  1. I just read up on the entire thing. According to the CA DMV publications I do have to register my vehicle in the state and get a drivers license there as well. Bummer. Here's how it works if anyone cares. If I was still Active Duty Army I would be exempt as long as the vehicle is either registered at my permanent home address or the state of my Duty station. This does not apply to Reservist unless they are on some sort of Active Duty orders there and their home station is out of state, aka TDY. Individuals that are recently discharged from the military are exempt until they become gainfully employed in the state, as in a job, register to vote, or paying tuition. Then they have 20 days to change over. Out of state residents for college are also exempt unless over the age of 23. 23 and younger may still keep their out of state license and registration but over 23 and over have 20 days from either the start of the college or a job to get registered. 49 state emissions cars need to get the REG265F completed as well so that they can be registered in the state. Any vehicle with the 49 state emissions sticker with less than 7,500 miles may not be registered in the state. So, this all seems annoying. I haven't really looked up how to register it yet. I know that in VA you have to pay sales tax on the vehicle, even if you own it, along with paying again annually. I hope this is not the case. I am pretty certain that I am not changing anything, if I get stopped I am going to say that I am military and hope that covers it.
  2. Nice find. I went to the junkyard recently because I knew they had 2 Datsuns there, a 240 and a 260 that I wanted to pick apart. I got there and apparently they just smashed them. Procrastination got me again, damn.
  3. I thought about just getting my Purple Heart plates or the Iraqi freedom plate in hopes of not getting fucked with, But I like my vanity plate as it is. "TOOL BAG" Unfortunately if anything will help get me pulled over, that is probably the biggest. The other problem is I am no longer Active Duty, I am Reserve for now and chose to move to Cali just for a certain college I want to attend. Again hopefully I can still just forget about registering it there. I was pulled over in my 350Z with PA plates in Maryland and had to look up the regs on it but did find that it was ok, I think I need to go find those again and stick in the glovebox.
  4. Lololol. I actually think the seats are very comfortable. A buddy offered to get me new seats as a gift but I declined. Somehow my seats fit me absolutely perfectly. Part of the reason I fell in love with this car.
  5. Yeah, I will only be in California for a year at the most. I am not going to bother trying to get a CA license for that amount of time. Also It will not be my daily driver, in fact I will just be tearing it apart to do the coil over suspension upgrade anyways and whatever else I can get around to doing. I just don't want to be watching my back the whole time if I decide to take it out for a drive now and then. I am trying to stay as legal and whatever may happen with it I will just deal with as it happens. Thanks all, hopefully I don't run into too much trouble, although as of late it seams to find me anyways.
  6. You are right, I was entirely vague and lacking details. The car is a '76 and the engine is a LT1. It has dual exhaust running out the left and right side, and is louder than expected. It is pretty obvious that it is not stock. I can understand that Hondas and Nissans get away engine swaps when it is at least the same brand and the difference between engines is slight. But a 5.7 where a 2.8 is obvious. I was mainly just asking for those that do have swaps that it is blatant that "something" has been done is, how much do you worry when you see police? I am wondering legal or not, do you get nervous that you will get pulled over or have you gotten pulled over?
  7. Well for me, the dual exhaust, visible fuel cell and A1000 fuel pump from the back kind of screams "Modified." I am just hoping that I don't get pulled over every time a police officer is behind me.
  8. I found this pic of a color I would like, but then I noticed something. The turn signals are awesome, well not really turn signals I believe. I have a 280Z with this front air dam. I also still have the stock turn signals so I have these openings. I would like to change to these turn signals but for over $200 for a pair I may not go that route. But if I can find these I would love to go with this. If they are a type of fog light or extra brighter lights then it would be perfect. Thanks again and any help would be appreciated.
  9. I would like to hear some stories about getting pulled over for engine swaps. Why did you get pulled over, what made them check? Did you do it properly with a referee or not? What came out of it all. Things like this, kind of what to expect as I am finishing this project. Soon I will be scheduling a referee check and the moving to CA, wondering how much grief I will get as I drive and to and live there.
  10. I was mostly wondering about that hood. Size wise what are the dimensions.
  11. Post #2, the Silver Z. Who's is that? I am a fan of the blues posted, my next favorite color would be Candy Apple red.
  12. This is the new color for the moment and the First Start of the LT1. The MAF and O2's are not hooked up in this video so it sounds a little rough. It is also louder than I was hoping but oh well.
  13. If I get a chance I can come by next week to help out, you are pretty close to me. In Aberdeen atm. i will keep in touch.
  14. OK, so I was checking out the wrong diagram, sorry to pages open and I thought you were talking about 76 not a 71. Still though green wire is positive, and the other wire gets grounded. Here is something that will help you out on this. http://www.xenons30.com/files/1971%20FSM%20Supplement.pdf Check out xenon230.com for a lot of information. As for your car it is pretty simple, the green wire from the fuel pump just meets up with the black white wire from the ignition switch and just put a 20 amp fuse in there somewhere. Sorry if I confused but I hope I helped some. Let me know if you need any more assistance.
  15. I will attempt to help you as much as I can with this. It is hard to help exactly with you saying that there are sliced wires so it is hard for me to know what is hooked up properly or not. The black wire is the ground wire. It connects to almost everything back there. If you want you can just go ahead and ground that out somewhere or just connect it to another black wire in the area. The rear defogger, fuel gauge, rear lamp, and rear lamps are all connected to this same wire that has a body ground in the area as well as head up front for everything else. So ground out as you please. The green (which I think is actually green blue) wire is you hot wire. It leaves the fuel pump and meats with the fuel level switch at a four point square plug. From there it goes through a few junctions and eventually ends up at the Fuel pump relay. This is where you will want to test. Pull the plug and check this wire for continuity between it and the fuel pump. There should be 4 wires at this plug, the green (green/blue) a black white next to it, on the opposite side a White/Red and then either a yellow wire if it is auto or a black/yellow if manual. If there is no continuity there then just run a wire from you POS side of fuel pump right to there. Now things to know, The White/red that goes into your plug is the constant hot. The black yellow comes from the ignition from the Start position to give it power when cranking And the Black/white goes to another ignition relay. but this is basically your Hot in Run
  16. I have a driveshaft to a r200 from a 76 280Z four speed manual. I am not in your area but I will be passing through there in 2 weeks. let me know if this is what you need.
  17. You need to look up some wiring diagrams for the two of them and go from there. Try the downloads section, I believe in there somewhere is some info. Or best option would be the search funstion until you come across some diagrams.
  18. I wish I saw this post a while ago. That A/C delete set up is perfect. I made something "similar" that more or less works. I will have to search for this though.
  19. You have the same setup as I have. It is a lot easier than you would think. The problem being that you got rid of the dash wiring but I think I can walk you through it if you need. If you have the complete harness with fuse box from the LT1 then you are golden.
  20. Cheap android tablet is what i suggest. You can find Android tablets with 7 inch screen bluetooth, 4 or 8 gig internal, and Android 4.0 for $60. Plus those tablets have micro sd card and some with full USB for a thumbdrive or external. It is the system I am using.
  21. Some lady told me "Nice RX-7, I had one just like that." I tried to tell her and show her it was not a Mazda until she got very heated. I tried to walk away but she followed me to insist that I was driving a RX-7. Back when I first got the car, when I was 17 about 13 years ago, this chick flagged me down to compliment me and the car. Later we met up for some more "compliments." I knew then it was a good purchase and I would never get rid of it.
  22. I think you should refer to a Haynes manual, standard equipment for anyone working on a Z.
