A worker died after being trampled and a woman miscarried when hundreds of shoppers smashed through the doors of a Long Island Wal-Mart Friday morning, witnesses said.

The unidentified worker, employed as an overnight stock clerk, tried to hold back the unruly crowds just after the Valley Stream store opened at 5 a.m.

Witnesses said the surging throngs of shoppers knocked the man down. He fell and was stepped on. As he gasped for air, shoppers ran over and around him.

"He was bum-rushed by 200 people," said Jimmy Overby, 43, a co-worker. "They took the doors off the hinges. He was trampled and killed in front of me. They took me down too...I literally had to fight people off my back."

Nassau County Police are still investigating and would not confirm the witness accounts. The Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death. Police did say there were several injuries but weren't more specific.

Jessica Keyes was among the shoppers. She told the Daily News she saw a woman knocked down just a few feet from the dying worker.

"When the paramedics came, she said 'I'm pregnant,'" Keyes said.

Paramedics treated the woman inside the store and then, according to Keys, told the woman:

"There's nothing we can do. The baby is gone."

Before police shut down the store, eager shoppers streamed past emergency crews as they worked furiously to save the store clerk's life.

"They were working on him, but you could see he was dead, said Halcyon Alexander, 29. "People were still coming through."

Only a few stopped.

"They're savages," said shopper Kimberly Cribbs, 27. "It's sad. It's terrible."

I was actually watching a whole collection of these videos last night on the Smoking Gun. People go insane about this stuff.

Haha! I was watching the same series too.

"We have ~34 LCD televisions at this price" ...meanwhile there are 100's of people outside clamoring for them. What the hell are the people thinking arriving late as the ~500th person? Do they think they will be one of the first ~34? ...just push your way to the front of the herd. :banghead::bonk:

It is the stores' fault for allowing this to happen anyway. They should had plenty of security for this. It happens somewhere every year. You can bet the lawyers are circling above and the Walmart lawers are going to look for settlement.

I will have to disagree with this, why?

What would they do tear gas the crowd, rubber bullets? Come on if you want to stay free act responsible.

If I had been around that poor woman, I would have shielded her with my own body,,,,,,,,,,,,, sad,,,very very sad...

Makes me want to kick tards in the nards.

I live about 30 minutes from the Green Acres mall where the death happened and worked there when younger. It's always been a tough mall with lots of gang activity. In the 80's it was the local car theft capital with 12-15 cars a day disappearing from the parking lots.

It's a shame that a young man lost his life. I think that Walmart needs to rethink their sales strategy for the future to avoid this.

I work at a walmart too and we had a meeting about what had happened. Im a cashier and i got to see people run around the store knock things over hit people and fight over things all day long. It isnt worth it to me to go through all that for anything. I just waited to my shift was over waited 5 minutes and bought my camera i wanted. Lucky no one got hurt at our store, well... a few kids got ran over by shopping karts and someone spilled something and a few people fell. Blitz day is crazy though.

Happy Holidays To All

Carfan.

Local news reporting that the store did try to close. They told the shoppers there was a fatality and the store was closing. People wouldn't leave. One person was interviewed saying she was on line to get into the store since 4AM and wasn't about to leave without first finishing her shopping!

I dont see how people dont realize they are trampling someone.

I would have locked down the store and reviewed the security videos. Then found the people that initially pushed him down (even the people at the front that didnt stop).

And what was this all for? A bunch of electronics and crap? It is all about "Me, me, me, get the TV I want, get the IPOD I want!" Its sickening.
