Anyone here ever try water/alcohol/methanol injection?
Moridin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
I'm not quite sure. I know you need to buy a lube of some sort so the methanol won't eat through the pump. Methanol should not be that expensive. Maybe $5 a gallon or so. Sounds like a lot, but you don't need much to cool the intake charge and supplement your fuel system. Browse some more of that AEM board. There is a ton more stuff by Anarky and the details. -
I had a lady like that, who stuck me in the middle of an intersection while she was talking on her phone and trying to make a U-turn. The light went red while I was waiting, and oncoming traffic had to sit and wait for her. I usually don't say much (bad karma catches up with people), but I couldn't let it go. "Get off your f****** cell phone, lady!!!" was what I let out. Boy was she pissed, as if I did something wrong. I got the finger and everything. It was pretty sad. Well, goes to show what happens to "intelligent" people.

I hope you didn't park it on Del Playa (spelling?) during Halloween. I heard the cars were destroyed. I didn't get a chance to see, because I didn't want to put up with 10,000 hammered people on one street.

I also read an article on a new drag car with a turbo NSX V6 in the back. I'm pretty sure their ideas came from "AnArkey" (the guy that wrote all those posts which I linked above). Basically, they ran a second set of injectors right behind the stock placed ones. They were running some insane amount of boost with no intercooler. The methanol injectors fired after the gasoline ones to cool the intake and thus the intake charge. I guess this had some serious impact, enough which allows them to run insane amounts of boost without the use of an intercooler (I hope I'm not wrong about the intercooler bit. I'll have to dig up the Super Street issue it was in). -

Here are some links to a Supra owner that had a really good experience with alchy injection: http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=552&highlight=methanol http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1407&highlight=methanol This one is friggin' awesome: http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1420&highlight=methanol http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1449&highlight=methanol http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1515&highlight=methanol http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=1754&highlight=methanol http://forum.aempower.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=715&highlight=methanol -
He used to own a few and said they did very well. I'm not sure, because I've never seen them in action. I guess a check to a few Vette websites should be in order.

I actually talked to Darius a few months ago. He said the flares were coming along, but wouldn't be done until Thanksgiving or the end of the year. Other than that, I haven't heard anything. I do know that one of guys in that bike group died in a Corvette accident. It hit most of the "Rat Pack" pretty hard from what I understand.

Call someone like Stillen or other big companies that you can find on the internet. Try google or some other search functions to get the number and/or lists of other people that may know.

My neighbor was talking about using an older Vette motor. He said they were similar and may work. You might want to look into it.

I was trying to do some homework, but also had the TV on for backround noise (don't ask, I'm weird). That show Rich Girls was on. The show that follows around Tommy Hilfiger's girl and her friend. Well, the preview for the next show had Mr. Hilifiger at the Ferrari dealership looking for a new car. The cut to a seen showing him in an Enzo saying: "Look how cheap it is, it doesn't even have push button windows." To say the least, I was about to bash the TV. AAAAGGGGGHHHHH!!!!!!!!!! That is just a slap at Ferrari heritage right there. Why don't you go buy some Maybach and leave the real cars to the rich people that know what they are about. Better yet...buy the car and give it to me because you think it should be more plush. I think I'm done ranting. I'm going to go bash my head on something to let the rest of my disgust out.

Any news of how the project is coming along? I was reading their website and it said they should have had a prototype for ealry fall. Anyone know anything?
-
I just started looking back through the posts and only the most recent of his posts have been deleted. I don't know what went on. I wonder if anyone knows anything.

I don't why more people haven't said a rotary. Small, light, compact, and supposedly very reliable when NA. RX8 rotary anyone?
-
I don't know if something happened (a clash of egos or what), but I started noticing his posts have been "DELETED." Did he get pissed and leave the site or something? I hope this is not a touchy subject, but I'm curious and thought I may have missed something.

My first guess would be no. It depends on the engine code (350Z is VQ and 300ZX is VG if I recall). I'm pretty sure it doesn't fit, but you never know what it might take. Check the web, or call a Nissan tuner.

