  1. It was never up. I started this project with my brother at the end of freshman year in high school. It is now my sophomore year in college. He lived 2 hours away from me for a long time and I was essentially 14 when I started out. So yes, it has been a long time. We are making blistering progress compared to the past. Partly compared to the fact that I now live ~30 minutes from the car, I now have money, and I now don't have a girlfriend. The last two are a function of each other. In any case, it really isn't that hard, somewhere about a year back though I decided to really go cherry. initially it was going to be a low cost swap with low cost parts. Somewhere along the line I went nuts and started throwing goodies at it. If this car was in my garage it would have taken MUCH less time to complete. Alas it isn't. I can't work on it any time I like which is limiting. For a long time the ~1:30 drive was a huge obstacle as well as matching schedules with my brother.
  2. Just saw the pictures! Nice buy man. Vroom Vroom. No CA smog!
  3. No. Which is why I originally wanted to go carb. I am sticking to it for now for simplicities sake, but do eventually plan to switch to EFI depending on my experiences and future motor plans.
  4. Out of all this thread, I found this photo to be the most useful to me personally: For a long time I have been looking for an attainable air dam to compliment the Gnose. I never really stopped to think that maybe I should be looking at more common air dams since the mounting points are shared. This brings me to my question. What air dams DID the 70's cars run with the Gnose? Which had the most success? Thank you all! I appreciate this thread and debate greatly.
  5. I think it is worth it. My setup is carb for now. Mainly for simplification. Eventually I want to switch to megasquirt. I would think EFI might be the better route though now in retrospect (I might still go EFI). If you want to dump it straight into the engine bay with the stock stuff, tweecer.com probably has a module that lets you crack the EEC-IV and tune to your hearts desire.
  6. Its the opposite for the Ford motors. Mexican blocks are desirable due to increased nickle content, or so they say. I agree with the possibility of the engine not swapping over. If there is a rebuild involved though it probably isn't a huge deal to swap blocks. I still think that the engine might very well be the same though (bolt pattern wise).
  7. I highly recommend searching and reading. The best bits are in the nooks and crannies. That being said, I went the "Alsil" mount rout and am using a jaguarsthatrun.com cross member to mount a stock T-5. Best of luck to you!
  8. Yes. Thank you for testing the amperage too by the way! I have my Taurus fan already mounted up, this controller thing has been in the back of my mind bugging me though.
  9. Ahhh women and cars, women and cars. What more can a guy ask for?
  10. Quick search on wikipedia for the 6G72 notes that it was offered in some RWD applications. I would look for one of those bell housings as a starting point and see what can be adapted.
  11. Do you have the highest output setting wired up though? Or are you running low speed only?
  12. Why not just make the cowl flip up on its own hinges rather than flipping the whole hood?
  13. I am completely lost when it comes to wiring diagrams and figuring out how to have a fan controller drive a fan that uses more amps than the rated controller. Once you get this one figured out, if you don't mind, do you think you could compile a quick items list so I can go about wiring up my Taurus fan? Thank you!
  14. I just picked my FG airdam up at the Grey Hound terminal. All in all I would say I am quite pleased. There was a bit of a shipping error as I live in CA and the airdam made its way to Louisiana but that was corrected by Grey Hound free of charge. Took a day or two longer, but no biggie. The craftsmanship is what I expected. Very good, BUT it will inevitably take some fine sanding and filling (a corner and the lip was a little damaged in transit [sprinkling of 1/64"-1/32" gouges]) to get the piece into a perfect paint able condition. All in all I would rate the experience with a solid B. Nothing went deathly wrong, just had to wait a little while longer. I give the airdam itself an A for construction. Value wise... A+. I have not attempted to fit this piece yet, nor will I attempt for a while, BUT it does look like it will fit up just fine.
  15. I shall measure everything and most likely photograph with the tape in the pictures. I ordered my set of ZG flares just moments ago. Hopefully they shall make it in time. If not I will proceed with out them, but it would be better to see the relationship between the tire and the fender first hand. I just ordered a used 255/40/17 and a 275/40/17 for measurements.
  16. Thanks guys. I will see if I can't order a set of ZG flares tomorrow morning (as per ZG flare suggestion... it really is about time I get these any way...). I am working on getting a junk 255/40/17 for picture and measurement purposes as well. Which source of ZG flares are most of you using or planning on running? I was thinking about using the ones located here: http://classicdatsun.com/ I think someone is also working on duplicating a rare wider rear flare as well...
  17. Okay guys. I know you all are anxious and I know this group buy is behind the time estimate. For those of you who were not sticking with the thread (I don't blame you!), the original time ended up getting pushed back a bit (post #261). Unfortunately there was a misunderstanding about offsets between the Rota rep and myself. The issue was corrected, but the estimated time became February/March. Now the better half of February has passed and you are all wondering what is going on, naturally. Thankfully, there IS good news. I called the representative just now to find out definitively what is going on, as I too seem to be kept in the dark when it comes to email only communication. Basically a pair of samples should be arriving to me this coming Friday. The first is the 17x9.5" -19 and the second is the 17x9" -13. The representative has let me know that both of these sizes will be available. Which is a big plus. I don't think it will cost any more than the original $750. I will do whatever I can to get those wheels on my car the day they arrive and confirm fitment. Once that is done, the rep let me know that they will go right into mass producing them and HOPEFULLY we can all get our set of wheels in a short time. I am terribly sorry for the long wait guys. I really am. I am doing the best I can to stay on top of this and I, as much as all of you, would love to get these wheels ASAP. Back in July of 2007 I never would have thought that this would take so long, but naturally it has. If any of you all would like to back out of the group buy, just let me know and no harsh feelings. I have not, and the rep SHOULD not have (if he did email me ASAP) taken any money from any of you. Once again, I am sorry for the delay and not updating this more frequently, but most of my time spent around this group buy has mainly been waiting and getting the same responses from the representative. Hopefully these wheels will come through quickly from here on out. If any one has any concerns at all, or comments feel free to post them here or contact me directly via the PM system. Thanks! -Chris
  18. Thats a bummer man. How are you going to fix that setup... it would need paint and a new fender or are you going to try and bend it back?
  19. How? Type the query and "hybridz"? I always thought the feature was to prevent the servers from becoming swamped. I would imagine it must be hard to process all these search requests. I also agree you could have been a bit more tactful. Heh.
  20. Interesting... so why don't we hear of them more. Basically I hear about TFS and AFR a ton, maybe Edlebrock every once and a while, but CHI. I have never heard of them around here. Just wondering.
  21. Thats a very good price if the unit is in good condition.
