The thing in the middle of the picture that you refer to is the Idle Control Valve, I wouldnt get rid of that if i was you!!! The POV (pop off valve) was the the right of this but has been bunged on your motor already. I suggest you dont go messing around with things to much if you didn't even know that the thing you referred to was the idle control valve....:-s

Power regained but now I have no Spark at Coil :-(
george.bryant replied to george.bryant's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Can you please show me a picture of this ignitor that your referring to, its definately not big on my motor. If we're talking about the same thing, i've tried 2. When i crank the motor i get absolutely no spark, zilche, nothing! Are there tests I can perform with a multimeter to help get to the source of the problem?? I've tried the other distributor again and I've also tried relocating the coil & ignitor to other places to figure out if grounding on the coil was an issue. -
Common ground and stabilizers
george.bryant replied to alexideways's topic in Ignition and Electrical
I had a Voltage Stabilizer and a Grounding kit on my old R30 and it helped the lights dimming, apeared to help the stereo, and i didnt get the volts ticking up and down with the turn signals going. Was similiar to this: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Car-stereos/Amplifiers/auction-86143282.htm -
Recently my Skyline (L20et, uses a optical trigger system same as a 83 280zx-t, inside the dizzy), started running bad (misfiring alot) and has now got no spark from the coil. i've tried 2 different, afms, ecus, distributors, igintion coils (3 and one brand new), ignition modules (small assembly attached to coil bracket) and ignition ht leads but i have no luck. I'm really really stuck here and was hoping that posting in this part of the forums may get me more help. Thanks for reading and I look forward to your replies. Thanks!

Power regained but now I have no Spark at Coil :-(
george.bryant replied to george.bryant's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Thanks Nick I got it running by switching coils, drove 100m and it felt like it was running on 2 cylinders and then going up the hill to my house was a nightmare... I bought a brand new gt40rt coil before and fitted it but no go. It must be the dizzy! But i've tried two and have the same issue...They both stuffed? Could something be blowing them...? -

These engines do not have CAS. Its a 84 L20et engine. -
I got the Skyline going again running fairly alright again. I changed the Coil with ignition module, the AFM and the Distributor (all these parts are used). That seems to do the trick....for a while anyway. I then made my way to the gas station 2km away and put in a reasonable amount of petrol. I then drove about 500m around down the road, stopped at the red light, took off from the intersection and then the car lost all power and started misfiring badly. I pulled over and it reved irratically between 650rpm-750 rpm before it stopped running. After that happened it wouldnt start. It would turn over strong with fuel pump operating. I checked for spark and had none from the h.t. wires, so then checked the coil's ignition wire for spark but there was nothing. Changed back to the other coil and still no spark. Wiring appears ok to the coil... Ive unplugged it and plugged it back in a few times. I'm so lost & frustrated by all this!!Surely SOMEONE can help:coollook:. The car is stuck in town in an awkward spot to tow it back.

DJ Nexxus: Why don't you go the l20et way?

Problems with Hesitation and Stumle (Low Power)
george.bryant replied to george.bryant's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Update: Tried 2 more AFMs, took for test drive but still the problem occurs. Cleaned Contact points on all parts connections of the loom and then the car didnt start for 30 mins, once I got it running it was running very Rough. THats all i've done so far. I've gotta get the damned PCV valve back on but It will require some work. The thing is, for the 1st day of having the new turbo on the car ran great! -
Sigh. The turbo has only been on the car 4 days, was previously on Stagefumer11's R30. It's a RB20det turbo on the L20et. I'll be really dissapointed if it is the turbo, it still boosts fine its just hesitant as I thought something else on the engine wasnt running correctly. What exactly was wrong with your turbo Joe? Was it the Oil seals or soemthing along those lines?

Problems with Hesitation and Stumle (Low Power)

Yes I'm running the stock fuel injection setup. I realise now after reading more about the PCV Valve how important it is to have. Can you please provide me with more specific details of how you plumbed up the PCV valve using the brass elbows and 2 inch peice of pipe? Possible post some photos if you can. My car is pretty much undriveable and I just want to get the PCV vavle back onto the motor ASAP with as little work as possible. Thanks for the reply Joe. -
I bet it will haul Nick!

Ok guys, I found this post whilst searcing for PCV information on Google. I have a l20et and I have just upgraded the turbo, the PCV valve was interfering with the position of the turbo so I removed it and bunged it and let the block breath to atmosphere. Now the car runs like Rubbish, really really badly infact. I have a big flat spot, i'm looking at my lack of PCV valve. Is it easier enough to move it into one of those bungs on the bottom of the inlet valve? Does anyone know what size I'd have to tap it too? Thanks a million!

I've already created a thread here: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=118657 its for my L series Skyline Thanks!

Hey All, I'm in rather a pickle here and i'm rather dissapointed about it. OK, Car starts find and idle is good. Take off in first appears to have more exhaust noise compared to usual (but maybe i'm hearing things and i'm trying to figure this out) Through each gear, the power seems rather low under 2000rpm, once 2000rpm (around about) is hit the motor seems to pcik up a fair bit. THen the boost kicks in, but it seems hesitant. Sort of feels like its misfiring when i put my foot right down. Going up hills is even sluggier and boost takes a veyr long time to come on. Also travelling along on the flat and then stopping rather quikly (4th, 3rd, 2nd, the brake) the motor beings to sumbly around and rpms drop to around 300rpm and it drops even lower if u dont quickly give it a few hundred revs to get it back up. Prior to these issues, the standard turbo was replaced as it was damaged and a RB20det turbo was fitted to the L20et. But, as the PCV and turbo had no clearance I removed the PCV valve and bunged it. THe hose that used to go from the block to the PCV valve now breathes, and the pipe that goes from the AFM pipe to the rocker cover breather is still connected. I didnt think thiat was the issue with the lack of power as I ran the car for a 1 day prior to these issues and it ran O.K. I've tried another dizzy cap, another coil lead, tightening all hose clamps on the intercooler piping and turbo, advancing & retarding ignition timing...But the problem still occurs. I really hope you really intelligent L series guys can help me out. Thank you all so much for reading this. Regards, George

I need to replace my PCV valve, but the factory PCV valve under the inlet manifold didnt have enough clearance for when i upgraded my turbo, So I pulled it out and bunged it and let the block breath. Now I'm having major issues with alot of stumbly low power engine response, the car is a dog and when the turbo kicks in it doesn't feel quite right. This is only the 4th day the upgraded turbo has been on my motor and for the first 2 days it was ok. But now things dont seem so good now. Could it be the PCV? If so, is it tru about what you said about the nipple on the TB? What do you mean by cutting the nipple off and threading in a new valve? Can you please give me a description of what needs to be done? Thanks

Revs staying up during gearchanges
george.bryant replied to george.bryant's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
I never really noticed it until yesterday. When I got the car it had a broken manifold stud so all I could hear was ticking and the rves not coming down wasnt noticable. I noticed today its more so only during 2nd-3rd gear change. And yes, its a REALLY fun car. Bloody quick. I can only imagine how quick a L28et is! (the L20et is identical setup to a L28et except the blocks and head are different of course) -

I don't mean to sound dumb, but what is BCDD? I remember reading about it in the Skyline Manual, but that was for the L24e (Australian Models). So I never paid much attention to it. -

Just noticed the return spring for the throttle rod is missing. This may be the culprit....
