SSflyer
So as I was leaving the drug store this morning, I start the car, back out of my spot, pull forward a couple feet, when some nob sitting alone in a PT Cruiser, in the passenger seat no less, does a nitrous purge as I drive past. I almost stopped to ask the guy what he was thinking, did he really want to race across the Walgreens parking lot? I'm sure that a PT on the bottle is probably pretty fast, at least as fast as say a new Cavalier, but to me, putting nitrous on a PT is a prime example of polishing a turd. There's a guy at work that's been talking too, (also a PT owner) and he thinks his PT with a chip and header would give me a race. After all, the chip & headers gave him at least 70 more wheel hp, on his butt-o-meter anyway. I see a disturbing trend starting....
naviathan
Doesn't matter if it's a hybrid or stock. I get the same ignorant people driving around in my 81zx DD. Those are the people who feel they have something to prove to everyone they see with sporty looking car. The people you want to race are the ones at the track, not on the street. The real talent and power shows up at sanctioned events.
Cody 82 ZXT
Back when my car wasn't in paint jail i used to get all kinds of crazy reactions.
Lewis Maudlin
One day I accepted a challenge from a Rodder in an old school rod with no hood, a big block and huge MT's. It was until the top of third gear that my little Z pulled away. The next day, a car pulled up beside me on a four lane revving, squealing its brakes and revving some more. It was a bunch of idiot kids in thier mom's cadillac STS. I ignored them. Why bother.
veritech-z
I had the manager of a local wheel rental shop roll up on me in his S13 hatch with knock-off SSR Professor type wheels on it to tell me he liked my "Advans"...I don't have Advans, my car has Impuls on it, but it led to a conversation through the window during which I found out he knows a guy I used to work with that has a 260 with triples and a dual exhaust. I told him to pass on the message that I said hi, and took off. I don't really drive my car enough to get this type of thing much, but I suspect that given the nature of my paint and half done fascia project that I would probably end up talking to more than my share of crazy guys... 280zwitha383
Not completely on topic but my friend has a ZX2 (escort) that has the most horrific ricer exhaust on it. He knows the thing isn't fast, his dad has a s/c early 2000 Corvette that'll break the tires loose if pushed past half throttle. Anyway, it is such a riot to ride around in it because he acts like he's picking on Camaros and anyone else we might come across. It's soo funny to rev at them with the exhaust like it is and of course everyone in a domestic cars wants to spank the rice so they all play along. It might be more fun than actually beating them in a faster car. Maybe you would have to be there....
Two40MuscleZ
I have found this to be true; If your car looks even remotely quick, some idiot out there is going to challenge you...its just that simple! Its as though, he has to prove something to himself. There is always going to be another car just a bit quicker and a bit cleaner than yours. However, if you build a Z, or any car for that matter, with an excess of 650+ HP, there is no race! Most cars on the street are warmed over 350cid "Posers" with maybe a cam for attitude, and a set of exhausts that make them sound mean and throaty. So they bluff and have the need to race. Thats just dumb!
Austin240Z
This is my favorite idiot racer story.... OK, so about a year ago, my good friend andrew and I were in his Silvia(S13, Silvia front bumpers, but still a stock KA) this car is about 130hp to the wheels. The Silvia's got a custom made cat back exhuast that used to be on our friend Sam's 240sx, untill Sam blew up his motor at 150mph running, moonshine instead of gas, while racing a ferrari(ferarri part may have been BS, i never saw the other car). A little hard to beleive yes... but the crank was shaped like a "U" when I saw what was left of the motor so I beleive him. Pretty much ALL of the #2 piston went out the exhuast as well as a 5 or 6 foot flame. Needless to say, this muffler doesnt do much "muffling" it's