  1. no Does anyone know about the 4v/cylinder heads for chevy 350's? I wonder if that keeps the engine small with more modern redlines. I think there is something about that in the JTR manual, mine is away though so i wouldn't know. Would be sweet though imho.
  2. I just came up with an idea. Would it make sense to create some holes leading form the top of the firewall into the space where the windshield wiper motor is? This would prevent pent up engine compartment air from creating lift and all kinds of bad things. The only two reasons i can think of not to do this would be: 1. Windshield wiper life could be shortened from excessive heat 2. Effects on windshield condensation (someone who knows more about this chime in but i think it might acctually act like a defroster in effect which is a double bonus....)
  3. Ughh major brain fart when posting this. Sorry tonycharger is right. the equation is Offset - Spacer/Added track = Overall Sorry im an idiot. Now i think this is right, i just got my +/- confused for offsets yar going nutz
  4. A positive offset is in mm how far from center of the wheel the hub attaches in the outside of the car direction. Thus a 8mm spacer or 8mm track on both sides would push the connecting point out +8mm and the +6mm offset would add to that making +14mm total explaining why it sticks out. What you need to get a -2 offset overall with that +8mm track would be a -10mm offset on the wheel.
  5. Just found another picture of the 01-04 r8 and it's front diffuser: http://www.mulsannescorner.com/audir8-01-3.html I see that the front diffuser is angled up towards the back. On a 240z where would the diffuser angle up? Right after the x-member? If it were angled up i think the angle would be too steep making it impossible to route air out of the engine compartment just creating build up. But maybe thats okay?
  6. Isn't about 0 offset correct for 8 inch wide wheels on a 240z. If so wouldn't you need a 35mm thick spacer to achieve that... Maybe i missed something?
  7. Ya i know in those applications hot air from the engine already has its own ducting and what not. But in the case of the datsun i was worrying that if i put a belly pan all the way under the engine compartment that i might end up restricting airflow and creative too much heat. I guess louvering the belly pan would defeat it's purpose though (by slowing down the underbody air flow)? or would the air be sucked out of the engine compartment aiding in cooling (killing two birds with one stone)?
  8. OO that first link looks like it will be a good one if we can find someone with a membership :S
  9. Was going to say that a 8 cylinder in a skyline would but completely wrong. Also i think it would be a 4.5l, a 5.3l, or a 5.6l because if im not mistaken those are the active nissan powerplant sizes for v8's (not that they couldn't make a new one). Does anyone know why everything is going i6 to v6 now? Lexus gs300 fromthe 2jz to a v6, skyline to a v6 (from what i read in this post). Whats up? is it for lower cg if so does the benefit really offset the cost of the extra two cams?
  10. Girlfriends dad has an 850 wagon with bilsteins sway bars and exhaust + intake. It is a pretty fun car. Change the ugly *** grill though and get urathane motormounts (apparently they have the motor mount problem). Nice car, get the 5 speed though for sure.
  11. R200 LSD is expensive (in longnose form any way) so it will run ya about $500-800 there is one on ebay now search "300zx LSD" if you are willing to pay that. If you want an open diff find a 280z the one with drum brakes and take that r200. Make sure that has a stick shift though because i believe r180's came in auto 280z's.
  12. Sorry i don't understand the fundamentals it seems between hubcentric and studcentric could someone please explain this to me and how it affects the creation of a spacer. Also does anyone know the width of the studs and the size of the lug nuts. (sorry to ask such a rudimentary question its just that i do not have a Z here!)Thanks
  13. Okay john you seem very knowledgable this is what im going to propose as the final idea could you please critique it. For the front: Air damn with belly pan connecting to bottom of the air dam angling down until it goes flat at the front x-member from there it will extend back to the firewall and stop. (suggest how to vent engine compartment air, louvers?) Middle: Nothing just floor boards Rear: Under differential pan, Pans sticking to rear control arms, and a diffuser like darius's angled at 7 degrees (is the 7 degree the mark i want?)
  14. Thats the picture the psot above refers to, and oh my that is manly looking
  15. Isn't it illegal to burn NiMH batteries they always have a warning or something. Not that i care or that it is a big deal just wondering. Also that would make a sweet muffler on my honda....... powered by yuban...... should make a good sound whent he Vtek kicks in. I don't know what im talking about too much sugar ignor it
  16. Wow genious i would of never thought of that.
  17. What do you want to know about it? If you want to know ratio just block one half shaft and mark the gear, see how many rotations to get the gear a full turn. Numbers like 3.36, 3.54, 3.7, 3.9, and 4.11 should come to mind. Also is the buldge of the housing offset to the drivers side if so it is an r200 if not it is an r180. Another way to count it out is simply to count ring teeth divided by pinion teeth. Any way if you were hoping for LSD i doubt it, no vented cover, open it up and check it out though.
  18. Impressive, just wondering this may be a stupid question, but why is the adjustment on the rear of the control arm longer? Is it because the front attachment isn't adjustable so the rear does the toe in/out. Good job
  19. of course you are allowed to say that, i live near you too. Do you fab good cages in your garage? Or not so good ones?
  20. Hi i was wodnering if any one knew the hub dimensions of the 240z front hubs. What is the diameter from big scallop to big scallop (ie the max), the diameter or the base of the cone in the center, and then the diameter of the top of the cone. MM is prefered but i wont get picky over milimeter/inch. I am trying to CAD out a spacer that will add about 37 offset and convert to 5 lug. Thanks (and i realize the 5 lug pattern can't go over the 4 lug)
  21. Huh intresting john about the foot under it thing. But isn't a belly pan a plus even if you can get your shoe under it because it w ill still be smoother then the bottom of the chassis? Maybe the belly pan section in front of the firewall can get that slight angle before the x-member then behind the x-member a set of louvers to let out pented up air. Also is vr8ed bellypan/diffuser at a good enough height? VR8ED do you have clearence troubles on the street (if you drive on the street)? Thanks
  22. Ya acctually can we start a list of all Bay Area Z members just wondering for information purposes.
  23. uh i don't know what to say to that. Are you serious about only driving Z's they are great cars and all but only ever? Did you just get your license or have you been driving z's for the past X years? sorry for the hijack hehe
  24. I got a Z in 2000 but it was a beater so don't worry i don't have your. Nice specimen that is good luck finding it. Side note: dont let your sentiment overrule your judgement price wise if you do find it.
