Holley Blue fuel pump question...
HarrisonTX replied to RedZ85's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
I had a holley blue on my '79 malibu for less than 200 miles. It broke, and forced me to leave the car on a deserted job site, fora day till i could get a new one. I dont think i will run elec. anymore. Mech, is just so much easier, and they never fail.. -

So, a CLSD r200 will bolt right up. I will toss out the VLSD idea What are the price ranges for r200s with a clutch LSD? How can i spot a VLSD so i know to stay away from it? What is the name of the part with 6 holes? the halfshafts bolt up to that right? I only have 4 bolt holes? are these all q45 r200's? Will someone explain this -

Why is it expensive to do use a VLSD? I thought you said they were $40.00 at a you pull it, and then all you need is a mustache bar -

great! so a VLSD is good? im sure i can find one in kennedale, maybe ill pickup a spare. Whats the going rate for them? Will and q45 work? How come some have 6 bolts on the output shaft (i think thats what it is) my datsun has 4. I thought i would bolt right up with a mustache bar.. Bare with me. I Have never messed with IRS before, ive done plenty of rearend work on my '79 malibu, this IRS stuff is like learning to ride a bike again. I dont know anything about IRS, or the parts names. I know im coming across as a moron. I have done tons of stuff, including some fab work to my malibu, and '69 chevy, this little datsun is a little different from my normal line of work. -

zfan, im in fort worth, where do you find them? So not all r200s have an LSD, right? My brother in law, has a few '85 turbo cars, maybe one is an 84, maybe an 86, i dont remember. he says i can have the differential. From what i haev read, those dont have LSDs so would it even be worth it? I dont want to spend $1299 on anLSD. whats with this short and long nose r200s? is that the 12mm and 10mm bolt? -

Sweet. So, my final 3 questions i think. 1. If i get an r200 without an lsd, just a normal open differential, can i buy aftermarket lsds? 2. Are all r200s the exact same? 3. all i need is the mustache bar from a 280z and thats it?! its ready to install -

Thank you. What is viscous? So all i need is a 280z mustach bar, and any r200 will work? Whats so special about the q45? i see it mentioned ALOT is the the vlsd? is that any better than a regular lsd? -
Here we go. hybridz is full of awesome info, and very informative links. I spend hours, searching, and saving posts so when i getto the point, i can just look in my book marks, and find all the info i need. I have moved on to the rear of the car, and the r200. I have a bunch of info to read, but im a little confused on the language. I learned that my 260 has an r180. And an r200 is stonger. What does an r200 come in? Whats an r230? Whats a q45? I learned there are different r200s maybe? some links say they are all the same, some mention a q45, is that a type of r200? some are different lenghts? I know LSD is limited slip, Whats VLSD, and CLSD the lingo is whats gettin me. And then theres the z30. z31, z32 talk, whatis all that? I think a z30 is the first gen z's? when do z31's start? I hate posting, cause i know you guys harp on using the search, and belive me, i have, sorryguys. If anyone has anygood r200 links, let me know.

Noone else has anything to say? Man, i thought this would be really cool. I wonder if i can get a patch made from that.
-
Wow man, That looks great! Do you think there is a little too much angle on the ends? that looks good, dont get me wronge, but i think its a tad, just a little too much angle. I wonder if i can take that and make a patch get made out of an AUTOCAD file. Man thats cool
-
Ok, so i had an idea, and need some help I think it would be pretty cool, to take the blue bar in the datsun logo, and make it a chevy bowtie. Pretty simple, but i think it would be hard to make it look right. getting the diminsions right. anyone wanna give it a try? Or maybe keep the bar a rectangle, and right chevy, instead of datsun. I wanna put my new patch on my jacket, but this maybe better. Thanks

thats what i thought the reason would be. thanks Safty VS Looks Safty VS Looks Safty VS Looks Safty VS Looks

So, my 260 has the 240z style turn signals, i want to switch, and put them in the grill like inthe 280's I was searching before i posted, and saw everyone doing the opposite, taking the huge 240z style signals, and swapping out there grill signals Why? i think the 240 style is awful, huge looking. Anyone agree with me? i will be happyto swap someone.

opinions on this crate 327 on ebay
HarrisonTX replied to HarrisonTX's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
So, in that list of parts, what would the low RPM be like? im not looking for much power down there, im just worried about having to set the idle at 1500 rpm. I know DD will help me out, i need to buy that program -

I didnt say bonestock t5, i said built t5. Dr. Hunt. So is a roller cam the key to streetablity and high RPMS? I hear roller cams are alot of trouble, and alot of upkeep. I hear you have to adjust the valves alot, there is nothing i hate more than adjusting roller rockers, i would rather change a clutch than adjust rockers. Im aware that RPM = tough valve train. this is gonna be one expensive motor when im done, but it sure will be a bad *** little rocket ship -

Well Grumpy, you advice is not takin lightly. I know about your rep here. I know this can, and will probably turn into a long drawn out disscussion. I want a 327, or a 302. I know 350's can make more power and all this jazz, i just really like short stroke motors. I just dont really know what to do with selecting the motor for this project. I want to spin a 302 to 8 grand, but i know for it to make power up in those high RPMS then i will have to sacrifice low RPM power. I want a built t-5 but if the car is doggy as all hell in low RPMS then the over drive would be pointless. Grumpy i want a 302, i just dont know what to do. then on the other hand, this is going to be a daily driver car, and i cant have some radical cam, that enables high rpms and drive it day to day. So, i could just build a mild 302, but that would be almost like wasting a whole 302, if its gonna be mild, why not just get a crate 350. I am STUCK! -
Ok, so, as many of you know, im trying to build a 302 (chevy) for my 260z. I have the pistons, crank, and block, the 3 hardest parts to get for a 302. The 302 i have in mind wont be too street friendly so i may go this route for a while http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/CHEVY-327-330-HP-HIGH-PERFORMANCE-BALANCED-CRATE-ENGINE_W0QQitemZ8030886008QQcategoryZ33615QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Its a 327, with supposedly 330hp. I have seen these on ebay for a long time. The thing that gets me, is he pictures double hump heads. I dont see how this guy has this many 327 blocks, cranks, and double hump heads. how can he afford to sell a 327 for under $2000? What do you guys think. I would call the guy and talk to him personally, but since im in Baghdad, and phone calls are a little pricey, and i dont feel like callin him at night over here, if anyone wants to dig a little deeper, and let me know whats up, lemmi know please.

Yea, Ive been tellin my dad for years that Chevy should remake either the 1st gen camaro, or a 55-57 chevy, and it would sell like hot cakes, i was 12 back then. its about time they jumped on the band wagon. I think that grill is way to pointy tho, good thing thats only a concept, and not final. Dodge did a great job on the Challenger http://www.roadandtrack.com/article.asp?section_id=9&article_id=3104

Man, thats too funny, i cant belive you would say that, without posting pics Orange with a flat black hood, thats a good idea seein as how mine is already orange. I could paint the area around the taillights black too, bad ***.
