In my mind, any girl out of my league is a lesbian and I have no chance anyways. Helps me through life sometimes. -
My reason is the fiberglass fenders I have has some fitment issues. Other than that I don't care fiberglass or metal. I just wish mine didn't need so much finesse to fit "properly." Either way, if you take care of your vehicle than there shouldn't be much issue.
-
I have fiberglass, and I would trade for metal in a heartbeat. But that is just me.

Has anyone been pulled over for engine swap?
_Donovan_ replied to _Donovan_'s topic in Non Tech Board
I left Active and now in Reserves. My girl will be going to DLI soon and I will be going to college in Fremont. -
I have everything fuel related including tank from a '76, just let me know what parts you need.
-
OK, thanks so much.

Interesting. I wonder if somehow that got retuned on my ECU, because I definitely do not have a SEL light hooked up yet, though it starts just fine. I should really look into that this weekend.

HAHAHaaa, too Awesome

I think this is all getting blown out of proportion. I agree with JohnC on some things though. When you see a new post that is something stupid simple and is fully explained in the service manual it is frustrating. And I don't mean frustrating that there are already posts like it but if the person asking the question couldn't figure out how to navigate the manual then what will happen when you actually do give them good advice or insight, will it actually be followed. You know that friend that has a bf/gf that is cheating and you tell them to leave that person and next week it is the same conversation, that is how I believe some people feel like here. That they are just wasting time answering questions that are beat to death or is found in a manual. Or if you look in the forum that the question is posted that there is a similar post a few threads down. The next thing, the search function. I used to hate the search function on here as well, then I realized that I was just using it wrong. I will tell you how I use it now and how it works for me, maybe it can help some or maybe not, who knows. I never just type in something in the search button at the top of the page, I go to the advanced search. For example if I want to search about RB26 swaps, I would go to advanced, then check "search titles only," then go down to the forum that I want to search in. For this I would search the forums that I feel the information would be in. I would choose something like "members projects," and do the search. Then I would open up the topics I think will be useful, Then I would do the same on the "Nissan 6 cyl" forums, an so on. I really narrow my field sometimes to make sure I find the topics that I feel will be relevant and it was worked out soooo well for me lately. I hope it will help you all as well, if not then yeah, Google that chit.

You may have seen it here. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/109284-starting-my-rb20-swap-soon/page__p__1021604__fromsearch__1#entry1021604

Well, lets start with the basics. First, what car do you have and what year? Was it running then stopped or has it bean out of order for a while? Where did you check spark at? Where did you check that you are getting fuel? Some of these may help us answer your question.

OK, I will attempt to help you, but I warn you that you should prepare for some flaming real soon. Please don't take this the wrong way but there has been a slew of new topics that seem like the same person keeps posting them. They all want to swap engine, want 300HP ish, family owns a shop, and somehow everyone has this magical $10k budget. Seriously, what is up with that? This is really starting to make me laugh when I see them. So, the first link I will post will be to a VERY recent post which many of us has posted other links inside of that should explain a lot if you look through them. Next, the L28ET will get you there just fine but you want to think about long term goals as well, as in are you really looking for a comfortable 300 or an uncomfortable higher HP. And finally, with a post count of 4 and asking about a topic that has been honestly beat to death, you ARE going to get some flak for. Some put on your big boy pants and take it like a man and welcome to the forum, glad to have you here and I hope this place and all of can help. First, check this thread out, the topic is similar and the links inside should cover most all of your questions and concerns that you have. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/109673-decisions-decisions/page__p__1025106__fromsearch__1#entry1025106 I really can not fully advise you on what engine to go with, I only have done one swap so far and it isn't to the full ready I want it to be. But for me the option was a good one for how cheap I got the package that I put in. Others would suggest different options and if I had to do over I too would have considered more of those options. I will try though to look into these concerns you have about the ECU and this package. ...OK, before I go any further, I just noticed your name and realized the thread I posted above is YOUR other thread. I do not believe this will go over well with some of the community. If you have still have questions please continue to post in the original thread that you started. I hate to be the bad guy here but you honestly need to keep your threads clean and organized, if you can't even do that not many will help and will doubt your ability to keep your research, planning, and work on your Z organized as well. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/105526-l28-to-l28turbo/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/109476-l28et-harness-question/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/109697-z31-ecu-setup-on-s30/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/108496-280zxt-ecu-compatibility/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/108541-l28et-240z-swap-wiring-help/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/108395-engine-changes-by-year-76-81/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/108138-setting-timing-for-l28et/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/107921-l28et-wiring-to-260z/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/107879-280z-turbo-swap/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/106458-building-up-an-l28et/ this one is good http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/50208-the-ultimate-l28et-guidewhat-you-need-for-350whp/ and this one is the best http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/107197-l28et-build/ http://xenons130.com/l28et.html http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/106533-l28e-turbo-w76-ecu-stock-injectors-need-help/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/103702-s30-wl28et-running-1260s/ this one worth a good look into http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/34469-a-quick-fi-and-ignition-280zxt-to-s30-turbo-swap-guide/ this one also a great place to start Here are members that have done this, check these out as well http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/55640-project240zcom-73-240z-83-l28et-megasquirt-sm2-autocross-car/page__p__504795__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry504795 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/74393-gollums-dd-l28et-75/page__p__707884__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry707884 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/94061-78z-l28et-ms2-edis-holset-swap/page__p__886131__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry886131 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/98087-73-240z-l28et-buildresto/page__p__920655__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry920655 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/60355-260z-w-l28et-video/page__p__554201__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry554201 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/69263-240z-l28et-swap/page__p__653644__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry653644 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/101758-1973-240z-l28et/page__p__953170__hl__l28et__fromsearch__1#entry953170 That last link you really want to check out, he recorded the whole process through a blog. Lots of pictures and information. What I am seeing through these threads is that 300 to 350 hp is no problem and most are running an aftermarket controller of some kind. All I did was search the Nissan 6 cylinder forum that this thread is even posted in, then went to the members projects section and searcher "L28ET" to get these links. I have well over 100 pages saved to my favorites on my browser, probably half to three quarters of them before I even purchased my engine. I am just saying, research is your friend, going to save a ton of time and money.

