PBR Calipers and large rotors...
Moridin replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Dang Ross, you're a very dedicated vendor and engineer. I guess I should have been a little more detailed in my response and not just mention rotor mass (I've been doing more and more research in the brake design department). I really do appreciate the detailed response. It will really help when it comes time to make my brake decision. I just need to make sure I don't get into that ego thing (Look, I got 6 piston AP Racing brakes on my car although saying 13" rotors is fun too). You will definitely be getting a call from me in a few months (if I have the money), about braking and suspension systems for my car. -
PBR Calipers and large rotors...
Moridin replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I have the Dynalites for my Civic and they are very lightweight. Compared to the bigger EX calipers, there must have been an 8 lb. difference. Amazing. Ross: I thought the rotor in question was a stock C5 piece and not a GT. Maybe I need to read it again. I'm more worried about the PBRs and there fade resistance on the track. I'm going to to want to open track my Z, and I'm not sure the PBRs will keep going when I'm continually hauling the car down from 100+ MPH on the main straight at Laguna. Maybe I need to look into the Porsche 996TT calipers with ceramic rotors, but I'd rather do an Alcon or AP Racing setup on a rotor that will fit under 16" wheel. I am interested in the PBR setup you have, but am wondering if they've been track proven. I know the 13" rotors are a huge help, because of the added mass. Mike, are you going to open track the Vette at all? I want to know how that thing does under a little obuse. -
You have any more info on the story? I would assume that the kid was unhurt, but that was a hell of a blast. Maybe the force of his hand kept the side it was touching intact, while the side of the 2 liter bottle blew out (weak plastic).

I knew I was a little off with what I said. I couldn't find the SCC tech article, so I wasn't quite sure.

I want to second what was said. Everyone on here has been extremely cordial and helpful with everything Z, along with much more (including some other vehicles ). I joined this site when I was 16 thinking I may find a little info about doing some minor things to a future Z. I've learned much, much more than I ever thought I would, and I'm only 19. On another note, with my parent's recent purchase and my propensity to modify any car I own (the Honda), I've ventured onto other forums. None of them, absolutely none, uphold the respect and understanding that each and every person receives (and gives) here. I go over to places like a svtperformance.com, honda-tech.com, and its a bunch of people acting like children. I've never heard so many 40 year old men b**** and whine about things until I ventured out from Hybridz. It just makes me appreciate what is available here so much more. This place is freakin' awesome. Oh...and don't forget people like GrumpyVette and RacerX. Grumpy has forgot more about engine building then I will ever know. Please grumpy, find someone that can build a dynamic website with all your links. Sell access or a CD to pay for your time, because the info you have is simply mind blowing. RacerX is on every single paint post. When it comes time to paint my car, I'll know what is involved. I may even get a few dates, because of the gorgeous finished product Pete P. is another that comes to mind. Just your write up on the subframe and floor pans is worth a ton of money. To all the others on this board that contribute so much that have not been mentioned yet, thank you all so much. Maybe someday I will be able to contribute to hobbyists like myself the way all of you have. You all rock

I'd take the Ford GT over that any day.

Sport Compact Car pulled a little over 224 (I don't think it was 240) to the front wheels when they first dyno'ed one. Of course, that was with 93 octane, so the knock sensor wasn't at work. The SRT-4's can be make some pretty damn good power with just basic mods. I believe to motor is a Mitsubishi with a Dodge head (May be the opposite). Oh...and the new models have a LSD that really lets the cars get some much needed traction.

ZXT in WOT in 2nd sounds like starship Enterprise
Moridin replied to a topic in Turbo / Supercharger
That would be your blow off valve. Detonation, pinging, etc... does not sound like a woooosh at all. Not to be an a**, but when you install parts (or have them installed) you should make sure how they are supposed to function. That way you will know if they are operating properly or not. Have fun with it. Sounds like nothing is wrong at all. -
PBR Calipers and large rotors...
Moridin replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
There definitely is such a thing. Ross' website actually has them on there if you look closely. Most brake upgrades offer a 4 lug or 5 lug rotor hat, especially with two piece rotors. Biggest benefit, by far, is the wheel choice. It's much easier to get a 5 lug wheel than it is a 4 lug. Another may be strength (force is spread out over 5 studs, instead of 4), but I'm not sure how important that is unless you're running some major power. Then again, ARP studs are very, very strong from what I hear. Maybe someone (Ross?) can chime in here. -
What Do You Think Of Supra & The Owner-CONTENT WARNING
Moridin replied to slownrusty's topic in Non Tech Board
At least she has good taste in cars. -
I've got another conversion, kind of boring though
Moridin replied to mobythevan's topic in Non Tech Board
STAY DIESEL!!! Really, stay diesel if you can. Simple boost and exhaust upgrades net some huge gains. Add a little propane injection and I'm sure you would be seeing close to 500lb ft of torque. Or...you could always look into swapping a newer motor from one of the newer trucks. You'd have to update to OBD2, but I'm sure a diesel F350 front clip is not in high demand. If you want to see what Stacey on "Trucks! TV" does to diesels, goto http://www.powerblocktv.com The power potential is amazing. I also have a vid of a lifted F350 diesel with huge off-road type tires running 11.42 down the 1/4 mile -
How to install Z32 taillights in a S30 (a pictorial)
Moridin replied to Dan Juday's topic in Body Kits & Paint
Dan, it looks really, really good. I'm jealous. Sounds like we need to get a caravan of some sort down to MSA. I'll be at Rio Vista too. Oh, and there is the ZGROUP convention by Nissan being held in LA on the 15th and 16th. Lots of good shows this year. -
Are you ready for the LS2 Hybrid?
Moridin replied to Sumo's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
The LS2 is the base motor in the new Vette, so it is actually up 50HP and close to as much torque from the C5. Can't wait for the new ZO6 and "Blue Devil" Vettes from GM. -
The GT is a bada** car. It is a Ferrari beater, and with bolt ons, it will go heads up with the far more expensive Enzo (Courtesy of the twin screw blower). As for the Mustang, I do agree it looks chunky. It fits how much it weighs though. Have you guys seen the lastest Cobra? I think SVT did a number with the for the styling on the Cobra with just a few different body pieces. Here's a pic: Sorry for the big pic. I couldn't find anything smaller
-
Yeah, but there is a difference between taking care of a car when working on it and unforseen damages caused buy outside forces. That guy can simply show a little respect for the vehicle he's working on. When I work on other people's cars, I always take the time to make sure I don't run greasy hands all over a person's car, or misalign a hood and chip the crap out of the paint.

