  1. Wow, the car is looking great! Very nice smoothing of the rear end. Don't worry about the wheels---they look plenty nice and wide enough for the time being. Davy
  2. Brett, LongRod327 (Jason) wanted to build such a motor and nearly got it finished before he ended up selling it. I think the price of the pistons was what set him aginst doing it. Price it out FIRST! Davy
  3. I had an '82 240 DL just waiting for a V8 transplant, but that thing would be much faster with the Buick motor. "Boxy, but good," takes on a whle new meaning... Thanks for posting that---makes me smile Davy
  4. I have to tell you that there is a big difference between being able to rev to 4000 and 5500 or even 6000 rpm with the 400. We're talking some good amount of untapped horsepower! It would be wasted IMO. Yes, you can have an extremely torquey 400 with the TPI and the power will quickly fizzle. How fast can you shift? You'd do better to carb it as mentioned above. But again, that's an opinion. Funny, but V8 guys are just opinionated aren't we. Check out David Vizard's books on the SBC and buy a JTR manual. Davy
  5. Dotto! Happy B-day! BTW, AUx can ride the bike home... Davy
  6. Good to hear! I love hearing postive things about engines and trannys. As for the shutting down of cylinders while driving I'm not sold on that. I am a V8Z car owner--I don't care about mileage only tire smoke. Davy
  7. I gave up on "holding mortars" when one exploded in my brothers hands. No real damage, but he is still mad at me years later because I made him hold it. Never do that again! Davy
  8. Uh, the more performance cars the better: 1) Competition means better and better versions get built 2) Competition means other competitive models from other mfgs 2) More cars means lower prices on parts 3) More cars means more wrecks at the JY and more possibilities for swaps 4) Never diss performance 5) Not every guy or family can afford several cars, escpecially sports cars 6) A hemi wagon is like 1 stop shopping Davy
  9. Only in the movie. There were a number of Japanese movies made with the car. Three carbs and turbocharged if I recall? I have a scale model of the thing. Very cool. Davy
  10. Labrat, do you have the World Class T5 or the non WC? Just curious. I know Mike D (73BOTIZ) had a Non WC and it did fine for his drag strip abuse for a while and yes, it smoke the tires all the time Davy
  11. Tim, Kevin makes some good points, especially since this engine won't be seeing over 5000 rpm. The Performers will also lose some weight from the front end. I bought some used Permoer RPMs from a guy in the forum last year, but have yet to install them. I like them just fro the looks! I figure that with 10:1 compression and all the other goodies I have, the cam should make the combo worth 350 hp at the flywheel. Good enough for my first engine. Good luck! Davy
  12. You're kidding right? There is no way that is a legal swap...at least not here in CA. Yes, they are prevalent, but not legal in the least. Texas might be different--let's move there. Davy
  13. You made the visible part of the fuel system very sano looking. I'm counting quite a few hoses too! Very nice install. Davy
  14. Man, I like your house too! Davy
  15. If the car runs fine and everything, I'm still not sure how you lose for $300. Otherwise, steer clear. Davy
  16. "Freshened up?!?" It looks as if you totally rebuilt the engine with new components! Was the plenum black when we saw it last at Rio Vista? BTW, I didn't ever thank you for letting me drive your car...THANK YOU! Best 11 sec car I ever drove. So smooth you'd never know it was as fast as it was. Even better that we had slowed down just before the police passed us... Davy
  17. Me too. If you end up with coil-overs, your problem can be easily fixed that way too I would not sweat 1/8 inch at all....you can't even see it with the naked eye. Davy
  18. http://www.zcarcreations.com/faq.htm Try emailing Craig and ask him--I know he used to carry a stainless set, but if he does not now, he may know where to direct you. Davy
  19. Mike, what's in the pic and what's in their catalog look totally different. Nice idea and it can be removed when necessary easily, unlike the armrest with the built in cup holders. Davy
  20. Yes, I have seen such shock absorbers on engines like diesels (still trying to figure out which ones...) in the past. I suppose it would work, but if you want some true stiffness with minor deflection, you can always go with poly urethane mounts available at Northern Auto Parts or Summit. There are guys running them here on the forum. I have a set, but I have no idea what the part numbers are because I bought them new from a member who accidentally purchased two sets. They are stiffffff.... Davy
  21. I posted something like that about a year ago, I guess. It had "garage" in the title. I also included pics of all sorts. Oddly, not too many responses Davy
  22. They are very nice cars, although they are pricey to fix. My family has owned SAABs in the past, but I went Volvo when I had the chance. Both from Sweden, both "quality" cars, both safe, but the Volvo was rear wheel drive Davy
