19 and I'll be that age for the rest of my life, no matter how old I get.

You would be suprised and what kind of milage that Caddy 16 can get. They shut off a bank of cylinders (or two sides of 4) to get some good milage. The Z06 Vette can get 30mpg now. Its all about part throttle tuning.

If I ever manage to get this damn turbo B-series motor in Honda, we shall see if it sounds good. It has a proper exhaust and the turbo should quiet it down some. I still say a 3 rotor rotary is one of the best sounding engines I've ever heard. You also forgot the awesome V12 and flat 12 sounds.

Really easy. Just watch how much dry ice and water you put into a container, because that affects how quickly they go off (or rather exceeds the holding pressure of the container). They make an awesome boom that you can really feel.

From what I remember, the 3rd gen RX7 and MK4 Supra both had a sequential setup. The Z is done in a more traditional way (as traditional as you can get with twins). Hopefully, to answer your question, I'll relay what my friend said about his Supra. He has the ability to change from sequential to standard (by changing a fuse or two), so he can tell the difference. The sequential had more lag, but got him better gas milage, because he wasn't in the second turbo's boost as often. With the standard setup, boost came on sooner, making more power earlier in the rev range. Maybe someone here with a little more experience can validate what I said, or correct it. Hope this helps. I also believe there's a huge MK4 Supra site with a ton of info.

I really wonder if the guy survived that last blast. That was insane. It is sad though. Too many people hurt and 22 too many dead. If you want to experience something like that without having to worry about the fire, make some dry ice bombs. Two or three of those going off at the same time will really make you feel it in the gut and chest. I may have disliked my physics teacher, but we did have some fun.

My friend has a simple system that comes on by switch or by full throttle. He uses nitrous to run through the system and he noticed quite a difference. I'd much prefer a water/alchy injection system though. You can run more boost on cheap gas. Just my 2 cents

Someone actually told me that the type of drifting these guys are doing originated in earlier Japanese racing. It was slower, yes, but it became an excellent way to block a following car through a corner. I view the drifting phenomenon as what snow boarding did for snow sports. It wasn't truly about going to fastest down a hill, but rather who could do some insane tricks with some style thrown in. Don't be mislead, because any good drifter is extremely talented. If you can find a video that shows their footwork with what their car is doing, than you can see how quick and controlled they must be to do some of things they do.

I don't know if you guys saw this already, but I posted the dyno run. Mods included poorly tuned Predator chip (see a/f), Densecharger intake, and JBA shorty headers.

Well that is a horse, but its not supercharged with quad cams Want more power out of a Focus? Put the new Cobra motor in there and you'll have all you will ever need.

We actually went over that in a physics class, believe it or not. A study showed that the return on NASA spending was something like 8 to 1. The money that our government puts into NASA, it gets something like 8 times the amount back. That's a lot of money.

You should get John C. over here to explain how to do a good prank. I heard some really good ones when I was down in LA at Tim's BBQ.

There was an interesting show on "The Learning Channel" about how the space program is going to have to deal with scrap metal moving so fast that it could blow huge holes in the side of a shuttle. They went on to talk about how the NASA guys were working on energy shields and such to block against a collision. Sounds like Star Wars is closer than we think (especially with that space ship flying out towards Pluto powered by an ion drive propulsion) EDIT: Looks like than was my 500th post. Looks who's the guru now Guru: only because the site says so Idiot: definitely

They should have some pictures on the website I posted. Instead of a poppet valve, on a normal engine, it uses a oval-type ball that spins in place of the poppet valve. There are openings on the roller valve that allow things in and out of the motor.

Anyone here ever try water/alcohol/methanol injection?
Moridin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
Chevron puts small amounts of Techron in their gas. Enough to be effective, I don't know. As for the different positions and mixtures for the water/alcohol injection, I will have to look. I remember Anarky on the AEM forum listed a bunch of that stuff. I'll go through the links again to see if I can find anything. -
That's cool. I guess I just used the Rich Girls subject line, because that's the name of the show from which I watched a situation that really pissed me off. I was hoping that you guys would sympathize with the shear autmotive stupidity Mr. Hilfiger put forth on my television. The Paris Hilton thing is definitely an interesting turn on the converstation. I don't mind, but I just didn't see how it went that way. Guess I'm a little thick headed at the moment, because I have so much school work to do and three project cars.

