  1. Hi guys, have done due dilligence and searched but not come up with any answers. My car is in build and will have an LS6 / T56 combo so should be pretty rapid. I have drooled over Haans' twin turbo, read about superchargers, looked at Darius' car etc etc BUT .............. The guys in the UK who I have to say I respect and trust because they really do know their stuff tell me that anything more than 400BHP in a 240Z, even a seriously well strengthened one, will become almost undriveable, particularly when driven hard round twisty tracks or launching for a quarter mile. They have advised I go for a standard 405BHP LS6 with a Cold Air Intake and that this will be more than adequate power. What difference can I expect from a CAI ? Will it get back some of the induction noise I loved with triple Webers ? Will it increase power or throttle response ? I have read differing views on the benefit of individual throttle bodies (have to say I quite like the idea if it is available for an LS6) but no real definites on CAI's. Can anyone shed any light for me please ? Cheers Andy F
  2. Good to hear there are genuinely nice traders out there - so often you get shafted that the genuine traders deserve their praise and our custom.
  3. All is answered if I click the more info button ..... DOH Will paypal over some $$
  4. Hi, CAn I buy a couple of XL shirts please ? How much and how do I get the funds to you ? Cheers Andy F
  5. I have never ever heard of "hydrolocked" in the Uk - are you telling me that if it rains the water gets into the bores ? If so how the f*** does it do that ??????? The only way I can see is either down the plug thread or through the fuel system ?
  6. VERY interesting thread, thanks for starting it John.... My car is in build, I have been advised by may (including yourself John) to keep to 400BHP to save overpowering the car and to get the weight distribution right. I would like to point out that I have in fact for once in my life listened I am not 100% sure I understand yaw inertia from this thread but my engineer has decided the tank will be BETWEEN the rear suspension turrets, a custom made fuel cell to fit behind the seats. This was to allow space for twin exhausts and to provide a clear exit from under the car to aid with aerodynamics (having an under belly pan and maybe some venturi a la ferrari 430. Also to show off the tubular control arms (OK I know I am a poseur) That will centralise the weight distribution but will it also lighten the back end and cause handling problems ???? He is a rally engineer who builds awesome world class cars (has worked for Nissan / Toyota etc). For a very fast road car we can cornerweight the car any way we like by moving and relocating stuff. What in your opinion is the best way to set this up ?
  7. Stunned - what great engineering Deeeelicious
  8. Every time I buy an expensive part the hidden cost is the "bribe present" to stop my wife going up the wall
  9. Cannot say anything meaningful, just how sorry I am for your loss Mike. Today is the first anniversary of the death of a member of my family - you are right, it makes no sense, it is not fair but it happens. The only comfort I have is that she will always be with me. This young man evidently touched many lives - he will still live on in memory and spirit. Good people always do.
  10. DOH !!! WHY DID YOU HAVE TO DO THE PANTERA THING ????????????????? Have another itch now They are soooo gorgeous
  11. It is legal over here and cheap too in comparison to other performance cars !!!! F*****g freezing though as we do not have the best weather on the planet (UK)
  12. Mike, Sorry to hear about the tragedy of your boys' friend - waste of a good life. I have even more sympathy for his parents, they will be going through my worst nightmare right now. Never seems fair. Your step sons are going to need you over the coming weeks and months. I cannot believe in the US you get WRECKLESS DRIVING for spinning a tyre ???? that is nanny state over the top stuff. Small consolation but you have an online community rooting for you and most people on here will be there if you need anything. As we say over here "chin up old boy"
  13. look at servinitup.com or darius240z.com ............... you will find out about what he does. The bike tricks are insane
  14. Big trade secret which I guess will now be out of the bag in the UK but mine is having Porsche 930 steel flares welded on to accomodate an 8.5" negative offest at the back and a 7.5" negative offset at the front. VERY deep dish wheels. The fronts fit OK, don't need much fiddling with but the backs are a fair job, you need to cut the arches down, weld them on then blend them in. I spent months looking for steel flares and the only ones I found to fit were from VB and I didn't like them. Cheers Andy F
  15. How many do you want ?? We got LOADS of standard RHD ones here in the UK but ....... for the most part they are plated and fixed up which is why I have imported a Californian one and am having it converted to RHD. Makes me laugh, we want what you have and you guys want European If that is an original Fairlady (doubt it) someone has switched the wheels for later ones. I suspect it is a later japanese car because according to my friend Alan Thomas (HS30-H) who knows this stuff in incredible detail, they had to have mirrors on the wings to make them road legal in Japan.. Therefore the mirrors, right hand drive and later wheels point to a later Japanese car.