Also, no, I do not have any family. And yes, I am looking to get another car as well. You may laugh but I am looking for a used Prius as soon as I get settled in. -

_Donovan_ replied to _Donovan_'s topic in Non Tech Board
Haha, yeah. It is pretty worth it. I am 29 and still haven't been to any real college. And I chose WyoTech, California is the best option for me with availability of jobs, GI Bill stipend, as well as an Army unit that I am joining that has a position for me now plus will hold the Warrant Officer spot I need for when I go back to Active Duty. So as much as I don't like California, this looks like where I will be for now. If the Warrant Officer thing works and I can go there then problem solved, if not and I get transferred somewhere else then I am fine with that as well. But the Fremont location for WyoTech is a must at this point. -
Well, we are all young once, Good Luck. PS, I think you missed the point. There are safety reasons to upgrade or fix some things, or it doesn't matter if you have 100 or 1000 hp.

Since it is late and I don't sleep and have nothing else to do, I will post up some threads for you to check out. I am not trolling I am helping. The last thing I want to see is you get half way into the project and can't afford or don't have the time to finish. Then another Z on craigslist or under a tree. Z Swap threads This thread is almost exactly the same as your thread, even down to the $10k budget. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/108708-hypothetical-engine-swap-for-240z/ This is a good read http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/52263-newb-project-faq-what-engine-swap-how-much-will-it-cost/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/38577-s30-240-280z-chevy-v8-swap-faq/ http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/106858-planning-a-conversion-how-much-might-i-pay/ more threads on cost, One thing to remember that anyone posting just a few parts with low numbers are probably leaving out the little things here and there that really add up. This is probably first thread you need to read on it. http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/2777-how-much-did-everyone-spend-on-their-v8-conversion/page__p__19937__hl__spend__fromsearch__1#entry19937 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/79965-average-build-cost/page__p__758959__hl__cost__fromsearch__1#entry758959 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/21083-whats-the-avg-cost-for-the-v8-swap/page__p__156496__hl__cost__fromsearch__1#entry156496 http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php/topic/2374-240z-v8-conversion-cost-and-time/page__p__17114__hl__cost__fromsearch__1#entry17114 Now, most every thread will give you the number one piece of advice, Buy the book from Jags that Run. It is only about $35 and will tell you almost everything you need to know. You can then use that to virtually plan out the car. Now I will give you some of my expenses, just to give you a heads up where my money went. I have a LT1/4L60E in mine. I have a grand in the fuel system and I do not have it the way I need it. Not where I want it, but how I need it to be. You have to buy the complete exhaust, headers to thee tips. $300+ for headers and around $450 for the rest of the exhaust, which I think I got a good deal. A few hundred on a base tune if you run a computer and I suggest another tune when it is running which should be another $200. However or whatever you will use to shift it will cost money. I am using GPS speedometer which is $300 and in my opinion the best way to run it. The mounting kit will be about $150 or more. The custom driveshaft will be about $400. The cooling system I believe I have $400 or more into. I probably have a few hundred through trial and error to get the mounting of the alternator and serpentine built hooked up. Wiring costs, materials, tools, different things all add up quickly. This also didn't mention the engine and transmission. Then, on top of all this you have to register it, take it to a referee station, and get insurance on this. You can tell your inurance that you didn't swap it out, but if you have an accident you may have some explaining to do. My point of all this basically is to say don't focus on the engine just yet, also planning out the entirety of what needs done and what you want done will save you time, money, headaches, and safety. Good luck with everything regardless and search around, there is A TON of info here.

I didn't say anything about which motor to swap, There are too many threads with almost exact wording of questions like yours. Let's put it this way, I had a wonderfully driving '76 280Z. I decided that it was time to do the V8 conversion. So I started there. Now I have a V8 280Z that I am scared to drive or hit the gas to hard for fear of breaking something, not slowing down in time, or spinning out around a corner by just downshifting. Now I need to put my attention to those issues, which prolongs the build and adds more money. As for tacking it to a track, you will get so much more speed around a road course by upgrading breaks and suspension. Think of it, if you can wait an extra 2 seconds before getting on the breaks for a turn, or because of handling you can take that turn at 45 instead of 35, then you will be so much faster out of the turns and around the track. Not to mention if you upgrade all that first, when you do go bigger engine and power then you don't have to worry about babying it so not to break those half shafts. Also $10k budget. hahahhahhahahhahahaahahhahahahahhahahaah hahahahhahahahahhahahhahahahaaha hahahahhahahahhahhahahhaa Get my point?

With that money, I suggest body and suspension work. Build the car up with coilovers and better brakes and body work. Only after all that is up to the highest level you ever want, then engine swap. I did it backwards, and I regret that.