I swear I remember reading somewhere that you're allowed to have limo tint behind the driver side and passenger side windows. The driver and passenger windows can have no more than a 45% I believe, or basically enough to allow an officer to look into the vehicle. The front window can have a 6" piece across the top. I have limo on my two side rear windows (on the Honda), and have yet to be bothered about it. I'm going to do my rear window on the Civic too, because being the inch lower that I am, I'm blinded by everyone's headlights.

I guess I missed something, but I'm not sure how it went from Tommy Hilfiger talking about how the Enzo wasn't good enough to the Pam and Tommy video. Actually I'm not even sure why the topic went to the Paris Hilton video for that matter. Anyone care to explain?

There was a group buy a while back on svtperformance.com. Let me get you the link, because it had one of the techs, who helped develop the system, giving information. ...Ok, here's the link http://www.svtperformance.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=57919&highlight=group+buy

Anyone here ever try water/alcohol/methanol injection?
Moridin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
They actually use both propane and nitrous in diesel engines. That episode of Trucks! that I was refering to had Stacey doing both on a big diesel Dodge. I wonder how feasible it would be to inject liquid oxygen The reason for using methanol or ethanol is to cool the intake charge (keeping it cool enough not to detonate at high boost i.e. high temp) more than anything. It just so happens that methanol and ethanol both add chemical energy into the combustion chamber. If you just want to add some octane points than water is fine. You could use nitrous with a turbo (helps to get motor going until it hits boost), but you don't need to lean it out any further as you already have the added air from forced induction. Like I said above, the methanol/ethanol/water are most importantly used to cool the intake charge allowing you to run more boost (instead of paying to keep that nitrous bottle filled - which I think is more expensive than any of the alcohols, and most definitely water). -

Propane has a greater chemical energy density then any of the above alcohols mentioned. Problem is, I believe you need a heater to make it into a gas, because I don't believe it is combustible in liquid form. Propane works awesome on diesels from what I've read (and seen on Trucks! TV). I'm not sure about this, but from what I remember, propane may not have the extensive cooling properties of methanol. I guess I better go bother some of my chem teachers to find out. The rubbing alcohol idea is a good, but I remember hearing a reason(s) not to use it. It was either something about being too expensive, or it didn't work as well as the methanol (cooling or chemical energy). -

If you keep the methanol close to the throttle body (after the intercooler) and in a seperate plastic system with some good lube, you should not have a problem. It does become acidic, but as long as its kept moving through the intake tract and never let it sit, you should not have a problem. Read those links on the AEM site. That guy explains a ton and lets you know the pros, cons, and what has happened to him. -
Someone also mentioned making sure your grounds were good. That could definitely keep your wipers from going anywhere quickly.

Oh...the methanol, as I understand it, is not as bad as some say. Just treat it very carefully and you'll be fine. The stuff you really want to stay away from is toluene. That stuff can be very bad, but it does make excellent octane booster from what I've heard. Ethanol is another alternative. Here's a link explaining a little development in alternative fuels (including methanol and ethanol) http://greennature.com/article243.html This quote is pulled from the link http://www.energy.ca.gov/glossary/glossary-e.html and it says this about alcohol: "ETHANOL (also know as Ethyl Alcohol or Grain Alcohol, CH3CH2OH) -- a liquid that is produced chemically from ethylene or biologically from the fermentation of various sugars from carbohydrates found in agricultural crops and cellulosic residues from crops or wood. Used in the United States as a gasoline octane enhancer and oxygenate, it increases octane 2.5 to 3.0 numbers at 10 percent concentration. Ethanol can also be used in higher concentration (E85) in vehicles optimized for its use." http://hypertextbook.com/physics/matter/energy-chemical/ says that ethanol has a chemical energy density of 29.7MJ per Kg and methanol has 22.7ML per KG. I'd browse those links I posted above from the AEM site, as they may contain a little more information about the chemical makeup of different alcohols and why methanol was the fuel of choice. My biggest guess is its cooling properties outweigh the better chemical energy density of ethanol (maybe price too?) The more I find out, the more I'll let you know.
