will look into making Datsun HybridZ Jackets. If you are interested in group buy let me know on the forum. Okay this is the way I'm going to set it up, if you didn't catch the edit or wasn't clear. 1 SET is = (1 front and 1 rear) 2 SETS is = (2 front and 1 rear) etc. Individuals or custom orders: 2 Front and 1 Rear = 1 SET + 1 Individual (FRONT) 1 Front and 2 Rear = 1 SET + 1 Individual (REAR) Specify by saying SET or INDIVIDUAL (FRONT/BACK) the by HOW MANY. EX: I would like 2 SETS + 1 Individual (BACK) = TOTAL (2 FRONTS and 3 BACKS) Tyson

I completely understand your reasoning. Mechanical Engineering would be awesome I would be doing the same if I were better at math. Like you said the MEG Degree leaves you open for a large possiblity of careers. After you get your MEG are you going to go for a Masters program or just going to stick with a BA? Also have you looked into the Grad School programs for Transportation design? Though if i remember correctly they cover more areas (i.e. industrial, transportation, and residential), if you were looking for more of an artistic field. I think it could also open you up for more advanced designs of automotive by having a double-backing of knowing the mechanicals and the good looks. I say go for what you're doing, best of luck. I agree. If you would be willing to move to Los Angeles/Pasadena area I'd highly recommend these guys http://www.artcenter.edu/ the offer an entire major to transportation design. I applied back when I wanted to be a graphics design major, but didn't get in. They are one of the best in the nation and do have a lot of connections to big time Car companies. Tyson
