  1. Interesting thought. The mount should deform, but the seat certainly should not! My brother and I owned a Datsun 510 in high school. He was T-boned by a Ford LTD and the Recaro steel seat structure is what kept the door from really messing him up, or so a few said at the time. I can't remember if the mounts broke or not, but the seat was moved to the center of the car--that much was true! Thanks for the read. Makes one think about the Z... Davy
  2. This is completely true. From the article in the Nov 2008 issue of HOT ROD magazine, the price for this gem is below the other, more complete systems, but it's not quite as good as the other systems like the MassFlo EFI or Edelbrock ProFlo, etc. The main advantage besides the price is the compact nature and the fact it barely changes the look of an engine compartment, which is huge if there is a specific look you are going for; classic muscle car guys would like this product. Davy
  3. Haha! Well, at least this was a relatively EASY fix. Don't feel bad, I have kicked myself for missing simpler things in life Thanks for the update, but why are you running it for the last time this year??? Davy
  4. Most of it looks like Hwy 9 or some road way out there--it gets very dark and narrow in some places, but there is also section of grassy hills that looks a lot more East Bay. The scene keeps switching, so these are probably from different locations. Davy
  5. John & Jerry, The car is looking just too cool with the freshened up motor You guys are certainly an inspiration for guys that are looking to go fast I hope to meet you guys someday---I'm in Charlotte. I think there is a track in Lancaster, SC, fairly close to here, but I don't have any information on it. Davy
  6. Looks very respectable and classy. I think you guys did a great job Davy
  7. Hmmm, sounds like you will need to do body work using filler. Bummer. That book will help a lot with the DIY stuff and I think you'll find it very good reading too. So far, it's the best DIY paint & body book out there. I hope you find it helpful too. The dent puller tool (Ding King) does serve its purpose, so I'm not writing it off completely--it's still worth the price for what it does. Metal that has a sharp kink in it...well...that's not going to just "pop" out... Sometime I may get enough gumption to order some dent popping tools like the professional paintless dent guys use. Until then, things I can't bump out get body filler. Davy
  8. That's really the key in determining what direction you want to go in. If you plan on keeping the dash stock looking and want to save a buck, install the Datsun oil pressure sending unit and use the stock gauge. However, if you want to spice up the look of your dash with aftermarket gauges, then use a comparable sending unit. I'm going to try and use the stock sending unit and likely the stock gauge as per JTR. Simple and cheap. Keep in mind that many of these parts are 30+ years old. The risk is whatever you think it is Davy
  9. Haha! Hey, cool. I appreciate it, but at about $30, I'll probably just buy one---you need to tell me if that sucker works, though! Thanks a bunch though Davy
  10. Fair enough...you do have more hair than me Davy
  11. Scary. Sorry for leading you in that direction if it doesn't work. I'll still try it on my company car though Davy
  12. HAPPY BIRTHDAY, WARREN, AND HAVE MANY MANY MORE!! Remember the old racers never die, they just go faster! Davy
  13. Isn't awesome to get another space in the garage?!? I went from a packed two car garage to a packed three car, BUT I have space for my Z and then some I want to epoxy the floor too, but every time I look at all the junk, I go to the garage fridge and drink a beer--the feeling begins to go away... Nice! Looks like you Z is 'nesting' it's so comfy Congrats on the new garage. Davy
  14. Best simple bodywork book I have found yet is: How to Paint Your Car on a Budget by Pat Ganahl. I think creases are begging for body filler. You might want to try some body work tools and try to tap them out. Clearly, though, if you used the compressed air/heat method and were able to get most of the dent out, that's SUPER. I have to try it on my Civic and see if I can get it to work... Davy
  15. That's so wrong! Happy B-Day J! Davy
  16. Congrats, Hanns It will be grand! I wish I could visit Davy
  17. My thoughts too. I like the outcome. Looks so simple that a 6 year old could do it. "Runs? We don't need no stinkin' runs!" Cripes, man, that looks easy!!!!!!! Davy
  18. Not one positive comment? Have purchased many a product from them before, I would hesitate to say that it is anything other than misapplication. I have used products before that were good, but my application and prep work were the things that needed to improve, not the product! Hard to believe they would release a bad product or not test it out first???? C'mon! Davy
  19. Well, I think the work he did turned out great, but at least HE likes it I'd love to try something like that on a Z (but have it be a very tasteful wide-body instead). Davy
  20. Polarity, I just watched a dent erasing technique on YouTube that utilizes compressed air (it's very cold) and a hair dryer (warm air). The effect was stunning and it is by far the cheapest way to go that I have found. It may also be worth looking into. Just FYI. Davy
  21. I'm amazed at your abilities, Terry. I think you have it ALL down. I'm seriously in awe and hope that I'll be as good someday myself. Thanks for posting the pictures! Davy
  22. Impressive work, Ryan. Getting glass cut for the guages would be the pièce de résistance of the whole project. That would be sweet!! Davy
  23. NOW THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKIN' ABOUT!!! Nice job! Looks very even and "factory" colored Money well spent!! Davy
  24. http://classicdatsun.com/ I have purchased from Classic Datsun Motorsports and can vouch for them. Good outfit. Davy