freaking LOUD! We dyno'd this car, stock with the exeption of the catback and a shortram just to get an idea of what we were starting with. The car was loud, and sounded like a jet , especially when you stepped out of the small part of the garage where the dyno was. There were a bunch of guys working on some pretty heavily modified civics on the other side of the building who litterally came running when they heard his car. Here's a bid of one of the dyno runs if you're interested. I always thought it sounded better in person though. This car is basically STOCK, it is NOT fast, dyno sheet said 132hp was the max if i remeber correctly.... it's been a few years... Sorry for the long setup, but back to the story. He and I were in his car, Silvia front, sounds pretty mean... but i's a STOCK KA motor... no turbo, no nothing. We're cruising through trafic, i dont remember why... when what do we see? An unrecognisably generic Sedan, probably a Geo or a corolla... it's got the clasic "dumb ricer" stickers, "Type R" "VTEC" "APC", it had a BUNCH of flame sticers, badly done pinestriping sticers... and ofcourse, my all time favorite, the generic, double decker, APC wall-mart wing. Stock exhuast. Steelies. LED washer fluid sprayers. Classic "Dumb Ricer" all show, no go. And there wasnt much to the "All show part" anyway. Like I said, Andrew's car is really loud, so everyone on the road probably saw us coming, and you can be sure this guy did. We hit a red light. we pull up to the line, he pulls up too... we're not racing, we just happend to be the first ones to the light. When he pulled up, he didnt pull up all the way, we couldnt see the driver. What ever, we really didnt want to see him, or any more of his car after the short laugh we had when we first saw it. The light turns green and Andrew puts his foot, 1/3rd to half of the way down on the pedal... we pull away form the light, the other car does too, but we're pulling away rather quickly.. though we arent trying, in about 6 seconds we're atleast 5 or 6 car lengths ahead... we're coasting now... and he starts inching closer to our car... very slowly.... then suddenly we hear this distinctive "TSSSSSSSSS" sound and the car behind us starts moving about 5mph faster... slowly passing us... while we're just coasting.. Andrew and I look at eachother... then at the speedometer which reads "45mph" I look back at Andrew and ask, "did you just hear...?" "yeah" he says quickly... "So he just...?" I said "yeah" he responds again. Then we both bust out laughing "he just sprayed nitrous to get past us while we were coasting at 45!!!" Classic I love telling this story, in part, because, you know, when that guy or girl got home, they called everyone they had ever met and said "Hey man, I just beat a Silvia, and we were both doing 120 miles an hour, and we both sprayed, and i beat him dude!" hope you enjoyed this story as much as I enjoyed experiencing it. CORPCRIM
One time I was teaching my GF to drive stick and when we were at a red light these jack a** guys pulled up next to us in a 5.0 mustang. They kept reving at us but i just told her to ignore them and let them be stupid. Well she didnt listen to me and she revved back at them and nodded at them like she wanted to race. so when the light turned green they punched it while my GF just started going like any normal person would. The mustang had just passed the intersection when BOOM!! their motor blows. I'm sitting in the pass seat just laughing while my GF drove passed them yelling I BEAT YOU!!!. They were sooo pissed. That was probably one of the greatest moments ever for me.
SteelToad
... If your car looks even remotely quick, some idiot out there is going to challenge you... It doesn't necessarily even have to look good. I had a 63 Chrysler with four doors, oxidized green paint, and a back window starting to milk over with age. People would still rev it next to me when they heard a beefed up 383 with duals. big-phil
I was getting gas yesterday (Saterday) and a kid in a 240sx was pulling out, as he went by he reved the motor hard so that his blow off valve went off. I think he won that race, because I was still filling the tank, and could'nt get in the car in time?

