  1. I don't know if this is true, however most 300ZX people stay away from the 6-speed due to its gearing. Meaning that it isn't the best for a turbo application. Anybody know about this theory?? (right or wrong). I don't trust the 300ZX forums very much, so its off to HybridZ to see if they're right. Tyson
  2. yeah i know scotties still around, just no longer a Z owner. Glad that you decided not to sell the thing. Also just some fyi, i wouldn't have actually cried. Hope you get things rolling again, rufus. Tyson
  3. Does any body know of a good wide-body kit company besides betterbodies, or getty design?? Any help would be helpful. Tyson
  4. Rufus if you sell it I'll cry, first Scottie-GNZ I felt bad when he left and I'd never even talked to the guy, but i understood what he's done for Z's. The same goes for you, I've been dying for an update pic on your car, but to my dismay have yet to find one. You can't sell it because like everyone else has said you've put too much effort to make it your own. IMO I think it could rival Terry's blue Z for overall craftsmanship WHEN you complete it. Don't do it, and hows the bike customization coming along, any new pics ? Tyson
  5. Okay problems with the 944 is that it has to deal with smog, when i first built the motor i built if for a pre-smog car. So that rules out the 80's style porsches. I'm currently at school (HybridZ addict anyone???) but i'll update this later with my price sheet. The one i'm looking at is http://forums.pelicanparts.com/showthread.php?threadid=242372 . It comes with glass and that such. No interior, tranny, or engine. So, I'm going to offer less see if he goes for it (somewhere close to $900 opinions?) Since I want to do a widebody kit anyways, I was looking at betterbodies.com, but when I emailed the guy I got a very rude response. I'm thinking of going with a 993 Widebody kit from Getty Design ( http://www.gettydesign.com/Gallery/Pages/gallery993.html ). Then I figured basic shocks and springs for the time being. 2600 for wheels (CCW) and tires. Basic Brake upgrade, no need for the Big Brake Upgrade, the my full interior looking at close to another $5000. All in all my total came up close to 16k. Unless you have some connection to get great deals on Porsche parts. So I'm leaning away from the Porsche. The Jag wouldn't real be a performance machine, it'd be as wheelman said a sleeper. However, I was browsing the local classifieds, and came across a 1966 Triumph Spitfire, and that got me wheels turning. I know for a fact a V8 conversion would be out because of my parents. However, I thought an SR20DET swap would be pretty sweet and am going to do a spreadsheet later today. (I'm the spreadsheet king). Let me know what you guys think. Tyson
  6. Wow Brandon I don't know if that was supposed to be funny or not, but it was hilarious IMO. Yeah the major drawback for the Porsche is the insurance for a younger than 25yr crap. However I can't stop drooling over em, and chicks are always plus, however the jag does have a backseat...and well i don't see a girl getting over the shift nob in a porsche (no pun intended). I don't need a sleeper because well me and street-racing aren't a good combo, i'm going to try and scare off most people then those who do challenge will get their ***-handed to em. Tyson
  7. Okay, I'm going insane, I'm looking into cars to drop my 350 SBC into. And have narrowed it down to two options (unless their is a better option). Unfortunately a V8 z is out of the question. So, I'm looking at a pre-1975 Jaguar XJ6 or Possibly a pre-1975 Porsche 911/912 to drop in a V8. Pros of JAG: Cheap I like the Sedan type look (reminds me of the transporter) Could be quick Can do T56 manual conversion. Cons of JAG: Very little aftermarket parts, for suspension Little to no information for upgraded brakes Horrible resale value. Pros of PORSCHE: Its a porsche Its be fast and fun Large aftermarket for it. Looks damn sexy. Con's of PORSCHE: EXPENSIVE!!!!! Hard to find a good cheap model. Parts are fairly expensive I'm pulling my hair out on this, so I need your guys' opinion. No 914's and it has to be able to fit a 6'-4" guy on the inside, for other cars. Thanks a ton. Here's a pretty sick V8 Porsche http://hypertec.ws/todd_porsche/ Tyson
  8. Umm wow, you need to go out and do a lot more research on the KA before calling it an inferior motor. These http://www.import-autoperformance.com/ do a pretty damn good job with a KA. Everyone is always so quick to jump on the KA, because of its weight, and the fact that the SR20DET is supposedely this far superior motor. Yes the SR is great but it also has its down fall, just as any motor does. If you're going for cheap, and cheaper to maintain (more readily available parts) go with a KA-T. Here's a couple of links for aftermarket parts for them: camshafts http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/cam_corner.html flywheels short shifters: http://www.pdm-racing.com/products/power.html forged Connecting rods: http://www.240sxmotoring.com/connectingrods.html Forged Pistons: http://www.240sxmotoring.com/jepiforka.html Turbo Kits: http://www.jgycustoms.com/240sx/turbokits.htm http://www.import-autoperformance.com/240sxstage1.html http://www.phatka-t.com/s13turbokits.htm then of course ebay. I'm not wanting a KA/SR argument, but don't be so quick to through it out because its heavier than an SR, and was offered in a truck. its still a very potent engine. Tyson
  9. Ditto on what everyone else said about gorgeous. There are 3 cars which i show to everyone, when I try to get them into datsuns. Yours, Darius, and Stony. I get pure beauty, pure V8 muscle, then pure wow thats skyline motor factor. Then I show em hybridZ and all the rest of the upcoming cars i'm drooling at.
