  1. When tuning SU's would it be better to have an EGT gauge, narrow band o2 or wide band o2? I plan on having two of whatever sensor I end up going with, on for cylinder two and one for cylinder five. This will be going on a worked L28 w/ flat tops, ported E88 head, big cam, Stahl header, N36 intake, and early ZX 5 speed. I am not sure about using the EGT, having two of them might be hard to keep an eye on when at WOT. NB O2 is nothing more then a blinking light telling you you're "close" WB O2 is good, but costly. Would allow for datalogging through a laptop that I already own. I am looking for some insight on this one, this is my first N/A build and I plan on keeping it for years to come.
  2. I'de say to take the time and fine an Euro spec one. Make some calls to people in Europe on ebay... maybe they can search the yards for you.
  3. with MS, holset, front mount, 3" and a rough tune... there is a guy on www.e30tech.com putting down 320ish whp... 12 psi.
  4. grab yourself an early 280Z intake manifold. I believe they are the N42, they have none of the emissions tripe to worry about.
  5. I've got a Sach's on my turbo minivan and it holds up to 230whp daily...
  6. passenger side tire is pushed down, driver side is lifted up. on any solid rear drag car, the air bag will be on the driver side.
  7. yes, i come from the FWD world... we put our gas tanks in the engine bay.
  8. If you're going to have weight in the car, you might as well make it work for you! Find some circle track guys and see about barrowing their scales, the ones that weigh each wheel. Gasoline weights 7 pounds per gallon, go from there.
  9. Anyone else with experience in this? There has to be atleast one person running an E85 SU Setup...
  10. Hey guys, I am tossing up the idea of E85 and carbs. Here is the setup that I would like to have when all is said and done. (full time student, might take a while) Block F54 bottom end, flat top pistons Head Whatever my builder likes better Cam Something with some lope, not a daily driver Intake N36 Carbs 72 SU's Header Stahl Exhaust 2.75" or 3" Trans '83 T5 Rear R200 3.9 open I am going for power up top and will more then likely end up with a compression ratio around 11.5-12.5:1. If I would be able to run E85, that is rated at 108 octane, solving any premature ignition issues. I know I can convert the fuel system to hold up to the E85, but will the carbs take it? Nickel plated injectors are required on FI E85 cars, but i'de rather stay with carbs. I do not know how to tune carbs, but my best friend's dad is great with them and has agreed to help me out. Please let me know what you guys think. I'll be happy with setup as long as i put down 200hp to the wheels before 4500rpm... thanks, Shane
  11. Check out Saab's in the future. I can't remember if they use .63 or .48... but could be the .63
  12. www.thedodgegarage.com go to the "turbo" section and it can give you all the general turbo knowledge you can handle!
  13. was the head ever off? it sounds like the cam timing might be off a tooth or so...
  14. Is that a Stahl header? I'm saving up for one... how has it worked out for you?
  15. Clevite is beeing sold as well. I believe Mahle is buying them?
  16. Working on the car is a good idea, but i don't have a garage, and i'll be paying for school, i'm trying to go with very few loans. As far as transfering to their schools, there are only two schools in the state that have the major that I want, and only one that will let me student teach at my high school.
  17. Hey guys, its my senior year of high school and i came to the realization that in 6 months ALL of my friends will be off to college. I have abou 7 close friends that i hang out with every weekend any weekday that we can get time, 2 are going to Pitt, one to Philly, one to a tech school in scranton, one to Texas A&M, 2 that are undecided, but do not want to stay here. I however, will be attending the local community college for 2 years before transfering. This just kinda hit me hard tonight and i don't know how to deal with it. Yeah, i'll find new friends.. but what about the guys that i just spent the last 8 years of my life with? I love this area, i can drive to visit ALL of my family in under a half hour, and I plan to come back to my high school to teach. It doesn't help that my brother is getting married and moving out this summer. I'm just looking for some advice, until then... trying to make the best of these short months.