  16. Cool videos...... If the links don't work try right clicking and select "save target as" . Always works for me !
  17. Hi Alan, Good to see you Not a lot gets past the count does it ? I was mainly thinking of Sean's vitriolic fiery sermons on the evil path of anything other than a straight six I will find out next week if the guy will accept my offer on the LS1 engine, if not I have had kind offers of help from members here to find a good one in the US.
  18. So are yours "home engineered" or did you get them off the shelf ?
  19. Good to see you and your insane car back again Can you please please do more videos - ServinItUp has a couple but it would be great to see more. I am looking the Arizona Z tubular control arms as they are the best I have seen, just ordered the billet mustache bar - do you mind me asking where yours came from and how you rate them ? Cheers Andy F
  20. Nice one Pop N Wood Two great nations seperated by the same language and .... steering wheels ! Made me laugh. Steve, Will PM you with my mobile number, would be good to talk and get the V8 thing rolling in the UK - there are several people talking about it now so I am hopeful we will be starting a trend. Remember how much flak I got on http://www.zclub.net from the purists (or should that be puritans) for daring to suggest a V* in a Z ??
  21. Thanks for the pointers guys, Tim has also offered some help so I am getting all warm and fuzzy that this is going to work ! All the contacts will be seriously useful, particularly LS1 tech and contact with Zeeman (already speak to Russ). Steve, I was originally looking at an iron block engine and the JTR stuff but need to order the John's cars kit. I would be grateful if I could come and check it out before I place my order..... RussUK - WELCOME AND HELLO !!!! Russ is the web guru of my own club in the UK http://www.zclub.net, mighty fine bloke and another V8 convert in waiting. Pics are a way off because I am having a site built to show them all, the car is currently being bare shelled, TOTALLY stitch welded and having the bulkhead taken out and a "proper" one put in. I have ordered everything, the wheels, suspension, brakes, seats, arches ............ remember the Swedish car .............????? It should take about 6 months to get it in one piece but I need the engine and box now for the first trial fit and bracket weld for the box before painting. Why do you guys have your steering wheels on that side anyway ? It's just not cricket Costs us a fortune to put right when we import SoCal cars Will keep you posted on progress. Many Thanks Andy F
  22. Slightly off topic but still associated : Here in the UK we have recently had some "unproven terrorists" returned to us from Guantanamo bay and the cheeky f***ers have claimed police protection and all the cost that goes with it AND THEY HAVE GOT IT ! Hanoi Jane, Moazim Beg ...... same **** different skin.
  23. Thanks Deep, I wasn't but I am now I have done a huge amount of staring at the web STill not entirely sure what shopping list I need on top of a long block engine. Upshot is I visited the guy today, engine was clean, evidently fairly new and he wanted approx $7,500 for it (LS1 remember, 5000 miles) but it had all coil packs, manifolds, pumps, headers etc, basically complete. I pointed out that I could buy a new engine, ancilliaries AND T56 for about $10,000 dollars plus shipping and import taxes here (6% then additional 17.5%) and offered $4000 - he is "thinking about it". If I order a new engine it will be an LS6 but there are so many ancilliary combinations I am not sure what I need that will actually fit. There seem to be different items that are interchangeable, corvette, camaro etc. Can anyone please enlighten me on what I need that will be a drop in fit for : alternator sump the whole front end basically I would order the lot in one go from Scoggin Dickey with a gearbox and ECU. Incidentally, the LS6 longblock at SD is $7,200 - I spoke to the dealers that sell Holdens here (Badged Vauxhall Monaro) and they can supply me an LS engine but no one knows whether they are 1s or 6s The Monaro long block engine is $9,900 plus 17.5% tax steep or what ?? A shopping list to add to the longblock LS6, clutch / flywheel and gearbox would be gratefully received - also what sump ? I have seen big wing, corvette, camaro, all sorts and have no idea what will fit. Many Thanks Andy F
  24. Thanks guys, Yes the Holden Monaro is LS1 equipped but they have only been released here within the last year and very few have been sold so they are still like rocking horse sh*t to find in a dismantlers but it's a great idea I had not thought of. Unfortunately Tim I do not know anyone in the States really so am kind of blind when it comes to buying used stuff. Have never seen Super Chevy but it will be a mine of information thanks, will find it on the web and order a copy of May's issue. ANyway, just leaving to look at the used LS1 engine.....cannot help thinking for 2 - 3 thousand dollars more I should be looking at a new LS6 longblock from Scoggin Dickey
  25. Great idea but I do not know any.... would not know who to trust ...