PBR Calipers and large rotors...
Moridin replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Thanks for the tip Mike. I also know the Cobra is probably close to 400 lbs heavier than your wife's GT, and another 800lbs heavier than my Z. There was a big debate on corner-carvers.com with a bunch of info on PBR, Brembo, Porsche, AP Racing, and many more calipers and how well they performed for people at the track. We need to get a list going of brake mods done to Z's - and other cars, because so many systems have been adapted to the Z cars - and see how they perform. Here's a piece about the C5 braking system: http://forums.corner-carvers.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=13299 For all the calipers I know, the food chain for what is better goes somewhat like this: PBR > Wilwood > Brembo > Stoptech > Alcon > AP Racing Here's the link with some of the info that I got on Corner-carvers: http://corner-carvers.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=11646&highlight=Brakes+Wilwood I may be we off with that statement, but I just trying to recall what I've read here and there. Then again, we are talking about tracking a car when it comes to those brakes, otherwise the list would change for street use (because it isn't just about all out stopping power and fade resistance). Sorry to hijack your thread Mike, but I had these links hanging around and have been looking for a place to post them -
I know where you're coming from Mike. I spent last night working on my car like I said earlier and got something in my eye. Well, it hurt like hell this morning and I ended up in the hospital to see what was up. I managed to scratch my eye with a metal shaving from cutting the aluminum for the intercooler mounts. I'm not supposed to go to work either, so now I'm out of time and a half for pay and a few hours tomorrow. Well...here's to a good 2004 and two turbo cars soon to be up and running.

PBR Calipers and large rotors...
Moridin replied to Mikelly's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
The PBR's work well on the Cobra for around town, but as soon as you start to get on them repeatedly, they start to fade pretty bad (The Cobra is 3600lbs without me in it though). I think Ross's setup utilizes PBR's slimline caliper to fit a 13" rotor in 16" wheel. -
A cat should help quite a bit actually from what it sounds like. You will sacrifice little to no performance (maybe a few HP at most) by using a good aftermarket high flow piece. My friend has a turbo Volvo, and with the test pipe in (instead of the cat), the thing stinks. He doesn't smell it inside, because the car is aerodynamicly different then the Z. With the cat in, I can barely smell anything when I'm behind him, and its quieter too. EDIT: Oh...and the tune may also affect something. Too rich and you have too many carbon type emissions. Too lean and your NOx levels go through the roof. I believe a cat will clean up the rich end. Not sure about NOx levels.

He's still around. His website is http://www.darius240z.com. As you can see on his site, his new bike video just debuted, so he's probably been really busy with that lately. There are also some pics of his widebody install which is still in progress. I'm guessing now that he can't do any bike stunt stuff, because it's winter and the video has been finished, that he will get the Z up and running again. Just a guess though.

Happy new year guys. I spent mine in the best way possible, slaving over one of my cars As sorry as that is, at least my electronic fuel pressure sening unit is wired and ready to be hooked up. My intercooler and downpipe are also in and ready to go. I'm that much closer to finishing my Honda, so I can get workin' on the Z Sorry for the rambling, but happy new years

Ask for your money back to cover all damages incurred to your Z. When the guy - your friend - chuckles again, tell him that its not a laughing matter. He is getting paid to do the work and no matter how little, no damages should be done to the vehicle. Also tell him that if the detail and cleaning are not paid for, you will take him to small claims court to cover the cost. That should let both of them know that you are serious. Don't take any s*** from anyone and you will be much happier with yourself. I'm finding that one out the hard way.
