For those who don't know, Myron pioneered his Chevy swap the hard way--with no help whatsoever! You should have a website detailing losing the car after the flood, etc, to make people really appreciate what you went through to get the car you wanted. BTW, I'm still not finished with mine Welcome back!! Davy

What's the Highest Ticket You've Gotten Away With?
DavyZ replied to zeeboost's topic in Non Tech Board
Only 95 in a 65...but I ended up going to traffic school for that one. I have been cited equally in town and on the hiway--they don't like me. Still, I am thaknful that we can apparently get away with 75mph+ on freeways around here in the morning commute if everyone is doing about the same speed. I guess it's hard to pull over 20 cars at once Davy -
I diverted my attention from "just" a stroker motor to a stroker turbo because I'm sick of all these ricers saying they can blow my V8 away. I got over the fact that forced induction and nitrous is cheating and started looking for solutions that are basically "junkyard" or off of EBay and can be replicated relatively cheaply... The Ford guys have this all figured out and have readily available, cheap parts. Us Chevy guys don't have very many cheap resources at all...It also helps that the Buick Grand National folks like to toss out their stock turbos in favor of upgraded versions. They are nearly everywhere...I figure that in the long run, it will save people who want massive power some money because they don't have to decide between building a stroker, using a roller cam, swapping out higher compression pistons, etc. It won't matter because all you have to do is get a low compression 350 and crank up the boost!... I sometimes consider myself the king of cheap, although I do try to spend money in areas that will actually help--but I am a sucker for metal with a shine I never considered anything to be "cheating," but I don't like the idea of NO2 because it dissipates, but cubes and boost don't. Therefore, boost it is. A turbo 350 will be fine for me unless the opportunity to have a stroker 383 comes along. For me it is the internally balanced motor that would help a lot and keep costs down, especially with a stick shift (flywheels for a 400 not being as common or cheap as a flexplate). You touched on a point that we Chevy guys don't have as many options as the Ford guys, but if you don't mind an LT1 motor, you can easily modify that motor with 8.5:1 pistons, better injectors, and a modified ECU that will allow boost. Back it up with a Walbro fuel pump and voila, you're there. Ah, but the LT1 is now old and it looks rather "ho hum" under the hood. Who cares?!? The proof is in having a faster car, right? Also, I don't trust myself in building my own FI system--the costs became too scary in my head after adding up everything and a stand alone engine management system. The Megasquirt does offer advantages, but from a time space continuum, I'd be too old to enjoy my car once I just gathered parts for the project. For now, N/A is fine anf the LT1 will follow. Who knows? Maybe something more radical later Davy

Bastard viruses! Poor guys are emailing me asking what in the world I am sending them I tell them it is not me! Grrrr. I'm not happy about it... Davy

Your hard work has certainly paid off! The engine is set very nicely back against the firewall, yet you were able to keep the hood latch since there is no whopping HEI--looks good! Can't wait to hear how the thing runs with that motor Davy

Denny' date=' That's exactly why I'm not up and running yet. I figure I would have been running 6 months ago had I not been distracted by more power than I need. It's been a great learning excercise, though.[/quote'] Wow, there are a few of us... I'm collecting parts for a single turbo V8, but still working on the V8 conversion It does not matter, heh, car is coming back from the body shop this Saturday, so I'll be able to start on it then. I decided to go with a single turbo after talking to Scottie GNZ. I also have an upgraded GN turbo and a Turbonetics wastegate, etc etc. All on the back burner while I just get the carbed V8 done first *ugh*. All it takes is time and money---2 things I don't have a lot of unfortunately But, good job on finding the manifolds of choice!! I appreciate you posting them here too I also bought several turbo manifolds and I am convinced to go the route of unside down mounted short Sanderson's I bought from zfan a while back. Davy

Al, good to see you post! I'd like to come out and see you, but I can't do that this week or weekend. I do hope some of the guys come out and see you though. How's your son? Hope he is recovering nicely If you are in the Bay Area another time, please let us know!!!!!!!!!!!! Davy

I received returned mail from a user that my DavyZ@HybridZ email account had a virus--that is not possible! I have updated Norton, etc. It's coming from someone else Davy

Jon, the whale tails provide about 200 lbs (or more) of force on the rear I was told. And yes, I have to agree with you, the duck tail looks like it is too erect--making more drag then downforce, but I'm not an engineer. I would think that a rear spoiler about half way between that pic and horizontal would be about right, like Douglas' design. Also, I'm thinking of a 6 inch width also. The only issue is that it would need supports and that brings you back to a whale tail or a sheetmetal wing like the drag cars have. That may be the way I would go, but I am even thinking about one of those aluminum single wings the ricers use, but mounted almost flush with the hatch, not 10 inches off the back of the car Davy

Check out the mounts and see if you can mentally come up with a good way of fastening them to your Z before you buy. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to make it work. Davy

I have a hard time thinking that these brain trusts are actually living in Maryland, where it does snow occassionally. I'm not sure what they were thinking---don't they have any common sense or were they just drinking? However, these guys make one very entertaining video! Loved the destruction :D Davy

Gosh, I missed this thread completely Ross, I do hopethe car comes back in one piece, unharmed, intact, with ALL the motor, suspension, and exhaust items still on the car. It sounds more like California then Canada. If the car ends up down here, we'll keep and eye out for it. Davy

how will a v8 swap affect handling?
DavyZ replied to philiow313's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Yeah Baby!!!! That's the way it should be, period! Davy -
You can usually pick up a Scat 383 internal balance crank on ebay for under $300. You'll need bearings, pistons, and rings, but all that can be bought for cheap if you look in the right places and don't expect 500 or more hp out of the motor! Davy

LT1 seems to be the way to go in this case, especially if you want to add boost along the way. I am convinced of this and will go LT1 when the time comes, unless there will be cheeeep LS1 stuff in the near future. Haha, I can't believe I said that. Davy

Drew, I am in the same boat as you and will be bolting on the ZG flares. I think the latter hardware you mentioned is better, so long as it will fit the recess in the flare. John Miwa (Jumbo240Z) has some ZGs, but they are riveted on. I'd rather bolt mine on just so I can easily remove them if I ever need to. Davy

Much as I hate to spend that much money, I may have to buy one I have a MOMO wheel that I can imagine getting jacked in my driveway. I also don't like the fact that they move the wheel closer to the driver. When you get the thang mounted, Tim, let me know what you think about steering wheel placement from previous position. Thanks, Davy

Has anyone ever dealt with these guys
DavyZ replied to Tim240z's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Or these on his car! Do it, Tim! Do it! Imagine them with spinners---yum! Davy -
Sounds like it's gonna rock! Can't wait for pics!!!!!!!! Davy

Love the car, Bob. I think it totally awesome. There was a 280Z here in Fremont for sale this weekend similar (same body and purple no less) to yours for $10K obo. The car had Centerlines instead of CCWs and who knows what kind of motor. I like yours better Davy

Cashier's check, Mark. Shine him on. The bastard. Davy

Berkeley, Oakland, and San Francisco all have their fair share of these turds. The one that hurt me the most: 1965 Barracuda with all kinds of crap on it--otherwise good condition. Ouch. Davy

How well does the JTR manual help for the V-8 280ZX swap
DavyZ replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Hmm, Guy just beat me to it and his answer is better...time for bed... Davy
