  1. Well I still wouldn't have bypassed the second filter because I didn't want to foul up the injectors! Also I believe the first filter in line is to big (HIGH microns) and the second one being so small (LOW micron) that caused this screw up. The first filter caught nothing and the second one in the engine bay did ALL the work. Maybe the car now will run a tad rich, so I am guessing we should hook the laptop to it just to be sure. Like Joe said, don't skip the small things and don't assume like I did.
  2. Will post pics of how clogged the filter was! Amazing the rear filter was clean when I took it apart. Front looked like it was used to strain dirt from a mudslide
  3. My looked just like yours I paid $6200 it had 34k miles on it. I was able to get ALL the money back in 6 months! Mine had leather interior and the top of the line monsoon speakers and radio. You should be able to get a decent chunge of change back from the car.
  4. I wish you had some pics of the car. Leather int, wheels damaged, SS model, cd changer? Honestly if you plan to part it out and get atleast a thousand back or so I woiuld say it is a fair deal if you can get another 300 or more knocked off for the damage. If you want to recover at least $2500 then the price of the car is high. With frame damage, be sure to check rear end and tail of trans.
  5. Joe funny that you asked. I called right when I saw your post and he says he is trying to have it up to me this weekend. The car is down in NC. The painter had his father pass away two weeks ago so I didn't call since then until today. I wasn't really pushing him since I had the track day to go to and Joe (rags) was kind enough to lend me his v8z. Hope to have some good news for you guys this weekend.
  6. I thought it was just the big 18 inch wheels slowing it down! =P Seriously though it is a fuel issue and will get it solved soon. FP needs to be check during engine load, tank drained to make sure no crap is in it and finding out from tuner FP he tuned at. Sucks that it is raining today.....weekend is almost here anyway.
  7. Pic of engine bay, see location of F/R: Will have to check the voltage at the pump, wonder if that was the cause od the first one failing on Dale. We assumed it died cause of "crap" that may be at the bottom of the tank. Also will check the FP at the rail and while driving. Rags will do some data logging and see what he is getting.
  8. Hey guys, I will give the first hand "feel" of Joe's car. My first two sessions out, I felt that I was about 30 mph slower just due to me not driving the car like I stole it. In the after noon for about 4 laps I drove it at about 8/10 and qas quick to realize that the car was down on power. I am thinking lean in the mid range about 4k-5200k....I was coming out of turn 11 and can drive all of 4th gear to turn one and never see about 5100 rpm. Sometimes, about 3 times, the car would come alive like someone kicked it in the butt. That was only if I kept my foot in it for periods of almost 15 secs or more. I really didn't want to blow anything up so I backed off. I mean it was getting to the point where stock 5 series bmws were catching my up hill on the track. The fuel pressure is reading 43 psi, which is after the fuel rail (return of fuel is done by the regulator, fuel rail is not a dead end point). I took the fuel filter apart and no junk in there. I am guess next step is to remove injectors and see if they are clogged. I don't think we will find anything because it would have made the car miss not just lack power. Like Joe said, we often play around about who's car is "slower" but for sure this 396 rwhp car is MUCH slower than my 388rwhp car. Maybe I can shoot a vid this week and we all can hear what I am talking about. As far as the alternator dying....ha! I was on my way home from the track and then boom...no power. Had to drive 45 mins from where the car died to get the part and then back to fix it. I was about 2.5 hours from home and luckily my dad came up with tools the night before....brand new alternator from Adavance Auto $170..yay! That just makes up for the lack of gas I used on the track =) Will report back as we figure this one out.
  9. I started building another v8 Z, I couldn't track down the vibrations. I wil let you know what happens when I have the "new" one together as it is getting all the parts from the first one.
  10. Mark had promised to make a few sets for me last year and never came through. I am hoping this winter I can get a set made from someone I knwo already has the bar. So this may be something to look out for if you can wait.
  11. Waiting on a price too. Did you go with an aftermarket "j" bolt because your stock ones were in bad shape or is the grade of the ones you are using now higher than stock? Also the issue with the "L" bracket being to big, I guess you can make it a tad smaller in width or we as we buy them can put something around it to avoid it from removing some paint. I wonder if this is why Nissan had that, what I would call protective layer on the OEM straps. Either way, excellent idea and part! Thanks for making this happen.
  12. Very very nice, I was thinking about one of these as a DD. Where in CT are you? I am right in NY. Are you a part of ctzcc.com, if not you should join and the new Z club started in NY; nyzcc.com How long was the build and estimated cost if you don't mind? Can't wait to see this in person.
  13. Quicker jobs, faster pay. After a few more weeks I would start looking for another shop. Unless he gives you a damn good reason for the delays. Is this guy a friend of yours or did someone tell you about him?
  14. Thanks Joe for the links. Adam I hope ot have something for you guys within the next few weeks. It should be painted in a week or two. I am going to the body shop this weekend to go take a look. I am going to borrow a friends Z to use for track day in June so I don't have to rush to get this car back together.
  15. That was my next two questions....
  16. Let me get this straight, you called the dealer in CA and ordered and they shipped the part to you in the US? Right to your door or to another dealer?
  17. So just keep a L6 in it. Don't drive yourself crazy and spend more money on something you don't need to do. If you just want a driver, keep it simple.
  18. That sums up what I didn't know....I assumed white trash meant "poor whites" and there is a difference between "white trash" & "red necks" Learn something new everyday.
  19. Well TonyD, I went to school upstate NY near rochester (Alfred, NY) so I understand what you mean. Heck one of my good older friends always called himself a red neck and white trash, pretty much because everyone in town hated him for having like 70 cars all over his property. Of course I never had a problem with it but he and I understood why people would be upset. In Dr Hunt's post it seemed like the kid came from a pretty good background so the term "white trash" didn't apply in my mind. That is why I asked because maybe someone of another race could explain to me the true meaning. For anyone who knows me I have no issue in talking about race and terms used and culture. I always feel that is how everyone grows as people and at least try to understand everyones differnt background. So I thank you guys who took the time out to chime in and didn't take my question as trying to stir up some problems.
  20. Who are you telling, I printed this one off about a month ago so I can get my gauge to work.
  21. Me being from where I am from, I never understood the true meaning of the term you use....don't see how this is an example of that. On the other hand, good to hear his plan didn't work and now he has to face the music.
  22. Site is doing well, almost 30 users in two days.....happy we in the area have a new home. If you have any problems joining please let me know.