ULISES
Lets see.. When I'm driving on the streets I have most imports go around the Z, some domstics too..My car is loud...so thy know its not an L series making that noise.. Yesterday (saturday), I went to pick up my clutch to my parents about a 1:20 drive..On the way back I spotted a civic hatch 92 to 95 racing he's friend on a mustang 5.0 88 to 93...we had to enter a freeway and I got on it a little bit to catch up to freeway speeds, They got on it too but stayed about a 1/4 mile away......then I just cruised at freeway speeds, well they catched up and the hatch was like 10 feet from my rear so I pulled to the right lane so they could pass me...I think they were trying to race me cause they slowed down, after about 5 mins of no action they took off. I do get lots of ppl passing me so fast when im doing limit speed... I have only got to play with two nice cars a 06 vette wich was an easy kill and a new supercharged cobra with some upgrades like two weeks ago, My clutch is dead.I startd on 4th gear due to the clutch, I had lots of 3rd left..I slowly pulled from him...When we hit a town he's girl told me thats a fast car and they guy gave me the thumbs up...I just said to myself, Imagine if I had a clutch!!! SHADY280
i like screwing with 600cc minus sport bikes. if they are over 600 im screwed. they tailgate you thinking theyll get past you on the highway on ramp, well that is until i put it to the wood. the look on there faces is just great. highway ramps are the only time i get to have fun around here. its just unsafe otherwise. EMWHYR0HEN
I know this may sound weird, but I get more crazy people tyring to race me in my brothers 87 4 door, bone stock integra than my Z. There are plenty of people who try to creep up and check out the car before they try to mess around, but they usually dont recognize what kind of car it is and then they just back off, lol. Two40MuscleZ
I apopogize for not posting this earlier...I'll be brief; Clear mid afternoon, traffic med to light, heading Eastbound 60 Frwy. thru Ontario. I'm doing 70 in the #2 lane, when Two "clowns" pull up next to me in the #1 lane driving a early 70's Goat (GTO). They shadowed me for the better part of a half mile. So, I conveniently unholstered my off duty weapon and laid it on the passanger seat...you never know! Anyway, the driver down shifts and starts goosing the gas. I just looked over and smiled. The passanger yells out "you think your fast"? I laughed and shook my head no. He starts to laugh, and says that peace of rice s**t, go for it...and thats just what I did...I held up my badge and told him to pull over. If I only had my camera phone out because the look on his face was pure Kodak Moment! He slams on the brakes, almost gets rear ended, swings in behind me and immediately exits on the first off ramp. Now thats comedy! I laughed all the way home. In fact, I'm still laughing.

wheelman
Last year I was on my way to an Auto-X event and passed a mid 90s camaro on the freeway. Didn't really think anything of it but kept my eye on it just in case as a young guy was driving. Well this guy followed me to the Auto-X event and as soon as I shut down and got out he was there asking me to pop the hood so he could see the V8. He bugged me that entire day and was at the next event asking if I would give him a ride. I didn't want to, looked like he hadn't showered or brushed his teeth in weeks, so I gave rides to some family friends and my daughter. Anyway this a$$hole waited until I was working the course then scratched "F**K YOU" in the rear light panel. Not big enough that I noticed it right away but I know it was him. So, yeah my hybrid has attracted some crazy people. Nobody bothers me on the street though, I've had a couple guys follow me wanting to race until I get on it a bit then they always keep their distance. I get more attention when I'm in the Mustang. It's a 93 5.0 convertible thats stock except for dual exhaust, it writes checks it can't cash. One day I was at the local hydraulic supply store and a guy in a civic pulled in and bought a pair of sun glasses!??!? Well I pull out and he follows close until we get on the freeway, then he gets next to me and revs a couple times, I can hear his BOV so I think "HMMM, ricer boy wants to play" and slam the petal to the floor. The mustang shifts down and starts to accelerate and this Honda takes off like a rock from a sling shot. I got played big time. Turns out that civic is owned by the owner of a local tuner shop and puts out somewhere around 500hp. I don't think I could have even taken him in the Z and it's a lot faster than the mustang. SilentNight1647
Yes, I do beleive Hybrids attract crazy people their have been several times I have been "challenged" by all sorts of stuff from a primered up 2g eclipse to a '70 'Cuda I don't often oblige but on occasion I do indulge in a quick highway pull. The one that sticks out in my mind is the guy who claimed to "Own The Streets". I was at a gas station filling up and I see this 2g Eclipse all primered up and body kitted and the driver is showing it off to a pair of girls when he saw me. This guy had balls enough to waltz over to my car and lean on my fender and ask me if I thought I was fast, I told him no and to remove his arse from my car and go away. He got all upset and walked back over to his car, as I was getting into the drivers seat he yelled "I'll find you on the highway I own these streets!" Well it impressed his two 15 year old groupies so I just let it go. Later that night I was driving back home and he pulls up behind me revving his motor and swerving. After about a mile he gave up and sped past me only to slow down and start honking and swerving like he was going to hit me. I noticed his groupies were in the car and I was sick of it so I waited until he tried to jump on it and I put it to the floor in 5th gear which mind you isn't exactly a power making gear for me especially only going 65 turning 2.5k so I pulled a few car lengths on him and shut down well after my speedometer had bottomed out (what the hell is the deal with that damn 85mph speedo anyway) he does the ricer flyby and gets pulled over by the cop that always waits past the overpass where my exit is. I drove by and pointed and laughed, he flipped me off and I noticed his two groupies were sitting in the back ofthe cop car, I guess he didn't own the streets after all.