IS this a real anti-lock retrofit, or hype?
Moridin replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well' date=' 'never' is a strong word... As I mentioned before, there are situations where ABS can increase stopping distance - most notably on deformable surfaces (packed snow, gravel, etc). In this case the ABS prevents the formation of the wedge of crap that would normally build up in front of the tire, which would have added additional stopping force. Another instance would be on "Split mu" surfaces (i.e., right side of the car is on dry pavement, left side is on ice). Braking on such a surface will cause a [b']very[/b] significant pull towards the pavement side. The abs system will make a calculated tradeoff here to try to regain some amount of stability - namely by reducing the right-left imbalance by reducing the brake pressure to the pavement side. This will increase the stopping distance, but you have a much better chance of staying on the road and not spinning out. All modern ABS systems do this tradeoff to some extent, but the balance between stability and stopping distance will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer. However, in my experience dry or wet pavement is not one of the places where it is easy to out-brake an ABS system. Sorry, I had to use never, otherwise you guys wouldn't have responded what you did (I really like playing devil's advocate) It all depends on the car you are driving though. I've heard a lot cars are only two-channel ABS systems, where some are a true four-channel (each tire having its own sensor blah, blah, blah...) Anywho, it has been my understanding that a properly programmed 4-channel system will almost always outbrake a car without it, in most situations. I can see 2-channel systems having problems on split mu or dual frictional surfaces, but a 4 channel shouldn't have a problem (Then again, it all depends on how it was programmed). I'm not sure how it affects trail braking though. If it doesn't work properly under those situations, I could see why the car would have a hard time turning quicker lap times than a non-ABS vehicle. This is only a guess here, but I wonder what an E46 M3 would do. Run some laps with the ABS on, then pull the fuse (and hope nothing goes haywire) and see what happens then. A Supra would be another good car, as its ABS system is supposed to be superb (that's based on an interview I heard about with Mario Andretti driving the Supra). John, you have more funny stories than I keep track of. I could just imagine seeing a guy yelling "I have no brakes," and then rolling into a ditch. Too bad you don't have that on film (or do you?). -

You will never be able to out-brake an ABS equipped modern car with an equally non-ABS equipped vehicle. It's simple not possible, as the computer is far more precise and quick than any input from the driver. Now...if you change tire diameter and brakes, the ABS may not function properly. Maybe even to the point that longer stopping distances arise. Oh...That Brakemaster thing seems like a bunch of B.S. We should sue him for false advertisement and split the money between our Z's. -
Unfortunately she doesn't drive it like its supposed to be driven. That's up to my dad and I. We do want to sneak the Ken Belle blower in there when she's not looking, but that won't be until the warranty is up. We are aiming for 500HP on the stock blower. That includes all the mods listed above, along with a new throttle body, cat-back exhaust, ported intake plenum for the stock Eaton supercharger, Lighting lower pulley, and custom tuned chip. We're also concentrating on suspension too, but that can get a lot more pricey. Hopefully, I will have my Honda dyno sheets up soon that will rival those of the Cobra (except for the torque part), along with those of the turbo Z. Too many projects.
-
Sorry this isn't really Z related, but here's what a Honda can do with the right motor. That is if it was a Cobra motor in a Honda. Anywho, this was the dyno from my mom's 2003 Cobra. Only mods are a cold air intake (Densecharger), JBA shorty headers, and a performance chip flash from a Predator (as you can see it isn't even close to right yet. The a/f ratio is way off.). We are going to get the a/f taken care of with a custom tune and add a Magnaflow cat-back.

3 rotor Mazda rotary. They sound a lot like a Ferrari flat 12, only better Any flat crank Ferrari V8 is awesome. The GT40 motor was also unbelievable (Think it was a 351 with individual carbs?)

Great choice with the mods. I'm telling, I learned to drive in a 70HP Honda Civic Hatch. We've since lowered it with Eibachs, put Tokico blues on (if I would have known earlier, I would have gone with Illuminas or Konis), bigger front brakes, and 15" wheels w/ Kumho 712s (Handle well for the price, and are excellent in the rain). Having so little power allowed me to drive hard and still stay out of trouble. I wonder if a skidpad type situation would really help understand the limits of the car. Also a little discussion on suspenion theory and that simple inputs or small road irregularities can easily upset the chassis, and send the car spinning. Just a few suggestions from someone who is now going on two and a half years with their license.

Top-End Performance comments on company
Moridin replied to Nismo280zEd's topic in 6 Cylinder Z Forums
How did they screw you out of $43? That money went to the shipping company, Top End sure didn't get any of it. Are they charging you shipping to return the parts to you? It is his fault that all that stuff didn't fit properly and he had to send it back. The business should take care of that. Keep us updated. Hopefully it all works. If not, I have those Mikunis -

If it doesn't work out, get your money back, and buy my Mikuni's -
When I get done paying off my motor swap for my Honda, I'll get all the stuff squared away for my turbo L28 swap into my 240Z. I'm also in Pleasant Hill. Oh...I talked to Darius a month or two ago, and supposedly the flares are coming along. Should be on the road again soon, if not already.