  10. Hows your progress coming along mtcookson? I think hybridZ is in need of some sort of update. Tyson
  11. Well if you can find an SR20DET for that price you let me know. Unless you have an immense wealth in fabrication skills and tons of parts laying around to put it nicely you'd be very very hard pressed to perform an engine swap of any kind for that price. Most swaps on average run close to 3000 for a bare bone swap and way upwards I think Jamie T's skyline swap is close to 12k in parts alone. Look a little more into it and you will either need to look into increasing your budget or figure out something to work with the 300ZX motor you have now, cause 1500 isn't going to cut it to make any beneficial improvement. Now I'd recommend an NA KA24 just for initial cost of the investment, you can get them for cheap then later turbo. I recommend that just for a pure budget build. A turbo system for you current motor from the junkyard could work out well until you run it to the ground. I just don't see you doing very much with that budget though (not saying it can't be done). Search a lot, and you'll find out a lot of great information. Tyson
  12. You do some pretty slick interior work. Looking good. Tyson
  13. Just curious smog question and its just simple not wanting an argument, but if you include all the smog equipment thats on the LS1 you'll be able to make that thing pass smog right? Tyson
  14. WOW thats pretty frickin sweet. That car looks awesome as well, anyone know what type it is??? Tyson
  15. First of all I'm jealous, jealous, jealous, jealous, jealous, jealous, that one you know how and can do all that work yourself. And two that you are getting to do it in what seems to be a very respected shop. Thats awesome but did I mention that I'm jealous??? Must be nice to live in Texas instead of Cali smog wise. Just curious do you have ASE certification and that such, go to wyotech or something, or just have raw know how of what to do? Tyson
  16. Well if you want a twin turbo Q45 just check this out: http://www.zparts.com/showcase/engines/pages/q45v8z-testfit.html There is also another member on here Mtcookson (SP) who is doing an NA application I believe and is fabricating motor mounts you might want to contact him, if you are serious about the swap. Tyson
  17. Well I think when it comes down to cords it just depends on how custom you want to go. In mine custom truck I have the iPod dock station customized into my dash, i select a playlist and set it in there plays straight through my stereo with the same quality as a CD. FM transmitters SUCK!!! They claim they can operate within 10ft with "CD quality" however this is not true they have to be close to 2-3ft away to get a semi-good connection. I'm not big on the Alkaline batteries because their batter life time is often shorter than the rechargable. The money spent on the car charger is going to be more cost effective in the long run instead of buying $5 worth of batteries at a gas station to get your MP3 player to work. I'm a Mac guy so I'm limited to iPods, however my brother greatly enjoys his Dell Jukebox. I know that this does put you into the higher price range however IMO I think when you're paying a $150 for 1GB why not spend the extra money and get 15-20GB instead. Then you are able to constanlty expand. Also another benifit of having a larger GB one is if you need to transfer files, programs, etc from one computer to the other the MP3 can turn into a portable hard drive. Just my $.02 Tyson
  18. Search for VH45DE and all your questions will be answered. Just be sure to read all the search results. Tyson
  19. Umm if you read all the posts you will find two people recommending what spring rating you need. Jamie T and Cal Poly both recommended 200-175lbs springs from two people in which I respect their opinion. And do everything else that all the other people have said as well ie cages, coilovers, sway bars, etc. like everyone is telling you this is a question that has been answered many times before. They answered both your general and specific questions and yet you continue to say that they aren't, just make sure you closely read what they are saying. Tyson
  20. Yeah I know I was saying I like the 350Z now instead of the concept rendering. Tyson
  21. I believe the mufflers that Alex (SR240Z) are Megan N1's. The split into the dual, and I personally think it sounds better than the single. I don't really like straights on 4cyl because it gives it too much of the "toy car" sound that some of the mufflers do. The Megans pull out a much deeper sound in my opinion. Tyson
  22. This the one you were talking about? http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=101972 Heres there actual website: http://www.lonewolfperformance.com/ I had asked about a turbo manifold with vacuum lines and what there turn around was "1.5" runners which are larger than stock allowing port work to be done to the head to also allow a much beeter flowing intake tract. Lastly, yes, we are still at about 4 weeks turn around. Let me know about the visual part and we can try to see if we can make something that will work for you." This was a couple months ago, so turnaround could have changed. Tyson
